Home EV Chargers in Türkiye: Parking Rights, Electrical Assessment and Installation
Before buying a wall charger, establish your right to use the parking space, the route for its cable and whether the electrical supply can support it. Permission to park, permission for physical work and electrical approval answer different questions. Coordinate these before paying for equipment.
Selected official guidance reviewed on 26 October 2026. This guide concerns a home or residential-complex installation; the checklist is practical preparation, not a design specification. Electrical work belongs with qualified professionals.
Define the parking and charging arrangement
Locate the title or allocation record, management plan and parking arrangement. A numbered bay is not sufficient evidence that the space legally forms part of your independent unit. Tell management whether you propose a personal charger, a shared residents’ facility or a service operated commercially. Give the intended bay and cable route rather than asking only “Are chargers allowed?”.
EPDK’s FAQ distinguishes non-commercial charging solely for one’s own needs, which needs no charging licence or certificate. This does not waive property or electrical requirements. If the proposal involves charging other users commercially, obtain advice on the applicable operator arrangement before treating it as a personal installation.
| Arrangement | First check | Record to keep |
|---|---|---|
| Personal installation | Legal status of the bay and route | Owner/management correspondence and technical proposal |
| Shared residents’ installation | Competent decision and use arrangements | Decision, cost allocation and access rules |
| Commercial service | Applicable charging-service and operator requirements | Operator proposal and regulatory confirmation |
Match consent to the actual work
EPDK describes a conditional exception for parking legally accessory to an independent unit: no existing-wiring change and no effect on other units or common areas. Do not extend it to every allocated bay or new cable route.
The Ministry’s official summary of its 23 July 2024 opinion records an owners’ majority route for parking chargers. For the described removable units involving no construction in shared parking, EPDK specifies majority by both owner number and land share for the described common-benefit installation. This is not a universal quorum for every construction project.
Give management the proposed physical works and ask which decision and authorisations apply. Obtain the written decision where required, with the space, route and responsibilities identified. If you rent, involve the owner and document their agreement to the proposed work. Resolve disputed authority before installation; a supplier’s sales assurance does not settle the property question.
Commission an electrical assessment first
EPDK distinguishes a separate electricity subscription from installation within existing wiring; technical alterations follow the relevant electrical rules. Ask the qualified designer/installer to identify the distribution-company and authority procedures for your proposal. A personal charging-licence exception does not mean electrical work can begin unchecked.
Ask for an assessment of available capacity, the supply and panel, earthing and protective measures, the cable route, environmental conditions and other loads. These are questions for a professional, not instructions for choosing cable sizes or breakers yourself. Ask whether more than one future charger changes the design and whether load management is appropriate. Do not bypass protective devices or have an unqualified person improvise an outlet.
Compare a complete installation quote
Tesla’s home-charging guidance recommends a specialist installer, a quotation and a joint test after installation. It identifies potential extras such as long cable runs, panel work, trenching and power management. These illustrate items to check; its product and service descriptions are not a universal Turkish tariff or permit exemption.
Request an itemised price for equipment, design, applications, electrical work, routing, reinstatement, testing and taxes. Establish who owns each item and who handles maintenance or a warranty claim. Confirm compatibility with your car and the actual available supply rather than purchasing the highest headline power. Ask for the total with excluded work clearly identified before paying a deposit.
Complete six documented steps
Keep the quotation, decisions, correspondence, invoice, equipment serial number and warranty together. Ask the installer to explain the safe shutdown and fault procedure for the installed model. If something is incomplete, record it against the accepted scope rather than signing an unexplained final acceptance.
Agree use and payment before the first session
For shared arrangements, record who can charge, how sessions are identified, how energy and other agreed costs are recorded, and who can see the records. Ask how the building supply and the user’s payment are distinguished. Do not simply add a guessed amount to every resident’s Aidat or treat a private calculation as an approved commercial charging tariff.
Agree rules for reserving the bay, releasing it after charging and reporting damage. Route cables so the installation does not obstruct access; have the installer assess the proposed arrangement. Avoid improvised extension leads or adapters outside the manufacturer’s instructions. A damaged connector, repeated protective trips or unusual heating needs professional investigation before further use. Agree ownership, removal and reinstatement before a tenant leaves.
Common questions
Does buying an electric car give me a private charging bay?
Do not infer parking rights from vehicle ownership. Check the legal parking arrangement and any required building decision.
Does “no charging licence” mean no permission at all?
No. The personal non-commercial distinction does not remove property, electrical or authority requirements applicable to the installation.
Is every installation approved by a simple headcount?
No. Match the legal status of the space and work to the applicable decision; where the described shared-parking route applies, land shares matter too.
Will a more powerful charger always charge faster?
Check the car, supply and selected equipment with the installer. The device label alone does not establish the power your installation can deliver.
Is nighttime electricity always cheaper?
Check your actual electricity contract and tariff. Do not assume that scheduling at night automatically reduces your bill.
