Home Medical Devices in Türkiye: Reports, Supply and SGK Before Buying​

Do not buy a medical device on an informal promise of reimbursement. Establish the clinical specification and funding route first. Some SGK devices are supplied subject to return rather than through an ordinary retail purchase.

⁦⁩ Start with the clinical specification​

Ask the clinician to specify the device, need, technical requirements, accessories and required report and prescription. A sales recommendation does not replace a prescription, and treatment settings should not be changed without clinical guidance. Prepare identity and active-cover details and check documents before purchase.

⁦⁩ Establish the supply route​

SGK describes different contracted routes for prescribed supplies, hearing aids and prosthetic or orthotic products. For devices it takes back, an application with a medical-board report starts with the relevant provincial directorate. Stock may be supplied; if unavailable, purchase and payment follow SGK rules and document requirements. Confirm the route for the particular case before paying.

⁦⁩ Check the product and supplier​

The Ministry of Health's ÜTS provides product and company searches. Compare the device, invoice and packaging with the actual model and barcode. Registration alone does not establish clinical suitability, insurance cover or that the delivered item matches. Request warranty terms, instructions, appropriate training and maintenance arrangements.

⁦⁩ Obtain the clinician's report, prescription and specifications.

⁦⁩ Confirm entitlement, responsible unit and funding route with SGK or the insurer.

⁦⁩ Ask whether stock checks or approval are needed before purchase.

⁦⁩ Match product and supplier details, quote and accessories.

⁦⁩ Keep the invoice, barcode and handover and training records.

⁦⁩ Obtain written maintenance, fault, return and renewal arrangements.

⁦⁩ Plan maintenance and renewal​

Ask who handles repairs, temporary replacements and consumables, and who pays. SGK links renewal to SUT periods and conditions; exceptions may require a medical-board report. A fault does not guarantee immediate funding for a new purchase. For essential equipment, obtain a patient-specific power-cut or failure plan from the clinical team.
