📍 Location and introduction
Hakkâri lies in Türkiye's far south-east, in a high mountain province bordering Iraq and Iran. Its rugged terrain and dramatic scenery appeal to adventurous travellers and those who enjoy remote natural landscapes.

🏞️ Mountains and natural landmarks
Towering peaks and rocky ranges surround the city, with snow lingering for much of the year on the highest ground. The Sat Mountains and Cilo Mountains are particularly striking settings for mountaineering and photography. The high glacial lakes known collectively as Sat Gölleri lie among these mountain landscapes, with some around or above 3,000 metres.

🧭 Culture and local life
Hakkâri's communities maintain strong local customs and a generally traditional way of life. Local celebrations associated with spring and nature form part of its cultural calendar. Handwoven carpets, kilims and traditional embroidery express the region's distinctive craft heritage.

💡 Planning and exploring
  • June to September is generally the most practical period for mountain visits as snow retreats, although snow cover, roads and local access arrangements still vary.
  • Walking in the Sat and Cilo Mountains requires appropriate experience, preparation and local advice. Confirm current permissions and route conditions before setting out.
  • Visits to small mountain villages offer an opportunity to discover local honey and rural cooking, with respect for residents and their routines.
