A simple monthly gym offer can include a joining fee, a longer commitment and separately supplied personal training. Establish what you are buying, how it renews and how it ends before paying. This guide explains contract checks, freezes, cancellation and disputes using official information reviewed on 28 October 2026, without assuming a nationwide tariff or identical policies.

⁦⁩ Identify the service and contracting party​

Distinguish a single admission, a session package with an expiry date, an ongoing subscription, a fixed-term contract and a discount commitment, Taahhüt. Monthly payment does not prove the contract ends each month. The end of a discount does not necessarily terminate the underlying membership.

Check the operator’s legal name, branch, address and contact details, and who invoices personal training. Retain the contract, supplement, advertisement and written offer. Promises concerning the pool, classes or access to every branch should appear in your service description rather than only in a salesperson’s conversation.

⁦⁩ Compare the complete cost and access conditions​

Request a dated, tax-inclusive quotation in lira separating the initial payment, recurring fees and optional services. There is no single national gym tariff: package, branch, permitted hours and facilities affect the offer. Comparing two advertised monthly numbers is therefore insufficient.

If possible, visit at your intended training time and check crowding, booking, hours, closures, entrance access and changing facilities. Establish whether staff only introduce equipment or whether programmes and individual sessions cost extra. For minors, ask about admission age, guardian consent and supervision; one operator’s minimum age is not a national rule.

⁦⁩ Distance purchases differ from signing at the gym​

For an internet or telephone purchase, obtain pre-contract information and a retainable copy, then read the withdrawal clause and service start date. The general distance-contract withdrawal period is 14 days, starting when a service contract is concluded. Exceptions, the nature of the service and consent to early performance can affect the case.

Do not assume every membership signed inside a branch can be cancelled within 14 days. Nor should ongoing-subscription rules automatically be applied to a recreational session booked for a specific date: dated leisure services have exceptions. Request a written explanation if your product’s classification is unclear. Retain the starting and cancellation terms you accepted, not just the price page.

⁦⁩ A freeze needs a separate request and confirmation​

Missing training does not freeze membership, and freezing is different from cancellation. Ask about minimum and maximum periods, charges, required documents, the effective date and resumption of billing. For travel or illness, establish the relevant policy without placing medical records in public groups.

The published Büyükada Beltur contract illustrates variation: freezing depends on membership type, retrospective requests are excluded and billing can resume when the period ends. This is one operator’s example, not a rule for every gym or a verified 2026 tariff. Retain confirmation and the restart date, and ask whether the commitment’s end date or instalments change.

⁦⁩ Cancel through a provable notification​

Send the operator a written or otherwise retainable termination request identifying the membership and date, and request acknowledgement and settlement. Deleting the app, stopping the card or verbally telling a trainer does not establish contractual termination. Retain the request, response and subsequent payment statements.

Where subscription rules apply, the Ministry of Trade explains that termination must be completed within seven days of receipt, and ending an online contract cannot require a more burdensome method than forming it. The framework distinguishes indefinite contracts and fixed terms of at least a year from shorter terms and discount commitments. Request the legal basis and calculation of any early-termination amount rather than accepting an unexplained penalty.

⁦⁩ Refunds and missing services need a clear settlement​

Request an account separating services delivered, prepaid services not delivered, deposits and any lawfully calculated commitment amount. Under the general subscription framework, payment for undelivered service is refundable within 15 days of termination taking effect, with a legitimate commitment amount potentially included in the settlement. This does not make every historic fee or missed session automatically refundable.

If the facility closes or a core package component disappears, document the period, announcement and unavailable service. Request an appropriate remedy, such as restoring service, reducing the price or terminating, depending on the circumstances. Distinguish an operator’s closure from your voluntary absence. For charges after cancellation, request the billing dates and basis rather than disputing only a total.

⁦⁩ Prepare the dispute file and specify your request​

Collect the contract, supplement, offer, invoices, payment evidence, cancellation request, response and evidence of missing service. Write a short chronology and state the requested remedy and amount: refund of a payment, removal of a charge or settlement for service not supplied. Link each figure to evidence and disclose no unnecessary card or medical information.

In 2026, consumer disputes below TRY 186,000 fall within consumer arbitration committees; cases at or above that amount follow the court route and required mediation under the framework. Committee applications can use TÜBİS through e-Devlet or accepted alternatives. Foreign applicants provide a passport or foreign identity number. A court or enforcement notice has separate procedures and deadlines: do not postpone responding while waiting for the gym.
