Sakarya’s transport planning now includes an urban railway through Adapazarı and Serdivan alongside buses and private cars. On 8 October 2026, the municipality announced that site preparation had begun for the Adapazarı–Serdivan tram alignment after the tender. The initial step involved relocating 178 magnolia trees from the median on Medeniyet Avenue in Serdivan for replanting in suitable locations. These are preparatory works; passenger services have not been announced.

The current project
On 31 July 2026, the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure described:- 15.2 km of urban rail.
- 19 stations.
- Connections between central Adapazarı, Serdivan, the university and densely populated areas.
- A tender held, with evaluation and finalisation continuing at that time; site preparation was subsequently announced in October.

Where is the route planned?
The municipality’s announced alignment starts near the new Sakarya Atatürk Stadium, follows 15 Temmuz Avenue, Yeni Cami, Democracy Square, Kudüs Avenue, Orta Gar, Çark Avenue and Muhsin Yazıcıoğlu Avenue, and reaches the Tunatan junction. Two branches are described:
- Via Medeniyet Avenue to Sakarya University’s campus.
- Via 2. Cadde, Sapak Mosque and Mehmet Akif Ersoy Avenue to Serdivan Sports Hall and Yazlık junction.

The tram project is distinct from ADARAY
- ADARAY: An existing suburban train service on the regional railway.
- Metrobüs: High-capacity buses on a rapid-transit corridor.
- The new line: An urban rail system within Adapazarı and Serdivan.
| Mode | Status and use |
|---|---|
| ADARAY | Existing suburban trains; check stations and timetable |
| Metrobüs | Existing bus service; check direction and transfer points |
| Adapazarı–Serdivan tram | Preparatory works have begun; do not use it to plan a journey today |
| Local buses | Complete the journey according to current routes and diversions |

Potential effects within the city
If delivered as planned, the line could:- Reduce car dependence between the university and centre.
- Improve access to Democracy Square, markets and the stadium.
- Increase demand near stations, with effects varying by location.
- Change parking provision and bus routes.
- Support commerce around interchanges.
- Encourage student housing along the university corridor.

When could passenger services begin?
Some local transport documents identify 2027 as a target. This remains a timetable objective, not a guaranteed opening date. The project has moved from the procurement stage described in August to the site preparation announced in October, but the latest announcement does not give a binding start date for passenger services. Construction, track, power and signalling work, testing and safety certification must precede service.Do not base a property or business decision solely on an unconfirmed opening date. Check the final alignment, exact station entrances and surrounding traffic arrangements.
| Stage | What is established and what it means |
|---|---|
| Tender | Held; this does not open the railway |
| Site preparation announced on 8 October 2026 | Tree relocation began on Medeniyet Avenue ahead of the project |
| Construction, systems and testing | Required before service; site preparation does not establish completion |
| Passenger service | Requires an operating announcement, timetable and fares from the operator |

Conclusion
Adapazarı–Serdivan could provide more dependable connections between the university, centre and stadium. The accurate 2026 description is a project with site preparation under way, with passenger services still to come. Its eventual value will depend on integration with ADARAY, Metrobüs, buses, walking and cycling.- Lake Sapanca 2026: Water, Waterfront & Tourism Pressure
