1.
A flexible heritage itinerary for autumn
Black Sea museums are spread across coastal cities and inland towns. Restoration at a historic house, a museum relocation or winter opening hours can change the day’s plans. Choose one main attraction and a nearby alternative for each city, and give travel between provinces its own allowance.
A winter view of Kastamonu Castle and the city below; a central walking route offers an alternative according to weather and permitted access.
2.
Updates that change your plans
Kastamonu: the governor’s office announced that Livapaşa Ethnography Museum reopened after restoration on 4 May 2026. Combine it with Kastamonu Museum and the markets after confirming current visiting hours.
Trabzon: winter hours apply from 1 October 2026 to 1 May 2027. Trabzon Museum (Kostaki Mansion) is open 08:00–17:00, with ticket sales ending at 16:30, and is closed on Mondays. Sümela archaeological site is open 08:00–17:00, with its ticket office closing at 16:30. Küçük Ayvasıl Church is open 08:00–17:00. The Monday closure stated here applies to the museum. Check date-specific notices rather than relying on the summer schedule.
Samsun: the Bandırma museum ship moved to its new location in İstiklal Square in July 2026. Confirm the current entrance and visitor arrangements rather than relying on its previous location in maps or photographs.

Closures that need an alternative
| Site | Access status | How to adapt the day |
|---|---|---|
| Hazeranlar Mansion, Amasya | Closed from 11 November 2024 until repairs and exhibition work are complete | Choose the Yeşilırmak river walk and Bayezid complex, and check Amasya Museum’s hours |
| Latifoğlu Mansion and Atatürk Ethnography House, Tokat | Both closed for maintenance | Build the day around Taşhan, the markets and historic architecture |
| Konuralp Museum, Düzce | Closed for strengthening work | Check Roman theatre access and permitted routes separately |
| Ayazma Cave within Cehennemağzı, Ereğli | Closed; the notice concerns this cave | Ask about the other parts of the site; do not read this as a closure of the entire complex |
An estimated completion date does not establish reopening. Keep out of closed areas even if older photographs show visitors there.
An archival view of Taşhan in Tokat, a heritage stop on a walk through the markets and historic architecture.

Day routes by overnight base
| City or base | Suggested route | What to confirm |
|---|---|---|
| Trabzon | Kostaki Museum, bazaars and city walls | Winter opening hours and last admission |
| Kastamonu | The museums, Nasrullah Mosque and markets | Museum hours; then choose the castle or clock tower according to your ability to climb |
| Amasya | The city museum, Bayezid complex and river walk | Museum hours; leave Hazeranlar’s interior out of the plan until reopening |
| Tokat | Taşhan, Gök Medrese and the markets | Access to each building; do not rely on the two closed historic houses |
| Düzce and Konuralp | The theatre and permitted archaeological areas, then the town | Theatre access is separate from the museum closure |
| Samsun | Bandırma at its current site and central landmarks | The current entrance, tickets and visiting time |
Choose one row for a day according to where you stay. Travelling between the eastern and western Black Sea requires a separate travel programme; these stops do not form a single day trip.
Stonework and passageways at the Prusias ad Hypium theatre in Konuralp; follow the authorised visitor route on the day.

Rain, steps and family needs
Prioritise indoor visits when rain is forecast, while keeping an option that does not depend on a closed building. Watch for steps and wet stone at castles and archaeological sites, and shorten the outdoor walk if conditions make it difficult. A theatre or castle’s presence does not mean every tier or tower is accessible.
For families, choose two nearby attractions with a break between them, and arrange return transport from rural areas. Ask about access if a pushchair or limited mobility affects the day’s plans.
6.
Confirm before every visit
- The Turkish name and current entrance, especially after relocation or restoration.
- Seasonal hours, last admission and the closing day.
- The extent of any closure: an entire building, one gallery or a specific cave.
- Your ticket category and the conditions of any pass you intend to use.
- The weather, available route and a nearby alternative if plans change.
