Football is only part of Türkiye's sporting appeal. Basketball has a strong following, and several Turkish clubs have established themselves among Europe's leading teams.

This guide introduces the domestic game, European competitions, major clubs and the practicalities of watching a match. It can also serve as a starting point for the forum's Turkish basketball section.

1️⃣ Why Basketball Matters in Türkiye

Turkish clubs have won the EuroLeague and competed at the highest European level over many seasons.
Anadolu Efes and Fenerbahçe Beko, in particular, attract committed support.
The game combines a high technical standard with prominent overseas players, alongside Turkish players whose careers have taken them to other European leagues and the NBA.

If you enjoy the tactical detail of European basketball and a lively crowd, Türkiye has plenty to offer.

2️⃣ The Main Competitions

1. Basketbol Süper Ligi — BSL
The BSL is the highest level of men's club basketball in Türkiye. Its established names include Anadolu Efes, Fenerbahçe Beko, Galatasaray, Beşiktaş and Türk Telekom. The other participants change through promotion and relegation.

2. The Turkish Basketball Cup
This is a knockout competition involving top-division clubs. The format creates scope for upsets and for a less fancied side to challenge the favourites.

3. European competitions
Anadolu Efes and Fenerbahçe Beko have been Türkiye's most familiar EuroLeague representatives over recent seasons. European entries can change, so check the current season's line-up.

Other Turkish teams compete in the EuroCup and Basketball Champions League. Domestic results can matter, but admission also depends on the relevant competition's eligibility and entry arrangements; league position alone does not determine every European place.

3️⃣ Clubs to Know

Anadolu Efes
Efes have been a leading Turkish presence in the EuroLeague, winning back-to-back titles in 2021 and 2022. Their successful teams have combined organised attacking basketball with enthusiastic support, particularly on big European nights.

Fenerbahçe Beko
Fenerbahçe's men's basketball team have won the EuroLeague, including the titles in 2017 and 2025, and have reached multiple finals and Final Fours. Distinguished coaches and sustained periods among Europe's strongest clubs form an important part of their recent history.

Other important clubs

Galatasaray, previously known under sponsorship names including Galatasaray Nef.
Beşiktaş.
Türk Telekom.
Karşıyaka of İzmir, long associated with the Pınar sponsored name.

These clubs have also made their mark in domestic basketball and other European competitions. Sponsorship names change, so the familiar name in an older guide may differ from the one on the current fixture list.

4️⃣ Attending a Basketball Match

1. Choose the city and arena
Istanbul offers Anadolu Efes and Fenerbahçe Beko, with especially lively atmospheres in the EuroLeague. Ankara, İzmir and other cities provide further domestic options. A basketball match can feel more compact and approachable than a major football occasion, although the atmosphere varies with the game.

2. Buy a ticket
Ticketing is often more straightforward than for high-demand football fixtures. Start with the club's website and its authorised ticket platform. Arena box-office sales may be available if announced and tickets remain; do not rely on buying at the door for a major game or final.

3. Choose a seat
Arenas are smaller than football grounds, so many seats offer a close view of the action. Seats near the court can make you feel almost part of the game, but sightlines and any obstructions depend on the seat and arena layout.

4. Enjoy the atmosphere
Music, organised chanting and, at some games, dance performances contribute to the entertainment. Basketball can be an appealing family or holiday activity. It is still a competitive sporting event: choose an appropriate section and follow venue instructions rather than assuming that tension or crowd incidents are impossible.

5️⃣ Following Turkish Basketball from Home

Domestic matches are generally available through Turkish sports broadcasters or the authorised services for the season.
EuroLeague and EuroCup coverage depends on international or regional rights in your country.
For digital coverage, use the official EuroLeague website, basketball statistics services and the clubs' own social media accounts.

Check current territorial availability before subscribing to a broadcast package.

6️⃣ Türkiye's National Basketball Team

Türkiye have competed at the Basketball World Cup and EuroBasket. Their outstanding 2010 World Cup campaign on home soil ended with the silver medal: the United States won the final 81–64. It was a major achievement for the hosts, even though the final itself was a clear American victory.

The national team enjoys a substantial following and, at its best, has shown the ability to challenge strong European opposition.
