For a souvenir with a Gaziantep character, start at the coppersmiths’ bazaar. The visit combines watching craftspeople with comparing cookware and smaller pieces. First decide what you want the item for: decoration, serving or cooking. An attractive appearance alone does not answer those questions.

Bakırcılar Çarşısı stands in Boyacı neighbourhood, in Şahinbey and the historic city. It is a group of markets accommodating several crafts, with low shops, wooden fronts and stone streets. Expect a walk between adjoining passages and shops, rather than a mall building with a single entrance.
Begin with a short look around before buying, noting two or three shops whose goods appeal to you. This helps you compare size, handwork and finish before deciding at the first display.
Ask about the material, thickness and weight, and whether the decoration is handmade or machine-produced. For an item that will touch food, ask the seller clearly about its internal lining, care and suitability for your intended use. Do not assume every decorative copper piece is suitable for cooking.
Check edges, handles, base and soldered joints. Choose a size you can carry and store, and test the balance of a jug or serving tray while empty. A well-made small gift may be more practical than a large vessel that is difficult to transport.

| Purchase | What to check | Before paying |
|---|---|---|
| Serving tray | Flatness of the base and edges | Size, weight and packaging |
| Coffee pot or jug | Handle attachment and lining | Use and cleaning instructions |
| Decorative piece | Pattern and finish | Is the price for handwork or a moulded piece? |
Use the start of your visit to look around, then return to the shops you have chosen. Combine the bazaar with an old city walk and Almacı Pazarı if you also want food purchases, but leave heavy shopping until later to make walking easier.
Stone paving and passages call for comfortable shoes; with a pushchair, choose the less crowded route. Ask before photographing a craftsperson or the inside of a shop, especially if taking the photograph interrupts their work.

Ask for the final price of the actual item you are inspecting, rather than a similar one in the display. When bargaining, discuss that product and its packaging options. For a valuable purchase, request an invoice or receipt identifying its material and description.
Check that protruding parts and handles will be protected in your luggage, and consider your baggage weight before buying several pieces. If the shop agrees clearly to collection later, you can avoid carrying purchases throughout the walk; save its location on your phone.
