Curling in Türkiye 2026: Ice and Floor Curling, Teams, Scoring and Competitions
Why do players sweep ice ahead of a stone, and why does only one team score in an end? Curling combines accuracy with team decisions. In Türkiye, ice curling and floor curling have different equipment and rules. This guide explains matches, competition information and results, using selected sources reviewed on 28 October 2026.

Identify the version you are watching
Ice curling uses stones delivered towards a target called the house, with its centre known as the button. Teams alternate deliveries, building the end through placement and sweeping decisions. Floor curling uses a specially prepared level surface and stones with bearings. It does not require an ice arena and is distinct from Olympic ice competition.
The Turkish Curling Federation provides information about both versions. Check discipline and category before seeking training or opening a table. “Mixed” alone is insufficient: four-player mixed ice curling differs from mixed doubles, and floor curling has its own team formations. These distinctions change both player and stone numbers.
| Format | Basic playing team | Stones in an end |
|---|---|---|
| Traditional ice curling | Four players | Eight delivered per team |
| Ice mixed doubles | One woman and one man | Five delivered plus one pre-positioned per team |
| Turkish floor curling, September 2026 rules | Two players; men, women or mixed by category | Four per team |
How ice curling points are counted
After all deliveries, the team closest to the centre scores one point for each of its stones in or touching the house that is closer than any opposing stone. Not every stone in the rings scores, and inner ring colours do not have different values as on a dartboard. Only one team scores in an end, or the end is blank.
The table shows hypothetical eligible stones ordered from closest to furthest. It is not a real match result. A television angle cannot settle every close comparison; measurement may be needed before the score is agreed.
| Closest first | End score | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Red, red, yellow, red | Two to red | Two red stones before the nearest yellow |
| Red, yellow, red | One to red | Yellow prevents the further red stone counting |
| No stones in or touching the house | Zero to both | A blank end |
The match score adds points across counted ends; it does not count how many ends each team won. A three-point end can offset several one-point losses. If an ice game remains tied after its scheduled ends, extra ends continue until a team scores under the applicable rule.
Roles and the last-stone advantage
In a traditional team each player delivers twice, in positions called lead, second, third and fourth. The skip directs strategy but does not necessarily deliver the final two stones. Watch who calls the target and who delivers, including the change of directing duties when the skip plays.
The hammer means having the last stone of an end. It offers the final decision rather than an automatic point: an opponent can still score against it. In traditional play, scoring passes the advantage to the opponent, while a blank can preserve it. Mixed doubles treats a blank differently, so do not transfer that rule between formats.
This helps explain tactical choices. A team may clear stones or protect a close stone rather than try to collect the largest visible number. Sweeping helps manage a stone’s path within the rules; it is not directly pushing the stone with a brush. Assess a shot in the context of stones already placed, remaining deliveries and the score.
Mixed doubles and floor curling have separate systems
In ice mixed doubles, one player delivers the first and fifth stones and the other the second, third and fourth. Those roles can change between ends. Each team starts an end with a positioned stone that can count in scoring. Current international rules schedule eight ends; do not infer the length from a men’s team match watched previously.
On 15 October 2026, the Turkish federation published updated floor rules dated September 2026. These specify eight ends and separate arrangements for team formations, delivery, ties and standings points. Floor curling is not a small practice version applying every ice rule. Read its document and category notice before entering.
Under that document, a floor match win earns one standings point and a defeat zero. Stone points are the score within the match. The standings point is not a count of stones nearest the button, and football’s three-point victory system should not be used to interpret the curling table.
Following Turkish competitions and 2026–2027
The federation provides league and result routes, an activity calendar and club information. Its general information identifies ice Süper Lig and 1. Lig and distinguishes ice activity from floor competition. These are routes to find an event, rather than a guarantee that every category uses the same city or annual dates.
On 28 October the league page displayed a 2024–2025 season heading and tables of zeros. That screen alone cannot establish 2026–2027 standings or a new champion. Select the correct season and compare it with the dated competition notice and result. A new-season fee tariff does not make an older fixture table current.
Before relying on a date, match the discipline, category, stage, hall, time and amendments. A refereeing course notice is not a spectator championship invitation, and a club directory is not a confirmed entry list. International national-team events should be separated from domestic club leagues, and mixed doubles from four-player teams.
Read the match result alongside the table
Start with the match card: opponents, category, current end or final status, then total. Successive columns show points in individual ends. Some cells may remain unplayed when a game ends under its rules. A zero does not automatically mean an absent team, and a screenshot taken during play is not a final score.
Then open the group or league table: matches played, wins, losses and the published tie-breaker. One win does not establish a season champion, and a temporary lead does not guarantee a final place. Keep the round context: a group defeat can still leave qualification or later rounds available in that competition.
A useful personal record contains competition and season, category, opponents, score, status and update date. It separates a celebratory post from an approved result and avoids combining men, women, ice and floor entries in one table. Where posts disagree, look for the approved amendment rather than choosing the more widely shared version.
Watching and arranging a first experience
For a visit, ask the organiser about spectator admission, the hall, session time, accessibility and seating. Confirm whether any ticket covers one session or a whole day and whether there is a fee at all. No universal verified tariff applies here. An international arena archive photo illustrates sheets of ice, not the equipment or bookable spaces of a Turkish venue.
For a first experience, specify ice or floor before asking a club about an introductory session, equipment and category. Organised entry depends on event requirements and club assessment. An online form alone does not establish acceptance or national-team selection. When following remotely, distinguish live scores from video coverage and check viewing rights for the event.
Frequently asked questions
Is floor curling the Olympic version?
It uses a non-ice surface and separate equipment and rules; it is distinct from Olympic ice competition.
Does every stone in the house score?
Only eligible stones closer than any opponent’s stone count, for one team per end.
Must the skip deliver the final stone?
No. Directing strategy and the delivery order are separate roles.
Does every game have ten ends?
Formats differ. Mixed doubles has eight, as do current Turkish floor rules.
Does a table of zeros prove a new season started?
No. Check the named season and the dated competition notice and results.
