Store and Digital Subscriptions in Türkiye: Renewal, Payment and Cancellation
A digital service or recurring product box can begin with a periodic price even when checkout looks like a one-off purchase. Identify the seller, period, renewal date and cancellation route before paying; keep confirmation and review later transactions.
Distinguish a one-off purchase from a subscription
A subscription provides goods or services continuously or at intervals, such as digital content or periodic deliveries. Check the offer for the number of shipments, billing frequency, duration and whether it renews automatically or requires action.
For a fixed-term consumer subscription covered by Turkish rules, an extension requires the consumer’s request or approval before the term ends. If goods or services continue afterward without it, the consumer cannot be charged for them. First check the contract type and applicable rules.
Keep the contracting company’s name, order number, offer and terms. If an intermediary platform or app store collects payment, ask who manages the subscription and receives cancellation requests.
Before confirming payment
| Check | Practical question | Keep |
|---|---|---|
| Period and price | Is it an introductory price and what follows? | Offer copy and start date |
| Renewal | When is the next charge and does service continue? | Renewal date and confirmation |
| Cancellation | How is termination requested and when effective? | Request steps and acknowledgement |
| Delivery or access | When is the shipment or service provided? | Service details and invoice |
Opting out of marketing messages and terminating a paid subscription are separate processes.
How to request cancellation
Identify the account and seller, then use the cancellation channel or send a written request identifying the subscription. Save the date, case number and account status; ask for acknowledgement, the effective end date and the treatment of any outstanding amount.
For consumer subscriptions covered by Türkiye’s general rules, termination conditions must not be more burdensome than the way the contract was made: an online subscriber cannot be required to visit a branch or notary merely to cancel. The seller or provider must implement the termination within at most seven days after receiving the request; if delayed, the consumer cannot be charged for the period after that deadline even if use continues.
Within 15 days from termination, the provider must return the prepaid portion attributable to services not provided or goods not delivered, and any security payment under the applicable rules. An early termination charge calculated according to the rules may be offset for a commitment-based subscription. Some sectors have special rules; do not automatically apply these deadlines to a commercial subscription or foreign provider. Check the applicable law and authority for your case.
A cancellation request and a card charge
Deleting the app or removing a card does not by itself prove the contract has ended. After requesting termination, check the confirmation, effective date and any shipment or period already paid, then inspect the card statement after the next expected date.
If a charge is unclear, compare its date, service period and beneficiary with your confirmation. Ask the company for a written explanation; then ask the issuing bank about the status and dispute route if a posted charge is contested. Report an unrecognised transaction to the bank immediately.
If the company does not respond
Send a clear request with the subscription and case numbers, dates and receipt; do not disclose the full card number or verification code. Keep responses, amounts and dates.
A consumer arbitration committee or court may be available depending on jurisdiction, dispute type, value and current rules; some services have a sector-specific authority. Do not assume every period is automatically refundable or that all contracts carry identical charges.

Frequently asked questions
Does deleting an app end the subscription?
Not necessarily. Use the termination channel and keep confirmation.
Does opting out of marketing stop payment?
Do not assume so; check the paid subscription separately.
Does a cancellation request erase a previous charge?
Not necessarily. Check the service period, request, refund terms and applicable rules.
Must I visit a branch to cancel a subscription made online?
General rules prohibit termination conditions more burdensome than contracting; check your specific service and sector rules.
What if I do not recognise a charge?
Contact the bank immediately through its official channel and review subscriptions with the relevant provider.
