Prepare your sourcing list before visiting
Istanbul has active textiles and ready-to-wear districts, including Laleli, Merter and Osmanbey. Start by defining the product category, sizes, material quality and quantity you can sell. Visiting one district with a clear purpose helps you compare suppliers more effectively than moving at random between distant neighbourhoods.
Which district should you start with?
All three districts have clothing and textiles businesses. Choose according to the locations of suppliers whose products suit your business; check the stock and terms of sale with each company.

| District | What to look for | Rail arrival point |
|---|
| Laleli | Ready-to-wear clothing and export-related trade | Laleli-İstanbul Ü. on T1 |
| Merter | Ready-to-wear clothing and textiles | Merter on M1A |
| Osmanbey | Fashion, ready-to-wear clothing and textiles | Osmanbey on M2 |
Questions that make quotations comparable

Ask whether goods are sold individually, as a size assortment (seri), or in a quantity set by the seller. Wholesale and smaller wholesale orders have different terms; record the minimum for each model, colours, sizes included in each assortment and whether these can be mixed. Establish the quantity you must buy before calculating the cost per item.

Inspect a sample’s fabric and stitching, and compare actual measurements with the labelled size. Record the model code, company name and address, quoted price and currency, and preparation date. Request written clarification of how faulty items and orders that differ from the sample will be handled.

Start by researching companies’ names and activities. Identifying a company is a first step; inspect the product and order terms yourself before agreeing.
Reaching the supplier’s premises

The stations in the table are starting points for planning; you still need the shop or showroom’s address. Save its location and your appointment before leaving, and check the walking route and final part of the journey. Merter and Osmanbey are on different lines, so plan around the company’s address rather than the district name alone.

Calculate the delivered cost

Request the number of items and cartons, shipment weight and dimensions, and collection point. Ask the transport company how charges are calculated, what the quotation includes, the expected delivery date and who is responsible for tracking the shipment. Add these costs to the order price to make a useful comparison.

Use the first visit to gather comparable quotations and inspect samples, then choose an order suited to your sales capacity. Keeping the invoice, packing list and sample photographs helps you compare what you ordered with what arrived.
