📬 A UETS account is an important part of preparing a residence permit extension or transfer application in Türkiye. It gives you an official electronic address for receiving notifications and allows you to include proof of your account details in your file. Setting up the account does not mean that your residence permit will be approved: it provides an official communication channel, while the application is assessed against the requirements and documents for the permit concerned.

1️⃣ 🗓️ When did the requirement begin, and who does it cover?

The Presidency of Migration Management announced the procedure on 1 April 2024. Documents showing UETS account information have been required in residence permit extension and transfer application files since 15 April 2024. It should therefore not be presented as a new launch in 2026. Keep the notification account separate in your mind from the residence permit application you create in e-İkamet.

Do not extend this announcement to assume that every first-time residence permit application automatically falls under the same requirement. Follow the document checklist for your application and any instructions issued by the migration directorate for your circumstances. When you are changing your residence purpose, a transfer means the application category selected in the system, rather than simply changing your telephone number or home address.

2️⃣ 🧾 Prepare before visiting PTT

The announcement lists the following documents and details for foreign nationals: a passport, Foreigner ID Number, mobile telephone number and valid email address. It also requires completion of the UETS application form and liability document available in the applicant's language. Gather these items before your visit, and check that the spelling of your name and your identity number match your residence documents to reduce the likelihood of corrections later.

Use an email address you manage yourself and a telephone number on which you can receive messages. An address that is technically valid is of little practical use if you do not know its password or never open it. Store your login details securely and avoid relying on an intermediary's or friend's email account, particularly if that person may leave Türkiye or change their telephone number.

3️⃣ 🏤 Open the account and obtain its details

The instructions explain that foreign nationals can obtain a UETS address from PTT branches after providing the necessary details and completing the forms. Tell the member of staff that you need a National Electronic Notification System address, rather than an ordinary email account. Once the procedure is completed, ask how to access the account and check that the account document belongs to you.

Do not rely on a general screenshot of the login page or a message showing that you visited the branch. Your residence file needs a document that shows your account information. Keep a clear copy and organize it with your application papers. If you are unsure about the document's name or how to obtain it, ask PTT before leaving so you do not discover the missing item when assembling your application file.

4️⃣ 🔐 Can the account be opened online?

The migration announcement states that foreign nationals who have an electronic signature can apply for UETS online. Do not assume that an e-Devlet password alone satisfies the account-opening condition described in that announcement: creating an account and signing in to an existing account are different steps.

You can start by reading the information on the official UETS portal and using the forms it provides where necessary. If you do not have the required means of verification, or do not know whether an account already exists in your name, ask PTT before starting another application or paying a private office. What matters is that you can actually access your account, rather than merely receiving a promise that someone has opened it for you.

5️⃣ 📁 Include the document in your residence file

Once you have obtained your account details, place the document in the file you will submit in accordance with your appointment instructions. Run through a simple review: is the name correct, does the Foreigner ID Number match the application, are the UETS details legible, and have you kept a copy? This is an organizational check; it does not change the requirements for insurance, accommodation or supporting documents linked to your permit category.

Account accessThe account holder knows how to sign in

6️⃣ 👨‍👩‍👧 Children and family members

For foreign nationals under 18, the announcement states that residence permit assessment results will be sent through their parents' or guardians' UETS addresses, and that children are not required to declare a UETS address of their own. When preparing family files, establish who will monitor the account and check whether that person's details match the parent or guardian information in the file.

Do not infer from the rule for children that all adult family members can use a single account without checking. Organize each applicant's papers separately and clarify the requirement applying to that applicant. It is also sensible for both parents to know where messages concerning their children are stored and who will follow up on any request for additional documents.

7️⃣ 📬 Keep the account accessible after applying

The purpose of UETS does not end when you print the account document. Make checking incoming messages part of following your application, and review your contact details if your telephone number or email address changes. Creating an account, or having no message in it, is not an approval or refusal result; read the official message itself if a notification arrives.

If someone helps you understand a message, share the necessary content while protecting your personal information, rather than handing over your account password. If you forget how to sign in, resolve the problem through PTT's official channels early. Reading notifications is a separate subject from account creation, because a message may contain an action or a deadline that needs careful interpretation.

8️⃣ ❓ Frequently asked questions

Is UETS the email address I enter in my residence application?
No. Email is a contact channel, while UETS is an official electronic notification address and account. Make sure the document you include proves the required account details, rather than simply listing your email address.

Does having the account guarantee approval of my extension?
No. The account supports notification and file preparation. It does not replace residence permit requirements or change the assessment of your residence purpose and supporting documents.

Does my child need a separate account?
The announcement explains that those under 18 are not required to declare an address of their own and that notifications are sent through their parents' or guardians' addresses. Check how the parent or guardian's details are recorded when preparing the child's file.
