Giresun, its castle hill and the Black Sea coast.
Giresun is a coastal city whose identity connects hazelnuts, castle, historic houses and the island offshore. Its centre combines sea views with architectural heritage, while the museum adds evidence of regional history and local life.
Giresun Castle rises above the historic part of the city, revealing the relationship between defensive position, sea and settlement. Surviving walls and historic features occupy elevated ground with broad coastal views. Its significance lies in the remains, setting and historical associations of a fortified site. These are the remains of a castle, rather than a complete palace with intact rooms.
Zeytinlik neighbourhood preserves historic houses, gardens and lanes reflecting old Giresun. Windows, façades and the arrangement of buildings show how homes were organised on the slope. Architectural details give the area its heritage value, while some houses remain inhabited, bringing urban memory together with everyday life.

The island faces the city coast and has a distinct natural and historical character. Archaeological remains and mythological stories belong to its heritage, although legends are separate from the documented history of individual structures. The island brings maritime and coastal environments into the story of Giresun, revealing connections between mainland and nearby sites.
Giresun Museum occupies the historic Gogora church and presents archaeological and ethnographic material explaining the past and local life. Hazelnuts feature in the economy, produce and markets as a defining part of the province. Museum and markets complement castle and old neighbourhood, portraying the city through history, work and culture.
Check sites and paths before visiting, particularly during rain, fog and upland conditions. Season and maintenance can affect facilities and access. Respect homes and villages, follow open routes and protect monuments and their surroundings.
