Visiting İğneada Longoz Forests in Türkiye: Getting There and Planning Your Day
İğneada Longoz Forests National Park combines seasonally flooded woodland, lakes and a Black Sea coast. This practical guide helps you choose a visitor point and plan the journey; access and activities can change.
Where is the park and what can you visit?
İğneada Longoz Forests National Park is near the town of İğneada, in Demirköy district, Kırklareli province, northwestern Türkiye. It covers several areas: reaching town does not automatically mean you have reached your chosen entrance or lake.
Park management lists a visitor centre at the town entrance and a birdwatching tower near Lake Mert. Before setting out, ask whether they are open and how to reach them; do not assume every lake or trail is open to visitors.
Getting there from Istanbul or Kırklareli
The journey is by road through Thrace and Demirköy to İğneada. Allow for your starting point, road conditions and weather, and leave time to return before dark. A park access document describes a winding forest road that is narrow in places; drive carefully.
Park management describes bus services to town from Istanbul and Kırklareli, but schedules can change. Ask the operator for current departures, stops and return services, then check how you will reach your chosen visitor point from town. Do not assume frequent transport to every entrance.
Choose a plan for your day
| Option | Suitable for | Check before leaving |
|---|---|---|
| Short visit | Ask about the visitor centre and birdwatching point near Lake Mert | Confirm opening and access |
| Nature walk | Choose a route allowed by management and suitable for the group | Ask about ground conditions, duration and return |
| Family day | Keep the walk shorter and add a break in town | Ask about facilities and stroller access |
If you arrive late or weather is poor, make town and the return journey your main plan and leave open trails for another visit.
Before booking a tour or entering a trail
Ask park management or the local authority which entrance and paths are open, current opening times and charges, and whether the proposed route, photography or water activity requires permission or a guide. A lake or road appearing on a map does not establish visitor access.
For an organised tour, ask for the meeting point, duration, group size, what the price includes, whether the activity is allowed at that location, and the bad-weather cancellation policy. Do not pay solely on the basis of an old schedule or promotional image.
Safety and protecting the forest
Check forecasts for rain and wind; wet ground may be slippery or parts of it flooded. Wear suitable shoes, carry water, a charged phone and necessary personal medication, and tell someone your plan. Stay on permitted paths and do not enter flooded or isolated areas alone.
Keep away from nesting birds, do not feed wildlife, collect plants or leave litter. Follow signs and management instructions on fires, camping and drones; do not assume every activity is allowed on the beach or in the forest. In an immediate emergency call 112.

No. Choose the visitor point and check its entrance and current access.
