💇 Understanding a hair-transplant plan

Istanbul is a well-known destination for hair transplantation. A suitable technique, an appropriately qualified team, realistic expectations and follow-up matter more than an advertised graft count.
Clinical review, 8 October 2026: no technique guarantees density, scar-free healing or a particular result. FUT is still used; Sapphire FUE and DHI are not the only options. The original fixed three-day trip and detailed washing timetable should be treated as examples to discuss with the surgeon, not universal instructions.

1. What do the technique names mean?

Sapphire FUE: follicles are individually extracted by FUE; a sapphire blade may be used to create recipient sites. Claims of less bleeding, faster healing or higher density need evidence and depend on how the procedure is performed. A large area or a proposed 4,000-plus graft session requires careful donor-area assessment rather than an automatic technique choice.
DHI / Choi implanter: an implantation device places grafts into recipient sites, often without a separate pre-made incision stage. It can help the team control placement and direction. Partial or unshaven options may be possible, but are not guaranteed for every patient. It may be considered for selected thinning patterns, including some women and men wanting less visible shaving.
FUT: a strip of hair-bearing scalp is removed and divided into grafts. It remains an option for some patients and leaves a linear donor scar. FUE also leaves small scars.
Ask which approach fits the cause of your hair loss, donor supply and long-term plan. A transplant is unsuitable for some forms of hair loss.

2. An example treatment itinerary

  1. Arrival and assessment: transport and hotel arrangements, any indicated blood tests, scalp examination and agreement on the hairline and graft plan.
  2. Procedure day: local anaesthesia, harvesting, recipient-site preparation/implantation and donor-area dressings. A session may take much of a day; six to eight hours is an example, not a fixed duration.
  3. Initial review: dressing checks, the first wash when advised, home-care demonstration and written instructions for prescribed products and medicines.
Some packages schedule these stages over three days. Confirm the medically appropriate stay, fitness to travel and later follow-up; the package timetable does not determine recovery.

3. Sleeping and washing

The clinic may advise sleeping with the head raised and protecting grafts from rubbing in the early days. The original example of forty-five degrees for five days is not a rule for every operation.
Use only the recommended products and washing method. A plan may include softening crusts, a gentle lukewarm rinse and dabbing rather than rubbing, but lotion contact time, the first wash and crust removal depend on the surgeon's protocol. Do not force crusts off to meet a day-ten deadline. Clarify any instruction you do not understand.

4. Shedding and regrowth

Transplanted hairs commonly shed in the early weeks, and nearby hairs can temporarily shed too. New growth often begins several months later. The original milestones of months three to four, a visible change by month six and a result at one year are broad expectations, not a guaranteed percentage or finish date; final assessment can take longer.
Ask the team to review unusual or worsening shedding rather than assuming every change is harmless.

5. Restrictions and warning signs

Smoking can impair healing. Discuss smoking cessation and when to resume strenuous exercise, swimming and sauna use. A blanket one-month rule is not a substitute for your postoperative plan.
Bleeding, infection, anaesthetic reactions, noticeable scarring or graft failure can occur. Contact the clinic promptly for severe pain or unexpected symptoms and seek local urgent care when needed.
Final advice: protect the limited donor supply. A sensible distribution and a plan for future hair loss are more valuable than the largest possible graft number. Obtain clear responsibility for complications and aftercare before paying.
