🔄 Turkish Football’s Summer 2026 Transfer Window
New stars, announced contracts and the needs of the leading clubs

Summer 2026 brought prominent names to Turkish football, with clear differences in how clubs built their teams: buying players on long contracts, attracting stars available on free transfers, and strengthening positions that needed experience or fresh attacking options.

This review covers major confirmed arrivals at Galatasaray, Fenerbahçe, Beşiktaş and Trabzonspor. It explains the announced terms before assessing what the signings could offer on the pitch in 2026–2027.

📅 Last updated: 30 September 2026.
Coverage:
major incoming transfers at the four clubs. Financial figures refer to the announced terms of each deal.

1️⃣ 🗓️ When did the window open and close?

The Turkish Football Federation set the following transfer and registration periods for 2026–2027:

WindowOpensCloses
Summer 202622 June 20264 September 2026
Winter 20271 January 20275 February 2027

With the summer window closed, assessment turns to performance: how well the players settle together, their ability to cope with successive matches, and their impact in the positions they were recruited to strengthen.

2️⃣ 🦁 Galatasaray: a leading winger, creativity and a striker for the future

Galatasaray’s leading signings combine a player with extensive Serie A experience, an attacking talent from Russia and a Turkish striker who has played in Portugal.

Aleksey Batrakov — Lokomotiv Moscow20 August 2026Permanent transfer; five years€25 million
Deniz Gül — Porto1 September 2026Permanent transfer; five years€10 million

⚡ Rafael Leão: a threat from the left

Leão gives the team an attacking option built on pace, one-on-one ability and runs into space. From a tactical perspective, Galatasaray could benefit from his ability to draw a defender out wide, opening room for a team-mate moving through the middle.

The challenge is organising the movements around him: when should the full-back overlap, and when should a midfielder enter the space the defender has vacated? Those combinations help turn individual skill into repeated chances.

🎯 Batrakov: connecting midfield and attack

Batrakov arrives as an attacking midfielder who can operate behind the striker. That role involves receiving between the opposition’s lines and connecting the build-up with the final pass or a shot from around the penalty area.

Tactically, this type of player needs movement ahead of him and balance behind him, allowing him to attempt ambitious passes without leaving the team disorganised if possession is lost.

🇹🇷 Deniz Gül: developing a Turkish attacking option

Gül adds a Turkish striker on a long contract after his spell at Porto. The contract length gives the club time to build his role gradually, while meaningful playing time will be important to his development.

💶 Important financial detail: the deals give the previous clubs a share of the profit on the player’s next sale: 20% to Milan for Leão, 15% to Lokomotiv for Batrakov and 10% to Porto for Gül. As announced, these percentages apply to profit, rather than the full future sale price.

3️⃣ 🐤 Fenerbahçe: strengthening the attack and adding defensive experience

Mason Greenwood, Romelu Lukaku and Nathan Aké were among Fenerbahçe’s notable signings, adding options in attack and defence.

Romelu LukakuNapoliPermanent transfer confirmed by Napoli’s announcement on 12 August 2026.
Nathan AkéManchester CityArrival confirmed by the English club’s announcement, which did not give a fee.

⚽ Greenwood: another attacking option

Greenwood’s signing was announced on 14 July 2026. The €39 million fee is payable to Marseille in three equal instalments over three years, with Fenerbahçe also covering the solidarity contribution due under FIFA rules.

From a tactical perspective, defining his position and his relationships with the striker and other wingers will be important. Having several players who can move towards the penalty area gives the coach flexibility, but requires a clear allocation of space and responsibilities.

💪 Lukaku: a focal point at centre-forward

Lukaku could give the team a focal point in attack, receiving under pressure from defenders before linking with team-mates or moving into the penalty area.

It will be useful to watch the service he receives. Does he get passes while facing goal? Is a team-mate close enough to support him when he receives with his back to goal? These details can shape a striker’s contribution as much as his individual finishing ability.

🛡️ Aké: experience and defensive flexibility

Aké brings experience at centre-back and on the left. His versatility could help the coach adapt the back line to different opponents, while fitness and understanding with the other defenders remain central to assessing his spell at the club.

4️⃣ 🦅 Beşiktaş: a specialist striker and a stronger goalkeeping department

Beşiktaş strengthened two positions with a direct bearing on results, signing Dušan Vlahović at centre-forward and Alexander Nübel in goal.

Dušan VlahovićFree transfer after his time at Juventus.Three years, through the end of 2028–2029.
Alexander NübelPermanent transfer from Bayern Munich.Three years, through the end of 2028–2029.

🎯 Vlahović: building the attack around the striker

Beşiktaş announced Vlahović’s contract on 13 August 2026, with guaranteed pay of €7.5 million per season.

Tactically, a specialist centre-forward opens up different routes to goal: crosses, passes behind the defence and balls received inside the penalty area. Making those routes work depends on the movements of the wingers and midfielders, and how close they are when he needs support.

🧤 Nübel: stability behind the defence

Nübel’s permanent signing was announced on 8 July 2026. He had been a Bayern Munich player, with a loan spell at Stuttgart before the move.

Assessing a goalkeeper involves more than saves: communication with the defence, dealing with high balls, decisions away from his goal and the quality of his passing when the team is under pressure all matter.

5️⃣ 🌊 Trabzonspor: Mohamed Salah and Fabinho

Trabzonspor brought in Mohamed Salah and Fabinho on two-year contracts, adding experience in attack and midfield.

PlayerAnnouncementDeal and contract
Mohamed Salah6 August 2026Free transfer; two-year contract.
Fabinho24 August 2026Free transfer; two-year contract.

🇪🇬 Mohamed Salah: attacking experience and major responsibility

Salah joined Trabzonspor after his time at Liverpool. Tactically, he gives the team a player who can influence the game from the right and move into goalscoring positions, backed by extensive experience of major matches.

The team will need good combinations around him: support from the full-back, the striker’s movements and midfielders arriving in areas where he can find them. Managing his workload between matches will also be important to making the most of his experience throughout the season.

🇧🇷 Fabinho: balancing the midfield

Fabinho’s arrival could help protect the space in front of the defence and connect the lines, particularly when several team-mates push forward to support attacks.

His understanding with the midfielder alongside him will matter: who advances, who covers, and how does the team react immediately after losing possession? Getting those relationships right gives the attack more freedom without leaving large spaces behind it.

💶 Clarifying Salah’s contract: the announcement specifies €10 million in annual pay and a €7 million signing payment for each season, making €17 million guaranteed annually, alongside other clauses. This money is payable to the player; it is not a transfer fee paid to Liverpool.

6️⃣ 💰 Understanding the financial figures

Financial terms vary between signings, so comparisons must establish what each figure measures.

ItemMeaning
Transfer feeThe amount agreed for payment to the previous club.
Annual payThe amount the player receives for a season.
Signing paymentA payment or payments to the player under the contract’s terms.
IncentivesPayments linked to specified conditions being met.
Free transferA signing without a transfer fee to the previous club; wages and other commitments remain.

For example, the transfer fees given here for Leão, Batrakov and Gül total €73 million. That covers only these three deals, excludes their wages and does not represent Galatasaray’s entire transfer-window spending.

Similarly, Greenwood’s announced figure is a transfer fee, whereas Salah’s annual guaranteed figure concerns payments to the player. Accurate financial comparison starts by separating those categories.

7️⃣ 🔍 What should we watch during the season?

Big names raise expectations, but their value emerges through how they are used and whether they keep contributing. These are the key tactical questions:

TeamQuestion to follow
GalatasarayHow will Leão’s pace combine with Batrakov’s creativity and the centre-forward options?
FenerbahçeHow will attacking roles be allocated, and how will Aké affect the organisation of the defence?
BeşiktaşWill Vlahović receive good chances, and will stability behind him improve?
TrabzonsporHow will the team balance getting the best from Salah with providing the necessary midfield protection?

📊 To assess any signing more effectively, follow:

  • Actual playing time and sustained fitness.
  • How well the position and role suit the player’s abilities.
  • The effect on team-mates’ performances and the team’s organisation.
  • Contributions against different opponents, particularly in difficult matches.
  • How understanding within the team develops over time.

This is a tactical assessment of the signings and their potential roles. Judging their success requires watching their performances throughout the season.
