Private School Transport in Türkiye: Contracts, Charges and Child Safety

Before arranging school transport, establish the responsible provider, route, charges and how your child will board and be collected. Municipal tariffs, distances and contract terms differ; obtain written details before paying.

⁦1️⃣⁩ Check the provider and route

Ask the school which carrier is approved, which vehicle serves the route and who handles enquiries. If you want another carrier, check the applicable procedure and authorisations with the school and responsible authorities before transport begins.

Confirm pickup and drop-off points, approximate times, delay arrangements and a contact. Agree who may collect your child and how the family will be notified of a vehicle or route change.

Compare the vehicle plate and operator with the permit or record confirmed by the responsible authority. Ask about vehicle capacity and the number of pupils without collecting classmates’ personal data. A logo alone does not prove route authorisation. If the vehicle or driver changes, ask the school or provider to verify the replacement and update the contact number.

⁦2️⃣⁩ Read the price and agreement

ItemWhat to askWhat to keep
TariffPrice by distance and service and the local tariffWritten quotation and route details
PaymentInstalments, receipt and included servicesAgreement and proof of payment
Change or cancellationNotice, charges and applicable periodWritten terms and correspondence

The rules require compliance with the municipal tariff where applicable; there is no single national fee. Compare the quotation with the current local tariff and actual route, and ask for any additional item to be explained before committing.

Check whether the quote covers a month or term and a return trip or one direction, and how holidays, interruption and cancellation affect payment under the contract. Ask which route distance was used, how it was measured and whether extras are included. Keep the local tariff applicable when you agreed.

Illustrative example: a carrier quotes a return journey. The family requests the measured distance, applicable tariff and included service in writing, then compares them with the agreement before paying. If figures differ, request a written explanation. This example sets no mandatory price or complaint outcome.

⁦3️⃣⁩ Safety and accompanying staff

Ask about seatbelts, how boarding and alighting are supervised and how staff check that no child remains in the vehicle. Discuss age, mobility and communication needs before the service starts.

Requirements for accompanying staff differ with the group transported. Do not assume the same arrangement applies to every vehicle and school stage; ask the school and carrier to confirm the applicable arrangement and responsibilities.

Agree what happens if the child is absent one morning, the vehicle breaks down or is delayed, or an unauthorised person arrives to collect the child. Obtain primary and backup contacts and the notification arrangements. Make sure the child knows not to leave with an unapproved person. Communication plans do not replace applicable safety requirements.

⁦4️⃣⁩ Respond to a problem

For repeated delays or a charge dispute, record dates, times, route, agreement and tariff. Contact the carrier and school in writing and request a specific response. If unresolved, ask the municipality, education directorate or consumer protection authority which channel fits the issue.

For immediate danger, call 112 and follow official instructions. Do not publish children’s personal details or photographs in public groups when making a complaint.

For a complaint, separate a safety or permit issue from a price dispute. Keep the date, carrier, vehicle plate, route, agreement and receipts, and ask the school to record the report. Ask the municipality about tariffs and transport authorisations, the education directorate about school follow-up, and the consumer authority about a contractual dispute where applicable. One body does not necessarily resolve every issue.
