An education journey may begin with a nearby preschool, a missing university-application document or uncertainty about two master’s routes. This index organises those questions into clear paths without requiring you to read the whole section. Families can find school guides, applicants organise submissions, enrolled students review courses and services, and prospective researchers plan before committing to a long programme.
Find the guide addressing your current step, then identify what follows. Choosing a programme, obtaining admission, enrolling, having a qualification assessed and obtaining professional recognition are not one process. School registration also involves more than identifying a grade: understand the child’s academic status, enrolment route and learning plan. Follow the appropriate path and keep a short list of unresolved questions for the responsible office.
For developments during the year, see Education in Türkiye 2026: January to October, up to its stated monitoring date. This index instead groups practical guides by family, student and postgraduate stage.
Preparing an application for study
Choose your starting point
| Your current situation | Start with these topics | Outcome to work towards |
|---|---|---|
| A family seeking a school | Stages, registration, school choice and child support | A school where enrolment is possible and a clear transition plan |
| A prospective university student | Major, recognition, tests, documents and funding | Suitable programmes and an application meeting each programme’s conditions |
| An applicant awaiting a decision | Tracking, conditional admission, fees and interviews | A clear next step, separating admission from enrolment |
| A student starting study | First month, courses, academic language and services | A sustainable routine and known help channels |
| A student developing an academic route | Double major, minor, exchange, placement and transfer | A plan accounting for workload and course recognition |
| A postgraduate applicant | Master’s, doctorate, tests, proposal and supervisor | A feasible programme, research and funding plan |
Not every step applies to everyone. A university may require a different test, exchange eligibility can vary, and a family may need transfer rather than initial registration. Use the guides to understand terms and organise documents, then tie each condition to your programme, stage and application cycle. For a guide titled with an earlier year, use its general explanation while checking current deadlines, charges and conditions before acting.
Route one: schools and children’s education
Start with the school-system overview when comparing stages or school types. Then use the foreign-child registration guide to distinguish initial enrolment, transfer and previous overseas study. The private or international school guide identifies questions about licensing, curriculum, qualification and costs beyond a school’s name or advertising language.- School Education in Türkiye: Stages and School Types: Stages, school types and family priorities.
- Foreign Child Enrolment and School Transfers: Organising documents and following registration.
- Choosing a Private or International School: Licensing, curriculum, qualifications and costs.
- Preschool and First Grade: Readiness and Registration: Readiness, language and an initial routine.
- Secondary Pathways and University Progression: Academic and vocational choices and university progression.
- Educational Support, RAM and Follow-Up: School, educational assessment and monitoring the plan.
For previous study, also read School Equivalence and Secondary-School Documents and The Difference Between School and University Equivalence. University-degree equivalence rules should not be used to resolve a child’s school application. Near the end of secondary education, Choosing a University Major connects interests to programme requirements without reducing school years to an admission score.
Route two: applications, admission and funding
Plan the university choice before the paperwork. Begin with Studying at Turkish Universities, compare Public and Foundation Universities, and check University and Programme Recognition. Next, read Admission and Language Tests. Undergraduate applicants can proceed to Turkey’s Admission Test for International Students or The SAT where the programme requires it and the admission route permits application. For the next steps after the test, read After TR-YÖS/2 2026: Questions, Results and University Applications: accessing the published questions, tracking the official result and organising applications under each university’s announcement. Publication of the questions does not mean that results are available or university applications have opened automatically.
Once suitable programmes are identified, these guides help build a trackable file:
- Preparing University Application Documents: Documents, translation, consistent names and copies.
- Tracking Admissions, Conditional Offers and Waitlists: Receipt, assessment, conditional offers and waiting lists.
- University Fees, Deposits and Refunds: Deposits, instalments, withdrawal and budgeting.
- Motivation Letters, CVs and Recommendations: Genuine examples suited to the programme.
- Scholarship and Graduate Interviews: Preparation, explaining goals and discussing your file.
Compare funding types through Scholarships and Building a Strong Application, and read Türkiye Scholarships for that specific government route. Separate a scholarship outcome from university admission where they are different procedures. Once an offer arrives, check conditions, duration and outstanding documents before paying or travelling. Then use Final Registration and Confirming Enrolment to identify what must actually be completed after admission.
Completing paperwork for study
Route three: postgraduate study, research and graduation
Postgraduate choices involve different questions from undergraduate selection. Check the route, supervisor, research, time, funding and intended use of the award. A university name should not obscure differences among its programmes, and not every master’s leads to doctoral study in the same way. Read your target programme’s conditions and connect them with previous experience and future plans.- Thesis and Non-Thesis Master's: Comparing Study Routes: Choosing the route and planning what follows.
- Choosing a PhD Supervisor: Research Fit and Funding: Research fit, expectations and funding.
- ALES, GRE and GMAT: Postgraduate Test Requirements: Understanding programme requirements before preparation.
- Research Planning, Academic Integrity and AI: Questions, methods, referencing and assistance tools.
- Graduation Documents and Diploma Supplement: A file suitable for applications and follow-up.
For an overseas qualification you need to use in Turkey, read Recognition and Equivalence of Foreign Qualifications. For regulated employment or study in another country, ask the receiving authority about its requirements. University admission is not a guarantee of professional use. Supplements and transcripts describe study, but do not guarantee automatic acceptance everywhere.
Where to begin with your current question
| Question | Guide to consult | Step to complete |
|---|---|---|
| A missing application document | Preparing application documents | Identify the document and channel |
| Unclear financial terms | Fees, deposits and refunds | Written terms and a budget |
| Choosing postgraduate study | Master's routes or doctorate and supervision | Goal, plan and requirements |
| A barrier to study | Student support services | A specific request and follow-up office |

Route four: academic life and developing your plan
For timetable issues, start with Course Registration and Timetable Planning and Adding, Dropping and Withdrawing from Courses. Read Grades, GPA and Academic Standing to understand a result or course effect. The following complement those guides:- Reading Course Descriptions, ECTS and Learning Outcomes: Workload, learning outcomes and graduation planning.
- Planning a Double Major or Minor: Differences, time commitments and continuation requirements.
- Erasmus+ Nomination, Learning Agreements and Recognition: Learning agreements, funding and course recognition.
- University Student Support and Accessibility: Finding the right office and making a specific request.
- Academic Appeals and Leave of Absence: Documenting requests and understanding decisions.
Do not add a route merely for its attractive title. Compare workload, timetable clashes, graduation timing and officially recognised courses with your adviser before committing. For a change of institution or programme, see University Transfer and Course Recognition. For activities outside class, read Practical Training and Working While Studying, distinguishing an academic placement from work permission or an employment relationship.
Route five: starting study, language and student experiences
After applying, new tasks begin. The first-month guide organises priorities. Academic Turkish explains the move from everyday conversation to lectures, reading and assignments. The student-experience guide turns published stories into verifiable questions and helps you write a useful account without exposing others’ information.- A Student’s First Month in Turkey: Arrival, enrolment and study routines.
- Studying in Turkish: Academic Language and Communication: Lectures, reading, notes and university communication.
- Student Experiences: Reading and Writing Beyond Advertising: Separating description, information and advertising.
For daily needs, read Comparing Student Housing Options, Planning Living Expenses, Transport and Student Cards, and Electronic Student Documents and Services. Specialised guides cover Student Residence Permits, Bank Accounts and Choosing a Study Laptop. Prioritise approaching deadlines and matters affecting enrolment or attendance, then distribute other tasks across the first weeks.
When language is the main difficulty
Establish whether you need admission evidence of proficiency, a preparatory year or daily help with subject material. Language Tests for Study addresses the first, and The Preparatory Year and Exemption the second. Academic Turkish concerns practice within your discipline: descriptions, examination questions, notes and clear emails. Passing a proficiency test may still leave subject vocabulary and assignment writing to develop through continuing practice.
Use the section and ask useful questions
Read the closest guide, then record stage, programme, academic year and completed step. Identify the unclear document or condition precisely and whether your existing answer is verbal or written. Describe qualification country, programme type and deadline without publishing identity or application numbers or full documents. A specific question helps readers understand the issue rather than exchange experiences irrelevant to your case. When sharing, state the period, broad institution type, stage and actual events, separating observation from explanation. Disclose relevant support, a different offer or an unfinished procedure because they change the meaning of the outcome. Do not promise admission, refunds or equivalence to others. Readers can learn from your steps and mistakes, then verify their own conditions before deciding.
