Business Visits and Trade Fairs in Türkiye: Visas, Invitations and Documents

If you are travelling to Türkiye to meet a company or attend a trade fair, start with what you will actually do and the rules for your passport. An invitation and an exhibition pass support part of the purpose, but grant neither a visa nor admission nor permission to work. Two colleagues on the same trip may need different routes because of their nationality, passport type or personal circumstances.

This guide organises a temporary visit, from selecting the appropriate exemption or visa through the invitation, documents, funding and follow-up to arrival and departure. Selected sources were reviewed on 26 October 2026. Mission examples retain their specific scope; the current checklist of the authority accepting your application is the operational reference. There is no single document list, fee or decision time for everyone.

1. A business visit, residence or actual work?

Identify the activities, duration and your role. Meeting a supplier or attending an exhibition differs from working for a company, providing a service or performing installation. Calling a trip “business” does not determine the permission required for every activity, and actual work should not be concealed behind a visitor invitation.

The business visit covered here is temporary and ends with departure under the permission granted. Residence for business connections is a separate application requiring a genuine basis, documents and procedure. Company formation concerns registration, tax and administration. Owning shares, signing a contract or receiving an invitation does not automatically combine these procedures.

If your programme includes a visit and an activity that may require a work permit, exemption or sector approval, explain the details to the competent authority before travelling. This guide does not declare all meetings exempt or apply the same rule to every paid or unpaid participation.

Actual journeyWhat to checkWhat is insufficient on its own
Temporary business meetingsEntry route, purpose, invitation and returnA company letter does not guarantee a visa
Attending an exhibition or conferenceParticipation evidence, visitor role and event programmeAn exhibition pass is not work permission
A service, installation or work for an organisationApplicable work permit, exemption or approvalDescribing the trip as business does not settle permission
A longer stay for business connections or company formationAppropriate residence or company procedures separatelyIncorporation or a contract does not automatically grant residence

2. Check exemption or visa eligibility for your passport and purpose

Review nationality, travel-document type, purpose, duration and the conditions of the visa or exemption. An exemption may apply under its conditions, an e-Visa may be available to eligible applicants for tourism or trade, or a mission application may be necessary. Residence in a country does not automatically give you the exemption available to its citizens.

When checking an e-Visa, match the conditions shown for your case to your actual documents, including any required supporting document. Do not borrow a colleague’s eligibility under a different passport or treat a company invitation as a substitute for the system’s conditions. Use the specialist e-Visa guide for the application procedure.

Visa validity, permitted stay and number of entries are different. Do not assume everyone receives 90 days or that a visa valid for several months permits staying throughout that period. Check previous visits and the rules applying to your passport.

3. Identify the authority and channel before buying services

Identify the mission accepting your application according to nationality or lawful residence and its consular jurisdiction. If applying outside your country of nationality, check eligibility to apply there and evidence of lawful residence. The host company’s Turkish address alone does not determine the overseas mission.

Applications may be made directly to the mission or through an authorised centre under its arrangements. A centre performs tasks such as appointment organisation and document collection; it cannot guarantee a decision or bypass requirements. Do not extend Saudi, Syrian or Pakistani arrangements to every country.

Keep the current category name, checklist and instructions for the form, attendance and passport submission. Ask about the appropriate purpose if several activities are involved. Describe your role rather than choosing a category merely because it asks for fewer papers or has an earlier appointment.

4. The company invitation: make it consistent with the visit

Request an invitation identifying the inviting organisation and its contact details, your name as in the passport, the purpose, intended duration and meeting location. Explaining your role, meetings and allocation of expenses helps clarify the plan. This is practical organisation guidance; the mission’s instructions determine the letter’s format, original-document and authentication requirements.

Check that the signing organisation knows the programme and that its information matches the supporting papers. If several companies or cities are involved, explain the actual itinerary rather than using a generic letter without a clear counterpart or activity. Do not invent a business relationship, signature or reservation to make the file look complete.

A signed or stamped invitation is not necessarily notarised. We do not impose notarisation or an apostille on every invitation worldwide, treat an invitation as guaranteed approval, or assume it covers every expense unless the arrangement is explained and accepted by the authority.

Preparation itemWhat to checkLimit
InviteeCorrect name, passport and roleDo not use a colleague’s details or a fictitious role
InviterOrganisation, address, contact and required signatureAn unidentified generic letter does not explain the visit
PurposeMeetings or activity and participation roleIt must not conceal services or work requiring another route
ProgrammeDuration, locations and intended datesA programme is not a granted period of stay
ExpensesWho actually pays for travel, accommodation and subsistenceAn undertaking does not remove every resources check

5. Exhibitions and conferences: participation evidence and event scope

Prepare evidence appropriate to your role: an entry pass, registration, invitation or attendance document where required. Match the event, organiser, location and dates to the trip. Do not use a pass for an event that has ended or registration under another person’s name, or assume registration selects the visa category by itself.

An exhibition visitor’s documents may differ from those of an exhibitor, speaker or person providing services at a stand. Check the category and activity before contracting, and separately check the organiser’s event-admission instructions. Venue access, customs and carrying samples or equipment may require specialist follow-up; an exhibition pass creates no exemption for these matters.

Guidance for a particular event such as COP31 concerns that event and its scope. Accreditation, an invitation or a channel described there does not automatically apply to every trade fair or conference, or vice versa. Use its specialist guide if that is your destination, while checking your passport and participation status.

6. Host documents: evidence from the counterpart, not a fictitious company

Karachi’s business checklist illustrates a requirement for a stamped and signed Turkish invitation, a tax-registration copy, Chamber of Commerce membership details and supporting evidence. It is one mission’s checklist, not a declaration that every visa applicant worldwide needs identical documents or notarisation.

Ask the host for the documents your checklist specifies and check the company name, connection to the invitation and the required current information. If the contact is a person or organisation to which a company document does not apply, explain the facts to the mission and establish acceptable evidence. Do not create a fictitious company or paper.

The business-connections residence file is different and may include notarised documents from the intended counterpart. Do not transfer that checklist to every short visit, or assume host papers replace the visitor’s passport, resources, professional-status evidence or own application documents.

7. Funding, professional status and accommodation

Identify who pays for travel, accommodation, subsistence and registration, what the company or organiser covers, and what remains payable by the visitor. Keep any assignment or funding letter, invitation and budget consistent, and provide the resources evidence required. A momentary balance or general undertaking does not guarantee the result.

Prepare evidence of your real status under the checklist: an employee on assignment, business owner, self-employed person or another position. A self-employed applicant should not invent salary evidence, and a business owner should not submit an employment letter that misrepresents the facts. Ask which evidence fits your status instead of copying someone else’s file.

Identify actual accommodation throughout the itinerary. If the host pays for the hotel, obtain evidence explaining the arrangement and check accepted accommodation alternatives. We provide no universal income or bank-balance threshold and do not transfer tourist- or family-residence income rules to a business visa.

8. Organising the documents: match them to your instructions

These are preparation groups, not one mandatory checklist for everyone. Check originals, copies, language, translation, authentication and photograph quantity and specifications with the accepting authority. Separate visitor and host papers. Do not require translation of every page or authentication of every document without applicable instructions.

The Foreign Ministry explains a general travel-document validity rule of at least 60 days beyond the permitted stay, with specified exceptions. Match your passport validity to the permission, route and mission instructions rather than reducing it to one phrase for every document and nationality.

9. Reading mission examples without generalising them

Maputo’s instructions published on 6 January 2025 identify an invitation from the Turkish organisation for business meetings, and an invitation or attendance document for a festival or fair. Its common checklist covers identity, insurance, travel, accommodation, resources and evidence supporting return. The useful connection is between purpose and proof; its photograph counts, currency and timing are not worldwide rules.

Karachi’s checklist dated 20 October 2025 distinguishes business meetings, conferences and fairs. Business evidence includes a stamped and signed invitation and specified commercial papers; fair evidence includes an exhibition pass or invitation; conference evidence includes a committee invitation. It also warns that completion time is not guaranteed and advises against purchasing flights or non-refundable hotel arrangements before visa issuance.

The differences are a reason to read your own checklist carefully. Do not import family, medical or work provisions elsewhere on the same page into a trade-fair visit, or use a broad statement about e-Visa eligibility in place of the official system’s conditions for your case.

Example or sourceSpecific valueWhat cannot be generalised
Maputo: businessInvitation from the organisation hosting the visitLocal photo counts, charges or recommended lead time
Karachi: business meetingStamped and signed invitation and named commercial evidenceLocal professional and tax-document requirements for everyone
Karachi: fair or conferenceParticipation evidence matching the event typeEquating an entry pass with a visa or work permission
A particular event such as COP31Instructions for its specific participation arrangementsTransferring a special procedure to every exhibition or visitor

10. Application and submission steps

Follow the order used by the authorised channel. Booking an appointment or paying for a service does not mean the application has been accepted or the visa issued.

  1. Define the activity, role and duration, separating any work or residence route from the temporary visit.
  2. Check nationality, passport, exemption or e-Visa eligibility, or the mission route.
  3. Identify the mission, authorised centre if applicable, category and checklist for your country of application.
  4. Agree the invitation, participation evidence, expenses and actual accommodation with the host or organiser.
  5. Prepare visitor and host papers, resources, itinerary and cover; check consistency, originals and instructions.
  6. Complete the form truthfully and keep its copy, application reference and appointment instructions.
  7. Attend or submit through the required channel and pay the applicable official items, keeping receipts and evidence if the authority retains the passport.
  8. Track through the specified channel, respond to missing items or changes under the correct reference, and retain delivery evidence.
  9. Collect the result and check the document, dates and entries before confirming travel, then organise the visit and departure within the permission.

11. Costs and time: separate items and stages

There is no single business-visit tariff here. Separate government charges, centre fees where applicable, optional services, travel and event costs. Ask for the item, currency, refund policy and receipt. Do not pay for guaranteed approval or a fictitious invitation.

Appointments, preparation, assessment and passport collection are different stages. A mission’s recommendation to apply early is not everyone’s completion deadline. Arrange commitments around your case rather than generalising from other visitors’ experiences. The residence-card charge is not a visitor-visa fee.

ItemWhat to askWhat not to assume
Visa fee where applicableNationality, category, entries, exemption and currencyOne price for all passports or automatic refund
Authorised-centre serviceRequired service, charge and receiptThat it buys a decision or shortens every assessment
Invitation and papersActual cost of required translation or authenticationAuthentication of every paper or a uniform national price
InsuranceRequired period and scope under the checklistThat old cover suits every trip
Event and visitRegistration, accommodation, transport and payerThat the invitation covers every expense
Plan changesReservation cancellation and change conditionsGuaranteed compensation for delay or refusal

12. Follow-up, missing documents and programme delays

Keep the application reference, authorised tracking channel and a copy of the submission. A message confirming receipt of the file or passport, or completion of a service, is not approval. Do not post passports, bank records or company papers in a public reply when seeking help.

If additional evidence is requested, record the item, deadline and delivery channel in the notice, respond under the correct reference and retain delivery proof. We do not invent a 30-day deadline or equate a document request with final refusal. Do not submit a contradictory new application before understanding the first one’s status.

If the exhibition or meeting date changes during assessment, ask the channel how to update the programme, reservations and invitation. Do not assume the visa will automatically be issued for new dates, or that event cancellation automatically closes the application or refunds its charges.

13. Collecting the result and checking the visa

When collecting the passport, read the actual result. Check the name, passport number, category and purpose where shown, validity dates, permitted stay and entries. A sticker or a passport-ready notification does not remove the need to check the document.

If there is an error or the trip now differs from the file, contact the authority before travel; changing a ticket does not correct the visa. Do not alter an official document yourself or treat a new invitation as a substitute for correcting the permission where necessary.

If refused, read what you received and the procedure the mission makes available. Do not transfer a six-month rule or challenge deadline from an in-country residence application to a business visa. A stronger invitation is no promise of removing the refusal reason or securing the next application.

14. Arrival, the visit and departure

Before departure, check the document you will travel on, permission, transit and carrier requirements. Keep access to the host invitation, event evidence, accommodation address, return arrangements, cover and required resources. These help explain the journey but do not guarantee boarding or admission on their own.

The competent border authorities decide admission; a visa does not provide an absolute right of entry. Answer truthfully about purpose, role and duration rather than presenting an attendance programme while intending another activity requiring a different procedure.

During the visit, comply with purpose, permitted stay and entries. An extra meeting, new contract or extended exhibition does not automatically extend your stay. Plan timely departure, retain travel evidence and check permission for the next destination on a multi-country itinerary.

15. Changes to the plan, purpose or host

If the host, expense arrangements, accommodation or city changes, check the required channel and update the explanation and evidence. Do not retain a letter describing an arrangement that is no longer true or assume another company can replace the original without explaining the change.

If the objective becomes work or a longer residence, establish the basis, eligibility and procedure with the competent authority before the permitted stay ends. A visit does not automatically become residence or work permission. Company formation, an invoice or a contract alone is not permission to remain.

If an emergency prevents travel or departure, seek guidance early and preserve evidence of the circumstances and communication. We provide no general grace period or guaranteed extension for flight cancellation or a postponed fair, and do not advise waiting for an overstay before trying to resolve it.

16. Two examples of organising a genuine visit

Example one: an employee plans to meet a supplier in Istanbul for several days and return to her job. She checks the route for her passport and application country, obtains an accurate supplier invitation and an employer assignment and funding arrangement reflecting reality, and follows her mission’s checklist and named host papers. She does not assume a colleague’s foreign residence or e-Visa applies to her, or start actual work on the strength of the invitation.

Example two: a self-employed business owner attends a fair, with registration and meetings at several companies before leaving. He explains his genuine status, resources, accommodation and programme, and uses the participation evidence accepted by the authority instead of inventing salary proof. If asked to provide services or installation during the trip, he checks the appropriate permission before accepting the work. These examples organise a file; they establish no individual eligibility, work exemption or guaranteed stay.

Frequently asked questions

Is a company invitation enough to obtain a visa?
No. It supports the purpose within the file; passport, route, resources, other requirements and the decision remain relevant.

Is a business visit business-connections residence?
No. A temporary visit differs from a residence application based on commercial connections, its continuing basis and procedures.

Does every business visitor need a consular visa?
An exemption, conditional e-Visa or mission application may apply. Check your passport, purpose and actual conditions.

Does Gulf residence give me a Gulf citizen’s exemption?
No. Residence does not transfer nationality-based rules. Check your own travel document and eligibility.

Do I automatically receive 90 days?
No. Read permitted stay, validity, entries and any applicable previous-visit rules.

Must every invitation be notarised?
We assume no worldwide requirement. Follow your authority’s instructions on format, originals, signatures and authentication.

What should I check in an invitation?
Inviter, invitee, purpose, role, duration, location, contact and expenses, consistently with the file.

Does everyone need the host company’s papers?
A mission checklist may name them, as Karachi’s does. Do not generalise or confuse them with business-connections residence documents.

Does an exhibition pass replace a visa?
No. It supports participation where accepted, without granting Turkish entry, work permission or an automatic exemption.

Do COP31 rules apply to every conference?
No. Event-specific arrangements retain their scope and participation requirements.

Should a self-employed applicant submit a salary letter?
Provide genuine status and required evidence, asking about an appropriate alternative rather than inventing employment.

Is there a universal business-visit bank balance?
The selected sources establish no worldwide threshold. Follow the evidence period required and explain actual funding.

Does the host invitation mean it pays everything?
No. Identify what the host, employer and visitor actually pay and provide the required evidence.

Should I buy non-refundable travel and accommodation before the result?
Check reservation requirements and change conditions. Karachi warns against these commitments before issuance; compensation is not promised.

Is there one fee or decision time?
No. Items, appointments, channels and nationality conditions differ; appointment booking or service payment guarantees no decision.

Does a passport-ready message mean approval?
No. Collect the result and read the actual document, details and conditions.

Can I apply a residence-refusal deadline to visa refusal?
No. Check the mission’s procedure for your result instead of generalising from another route.

Does a company visit allow installation or service provision?
The invitation does not settle that. Check the work permit, exemption or approval applicable to the real activity before performing it.

Does forming a company extend my visit?
Not automatically. Company registration, residence and work are separate procedures; a contract or registration is not permission to stay.

What if the event changes or I cannot depart?
Update the authority, plan and evidence and seek guidance early. Postponement or flight cancellation is no general extension.
