Slow or Unreliable Home Internet in Türkiye: Evidence, Fault Reports and Complaints
When an existing home connection becomes slow or repeatedly drops, a useful complaint separates the incoming service from the wireless network inside the flat. Record what failed, when it happened and what the provider has done. A single screenshot rarely explains the whole problem.
This guide concerns restoring an existing service at the same address. Check your package and contract alongside the measurements; an advertised maximum is not automatically a minimum speed guaranteed to every device.
Identify what actually fails
Check whether every device and website is affected, whether a wired connection works and whether the modem shows loss of its line or internet connection. Note the light labels and time; their meanings vary by model. If only one room or device is affected, indoor Wi-Fi or that device needs attention before concluding that the provider’s line has failed.
A power outage and an internet-line fault are different events. Use the provider’s official fault checker or support account to ask whether there is an area outage. Keep its notice and estimated restoration time, then record any update. Do not open a shared cabinet, disturb fibre connectors or pay for building work before the fault location and responsibility are established.
Build a repeatable measurement record
Türk Telekom’s speed-test guidance explains that equipment, connection type and background traffic affect results. Use one capable computer connected directly to the router by Ethernet, with its Wi-Fi disabled for the comparison. Check that the computer, router port and cable can support the package speed. Pause downloads, cloud backups and streaming; record whether a VPN was active.
Repeat under similar conditions at different times, including when the problem occurs. Keep the date, time, wired/Wi-Fi method, test server, download and upload results, latency and any failed test. Compare a Wi-Fi test near the router and in the problem room separately. These records help diagnosis; they are not automatically the regulator’s prescribed measurement procedure.
| Observation | Useful next check | Record for support |
|---|---|---|
| Wired works; distant room is slow | Router placement, interference and indoor coverage | Room, device and wired comparison |
| Wired and Wi-Fi are both poor | Line status, area fault and provider diagnostics | Repeated controlled tests and modem status |
| Connection repeatedly disappears | Whether all devices lose access at the same time | Start/end times, lights and ticket reference |
| Only one application fails | Other sites/devices and that application’s status | Affected service and comparison result |
Open one traceable fault case
TurkNet’s connection-support guidance describes using its Online İşlemler or mobile app for connection testing and a support record. Other providers have their own official channels. Ask for a fault reference, recorded opening time, diagnosis, action and next update. Keep follow-ups attached to that reference rather than losing the chronology across unrelated conversations.
Ask for a remedy that matches the evidence
State the outcome you seek: restoration, a technician, examination of repeated disconnections, correction of a package mismatch, or review of charges for the documented unavailable period. Ask the provider to explain its technical finding and contractual basis in writing. Before agreeing to chargeable work, obtain the scope, price and responsibility for equipment or internal wiring.
Example: “Service … at … has dropped on the attached dates. Ticket … was opened on … . The attached wired tests and outage log show … . Please restore service, explain the fault and review the charge for the documented affected period. Please provide your decision in writing.” Use your own dates and facts.
A requested credit is not a guaranteed award. Do not assume a universal daily compensation amount, automatic waiver of every bill or automatic penalty-free cancellation after one slow test. The electronic-communications consumer regulation contains conditional rules; address-speed termination depends on BTK measurement criteria. Obtain the applicable assessment and itemised settlement before acting on a cancellation promise.
Escalate an unresolved complaint
If the provider does not resolve the documented issue, use BTK’s Consumer Complaint Notification System on e-Devlet. The public page requires authentication and lists an e-Devlet password among available methods. Sign in personally through a method available to you; never share passwords or verification codes. A public landing page is not proof of a submitted complaint.
Prepare a short chronology, service and ticket numbers, contract, relevant bill, selected measurements, outage log and provider replies. State the unresolved issue and requested remedy, then follow the actual form and retain the submission reference. Check the case for replies and any displayed follow-up period. A regulatory complaint does not itself guarantee a monetary award.
If a payment dispute remains, identify the appropriate consumer-dispute route for its nature and value. Do not treat the support exchange as automatically suspending a payment obligation or enforcement deadline. Keep personal identity and account details out of public forum screenshots.
Confirm the repair before closing your file
Test again under the original conditions and check at the times when failure was common. Record the repair date, changed equipment and whether the same symptom returns. If the case is marked resolved while the fault persists, reply promptly under the original reference with the new evidence.
Retain the provider’s explanation, closure message, technician record and decision on any requested credit. Check the next bill against that decision. For work or study, consider a temporary backup after checking coverage, data limits and total cost; record the expense without assuming that the provider must reimburse it.
Practical questions
Is a faster package the first solution?
Only after the fault and household demand are understood. An upgrade may not fix poor room coverage or a damaged line; confirm whether it starts a new commitment.
Should I factory-reset the modem?
Avoid a factory reset unless you have the provider’s instructions and necessary settings. A restart and a factory reset have different consequences.
Does a neighbour’s result prove my entitlement?
It is context, not a measurement of your own subscription, equipment or line. Keep evidence from your service.
May I stop paying while the ticket is open?
Do not assume the ticket suspends payment. Ask for the treatment of disputed charges in writing and use the appropriate dispute route.
Can I cancel without a charge because Wi-Fi is slow?
Do not assume this. Establish the fault and applicable contractual or regulatory conditions, including any prescribed measurement criteria.
