🎓 Türkiye Scholarships: A Step-by-Step Guide

Türkiye Bursları is a government-funded scholarship programme for international students. This article began as a 2025 guide; the outdated stipend figures and application process have been reviewed against official information on 8 October 2026.

What is the scholarship?
The full-time scheme combines university placement and tuition support with a stipend, accommodation arrangements, health insurance, language study and specified travel support. It is competitive, and the award terms determine exactly what is covered.

Benefits and study levels
  • Tuition coverage during the approved scholarship period.
  • A monthly payment according to the award level.
  • Accommodation support and health insurance under programme rules, rather than an unlimited promise of free housing or all medical expenses.
  • Specified flight arrangements at the start of study and on graduation.
  • A one-year Turkish course for awardees who do not have the required accepted C1 Turkish proficiency.
The full-time English programme page currently lists the amounts below. Its Turkish pages still show older figures, so the award notice should be used to confirm your entitlement. The original TRY 1,000–1,800 figures are obsolete and should not be used for budgeting.

Level or schemeTypical duration or scheme periodMonthly amount listed on the official English site
Associate / bachelor'sAssociate usually two years; bachelor's commonly four to six years, plus language preparation where requiredTRY 6,500
Master'sCommonly two years, subject to programme and award termsTRY 9,500
PhDCommonly four years, subject to programme and award termsTRY 13,000
Research ScholarshipSeparate short-term scheme: three to twelve monthsTRY 37,000; stipend only
Research funding is a different scheme and does not include all the benefits of a full-time degree award. Postgraduate accommodation also has different arrangements from undergraduate accommodation; read the current conditions for your level.

Eligibility
  • Turkish citizens and those who have lost Turkish citizenship are not eligible.
  • You cannot apply at a level at which you are already enrolled in a Turkish university.
  • Minimum academic achievement is 70% for associate/bachelor's study, 75% for graduate study and 90% for medicine, dentistry and pharmacy.
  • Degree applicants must be under 21 for associate/bachelor's study, under 30 for master's study and under 35 for PhD study.
These thresholds do not guarantee selection. Check graduation timing, available programmes and any additional academic or language requirements. Separate schemes have their own criteria.

Application dates and the official platform
The main degree application period is generally January–February. For the 2026 round, applications ran from 10 January to 20 February 2026 and that window has closed. Do not assume future dates without checking the next announcement. Other scholarship schemes have separate calendars.

Start at the official Türkiye Scholarships website and follow its TBBS application link. The online application is free.

Apply step by step
  1. Create your own account in the official application system.
  2. Enter your name, citizenship, contact details and identity information accurately.
  3. Upload the documents required for your level: identity document, photograph, diploma or graduation evidence, transcript and any required academic or language results. Complete the motivation questions and other requested sections; PhD applicants also need the required research material.
  4. Research and rank the eligible programme choices offered to you. The official guidance permits up to twelve programme/university preferences; available choices depend on your background.
  5. Review the complete application, submit it by the deadline and retain the confirmation and reference details.

Prepare a credible application
Write a specific statement explaining your subject choice and plans. Follow the portal's document-language, translation, format and size rules rather than assuming every document needs the same translation or must be a PDF. Use legible complete scans and remove accidental duplicates. A strong application remains subject to competitive selection.

What happens after submission?
Eligibility screening and expert assessment come before invitations to the next stage. Shortlisted applicants follow the test and interview arrangements in their invitation; an interview invitation is not a final award. The original guide's sequence of final results followed by a preliminary interview should not be followed.

If awarded a scholarship, complete the acceptance and pre-arrival requirements. Check the appropriate student visa or entry rules with the Turkish mission for your nationality. Applying for a Türkiye e-Visa Online in 2025: A Step-by-step Guide; an e-Visa is not a substitute for the student visa route where one is required.

On arrival, complete the university, scholarship, accommodation and residence formalities. Registration is not automatic simply because you have entered Türkiye.
