Tunceli lies in Eastern Anatolia, surrounded by mountains and river valleys. Its extensive natural landscapes and relatively quiet rural districts make it an appealing destination for exploration and outdoor travel.
The Munzur Valley is the province's best-known natural attraction. Munzur Valley National Park protects a large mountain and river landscape with springs, waterfalls and highland lakes. Caves and upland areas add further possibilities for walkers and experienced mountain visitors.
The province supports wildlife including bears, wild goats and birds of prey. Animals should be observed from a distance, without disturbance. Regional food, music and community celebrations express a distinctive Anatolian cultural heritage, with village life closely connected to the landscape.
- June to September is generally a practical period for valley and upland visits, with conditions varying by elevation and weather.
- Enjoy riverside walks and visits to the Munzur springs. Do not assume that the springs are swimming areas: respect local cultural significance, protected-area rules and any restrictions, and use only authorised places suitable for swimming.
- Try the local cheese and mountain honey for which the area is known.
