Futsal in Türkiye: Rules, the League Format and Following Matches

Futsal is five-a-side football with its own rules, making space, timing and substitutions central to the spectacle. To follow competitions in Türkiye, separate the rules of a match from the format of a tournament, then match the team and season before reading a result or arranging a visit.

⁦1️⃣⁩ More than hiring a five-a-side pitch

A small-sided game may be a recreational booking, a school session or an official futsal competition. Similar team sizes do not make their rules, registration or competitions identical. Search for Futsal and the club’s Turkish name, rather than relying on halı saha, a term commonly associated with hired artificial pitches.

Official futsal has five players on court, including a goalkeeper, with unlimited rolling substitutions under the prescribed procedure. Players can change while play continues. Follow who is actually on court rather than assuming the starting five remain the principal unit throughout.

FeatureFutsal differenceWhat to notice
Playing timeTwo periods of 20 minutes of actual playThe clock stops out of play; a visit exceeds 40 minutes
SubstitutionsUnlimited rolling changes under the procedureA substitute must wait for the team-mate to leave
Touchline restartKick-inThe ball is not thrown in by hand
RestartsFour-second limit for specified situationsWatch the referee’s count; sanctions are not identical in every case

⁦2️⃣⁩ Reading Türkiye’s league in 2026

The Turkish Football Federation, TFF, organises a club competition and provides a futsal hub, regulations, reports and a table. When checked on 28 October 2026, the available futsal statute in its regulations index was labelled 2025–2026. A separate 2026–2027 statute was not established in the selected pages; the previous format should therefore not be presented as a newly adopted next-season decision.

The 2025–2026 text allows for a possible second division in the following season. Permission to make that decision does not prove that the division exists or establish its clubs and dates. If a report says Futsal 1. Lig, check its season and statute instead of reconstructing a league pyramid from the number alone.

Keep the club’s full Turkish name, competition and season together. A football club with a futsal team does not necessarily use its outdoor squad, stadium or fixture list for the indoor game.

⁦3️⃣⁩ A documented example of the competition stages

The 2025–2026 statute offers a clear example of how qualifying, a league and deciding series connect. This table describes that specific season; it is not an open invitation to enter or a current programme for the next one. With a newer statute, begin by comparing its competition-format article.

Stage in 2025–2026FormatWhat advancement means
QualifyingTFF sets groups and format according to entriesThe top two earn league places
LeagueOne group, home and awayThe first five enter the deciding stage
Play-offsSecond plays fifth; third plays fourth; winners then meetTwo wins decide each series
FinalLeague leader awaits the play-off winnerThe first club to two wins becomes champion

In that model, a play-off series starts at the lower-ranked club, with the higher-ranked club hosting game two and, if needed, three. The final starts at the play-off qualifier, followed by matches at the league leader. Home advantage does not predetermine the result.

⁦4️⃣⁩ A match score is not a series victory

Hypothetical example: a club wins game one 5–1 and loses game two 0–1. Under a two-win series, each club has one victory and a third match is needed. A combined 5–2 score does not award advancement. This illustrates the format and is not a real match report.

Also separate resolving a drawn match from resolving the series. The cited season’s knockout rules provide two five-minute extra-time periods, then penalties if required. Winning one match after a shoot-out still counts as one series victory, not two because the contest passed through additional stages.

⁦5️⃣⁩ What to watch on court

Watch ball circulation and the options available before a player receives possession, then how the team maintains passing distances. A turnover near goal can quickly become a chance; one clip does not establish that an entire tactical plan is poor or that a player dominated throughout.

The team foul counter matters: the sixth accumulated foul of a period triggers a direct free-kick under special procedures without a defensive wall. This counter is different from individual yellow cards. For the exact restart location and exceptions, the referee’s decision and the relevant law apply.

A team may use an outfield player in a goalkeeper role to support possession. Watch the attacking advantage being sought and the space left behind rather than treating every goalkeeper advance as a mistake.

⁦6️⃣⁩ Clubs, national teams and Europe

Domestic leagues bring together clubs; a national team represents Türkiye internationally. Age-group competitions also exist. U19 changes the category, squad and entry conditions. A senior or youth national-team result should not be added to a local club’s record.

Clubs have a separate UEFA futsal competition. For example, TFF announced that 2025–2026 Turkish champion Sakarya Karasu 1933 entered the preliminary-round draw for the 2026–2027 UEFA Futsal Champions League. That illustrates a club’s European route; the old draw announcement does not establish its later results or today’s next fixture.

⁦7️⃣⁩ Following and attending a match

Start with the correct competition programme and match the season, stage, teams, date and venue. Distinguish an announcement from a completed result and look for later amendments. Save the hall’s Turkish name and address: a university or municipality associated with the club may not identify the actual venue.

Ask the organiser about spectators, tickets, booking, age restrictions and access. Do not automatically apply Süper Lig stadium ticket requirements to a futsal hall or assume free admission. For remote viewing, check the individual match’s broadcast announcement; a sports subscription does not establish coverage of every game.

For a first visit, allow time to locate the entrance and seat, with flexibility for clock stoppages or possible extra time. Follow one club over several games, recording the result, stage and two observations. This builds understanding without turning an old table into a live ranking.

⁦8️⃣⁩ Common questions

Is every five-a-side game official futsal?
No. Check the competition, organiser and rules; hiring a pitch does not establish participation in a federation league.

Will the visit last only forty minutes?
No. Forty minutes is actual playing time, with the interval, stoppages and any permitted extra time taking longer.

Was a second division established for 2026–2027?
The 2025–2026 statute describes a possibility. A decision and regulations for the relevant season are needed to establish it.

Does goal difference decide a series?
The illustrated series require two wins; one victory each after two matches means a third game, regardless of the combined goals.

Are admission requirements identical everywhere?
Check the organiser, hall and match. Conditions from an outdoor football stadium or another tournament do not apply automatically.
