Beşiktaş 2026–2027: the Black Eagles pursue the leaders
Beşiktaş began the season under Italian coach Vincenzo Italiano and stood third after six rounds, one point behind the leaders. Their derby victory over Fenerbahçe and strong Europa League opening offered encouraging signs, alongside a clear need for greater consistency away from home.

Opening league results
The team took 12 points from four wins and two defeats, with no draws. They scored 14 goals and conceded seven, for a goal difference of +7.
| Opponent | Venue | Beşiktaş’s result |
|---|---|---|
| Eyüpspor | Home | Won 1–0 |
| Alanyaspor | Away | Lost 0–1 |
| Çorum | Home | Won 6–2 |
| Fenerbahçe | Away | Won 2–1 |
| Erzurumspor | Home | Won 3–0 |
| Amedspor | Away | Lost 2–3 |
Beşiktaş won all three home matches but collected only three points from their three away trips. Maintaining that home strength while improving on the road looks an important step in their challenge.
Leading squad members
Goalkeepers: Alexander Nübel and Doğan Alemdar.
Defenders: Emmanuel Agbadou, Tiago Djaló, Emirhan Topçu, Amir Murillo, Rıdvan Yılmaz and Kassoum Ouattara.
Midfielders: Orkun Kökçü, Salih Özcan, Wilfred Ndidi, Junior Olaitan and Fabio Miretti.
Forwards and wide players: Dušan Vlahović, Václav Černý, Leandro Trossard, Ernest Poku, İlhan Fakılı, Oh Hyeon-gyu and Semih Kılıçsoy.
These are prominent members of the squad at the review date. The starting line-up varies with the opposition and players’ readiness.
Vlahović led the team’s league scoring with five goals, followed by Černý and İlhan Fakılı with two each. The figures highlight the Serbian striker’s importance, with other players also contributing in attack.
Tactical assessment: what does the team need?
At his official presentation, the club emphasised pressing and attacking ambition. Discussion of how Beşiktaş use possession to create chances and protect the space behind a high defensive line is football analysis, rather than a verbatim claim from the coach’s presentation. Two points stand out:
1. Turning control into chances
The variety of midfield and wide options can help supply the striker. Their value becomes clear when the team get the ball into dangerous areas and find different ways to score against deep-lying opponents.
2. Protecting the space behind the press
Advancing as a unit requires the lines to stay close together and players to cover quickly when possession is lost. Improving that balance could help Beşiktaş reduce the fluctuations in their away performances.
Fitness update: The club’s 1 October training report stated that Vlahović was doing individual return-to-play work in the gym. His availability for the next match therefore depended on the progress of his recovery.
A strong Europa League opening
Beşiktaş opened the Europa League league phase by beating Marseille 4–1 on 17 September 2026.
İlhan Fakılı, Černý, Amir Murillo and Ernest Poku scored. Having four different scorers in that match was an encouraging sign of the team’s ability to threaten from several positions.
