Child Residence in Türkiye: Joining Family from Abroad
A foreign child coming from abroad to live with family in Türkiye needs three separate matters arranged: entry with the appropriate document and route, eligibility for a residence category, and an application establishing the relationship to the sponsor, custody, accommodation and health cover. Booking a journey or a parent holding residence permission does not automatically issue a permit to the child. The child’s file is not simply another line added to a parent’s card.
This guide concerns a foreign child arriving from abroad, while explaining the limits of the dependent adult-child category. If the child is Turkish, start with evidence of citizenship and Turkish documents rather than assuming a foreign national’s residence permit is needed. A baby born in Türkiye has a different sequence of birth registration, travel documentation and residence arrangements, explained in the separate newborn guide. The specific procedural information here was reviewed on 26 October 2026, with individual assessment remaining with the competent authority.

Start by identifying the child’s and family’s circumstances
Identify the child’s nationality, travel document, age and relationship to the person who will support them in Türkiye, together with that person’s status and the duration of their lawful permission. Distinguish a minor from an adult child whose dependency is established. Calling someone ‘my child’, or their continuing education, does not by itself place every adult in the dependent category.
Family residence is one suitable route where the child and sponsor meet its conditions. If it does not apply, do not select tourism or student residence simply because the form looks easier. Check the actual purpose of stay and eligibility for an alternative before lawful status expires.
| Situation | What determines the route? | What not to assume |
|---|---|---|
| Foreign minor joining their father, mother or family | Relationship, sponsor status, family-residence conditions and custody | That a parent’s card automatically covers the child |
| Dependent foreign adult child | Evidence of dependency, category eligibility and accepted documents | That everyone over 18 who remains a student is automatically dependent |
| Turkish child or a citizenship position needing confirmation | Evidence of citizenship and the appropriate identity or travel document | That every child born abroad is foreign or needs residence permission |
| Child wishing to study where family residence does not apply | The student route and appropriate care arrangements and documents | That school admission alone authorises residence |
| Baby born in Türkiye | Birth procedures, passport, parents’ status and the newborn’s application | That the newborn’s deadlines or arrangements transfer to a child arriving from abroad |
Before travel: entry, visa and consent for the journey
Before buying travel, check the child’s entry requirements according to the document’s nationality and type and the purpose of residence, including exemption or the appropriate visa through the competent Turkish mission. Family reunification appears among visa purposes, but this does not impose one uniform visa on every child regardless of circumstances. Do not assume eligibility for a tourist e-Visa alone resolves a plan to settle with family.
Entry permission and the residence decision are different. A visa does not guarantee admission at the border or approval of family residence. Eligibility for family residence likewise does not remove entry requirements. Check passport validity for the journey, then for the residence period requested. The general residence-application rule is that the passport or substitute remains valid for 60 days beyond the requested period, subject to applicable instructions and exceptions.
For a minor’s visa application, visa instructions address the parents’ written consent and documented divorce, custody and death circumstances. This is separate from residence documents inside Türkiye. Also check requirements for leaving the child’s country, transit, the carrier and travelling with one parent. A custody document accepted for the residence file does not by itself settle every travel requirement.
- Identify the child’s nationality, travel document and actual purpose, then establish consular jurisdiction before paying.
- Arrange relationship, custody and consent documents before leaving the issuing country wherever authentication or certification is needed there.
- Coordinate with the sponsor in Türkiye on eligibility, the child’s accommodation and cover, and documents issued inside Türkiye.
- Make a timeline for entry, actual lawful stay and the residence application. Do not assume arrival at the family home starts a new residence permit.
Who can sponsor, and which children can qualify?
Subject to their conditions, family-residence provisions allow a sponsor to be a Turkish citizen, someone covered by Article 28 of Citizenship Law 5901, a foreign residence-permit holder, a refugee or a subsidiary protection beneficiary within the specified legal meaning. Do not equate every protection status with those categories or consider every visitor or person temporarily present an eligible sponsor.
The child category covers the sponsor’s or their spouse’s foreign minor child, and a foreign dependent child where that category is established. If the sponsor is the spouse of the child’s father or mother, prepare the documents legally connecting all three people. The couple’s marriage certificate alone does not replace evidence connecting the child to their parent or the child’s custody documents.
Under the applicable provisions, the sponsor must meet relevant requirements for resources, accommodation, family health cover, a criminal record within the specified scope, address registration and residence duration where required. Possessing the sponsor’s papers does not guarantee a particular person’s eligibility merely because they hold one of the cards mentioned.
The sponsor’s one-year residence condition and the child’s possible permit duration
The general route for a foreign sponsor includes at least one year of residence in Türkiye on residence permission. Specified exceptions include scientific-research residence holders, work-permit holders, people covered by Article 28 of Citizenship Law 5901 and foreigners married to Turkish citizens under the provision. An exception to the one-year condition does not remove the other requirements or mean one year of marriage instead of residence. A Turkish citizen is not a foreign residence-permit holder required to complete a year on a foreign national’s permit.
Family residence may be issued for up to three years at a time and cannot, in any case, exceed the foreign sponsor’s residence-permission duration. This is a ceiling, not a promise of three years for the child. Travel-document validity, the period requested, the decision and family circumstances affect the final duration.
If the sponsor’s permission is close to expiry, plan renewal or regularisation of their status alongside the child’s file as instructed. Do not use an expired card or an unresolved appointment alone as evidence of valid residence. Prepare the document establishing the sponsor’s actual status at the child’s application stage.
Custody, consent and evidence of the relationship
Start with the actual legal position, not solely who will accompany the child on the flight. On divorce, the family-residence checklist requires an authenticated custody document. Where custody is shared or the other parent retains access or visitation rights, it specifies that parent’s authenticated consent. Read the complete operative terms of the judgment. Describing custody as sole does not automatically mean the other parent has no visitation rights under the order.
If a parent has died, the authenticated death certificate is the applicable document. A legal declaration of absence requires the document establishing it; this differs from simply being unable to contact a parent or that parent travelling. For birth outside marriage, evidence of sole-parent or custody status appears according to the circumstances. Do not infer a general parentage rule or consent exemption from this.
The checklist specifies an authenticated birth certificate where the mother and father cannot be identified from the passport, travel document or national identity document. Establish the relationship clearly according to the file. Do not omit evidence requested by the authority, or turn this provision into a birth-certificate requirement imposed identically on every child despite the parents being clear in the specified documents. Unusual names, nationality or judgments may require further evidence.
If required consent or another necessary document is unavailable, present the circumstances, judgment and reason to the competent authority before travel or the deadline. Do not replace a missing signature with another person’s signature or an unrequested undertaking, or treat parental silence as legal consent.
| Circumstance | Applicable document or check | Preparation stage |
|---|---|---|
| Parents’ identities are unclear in identity documents | Authenticated birth certificate and any relationship evidence the authority requests | Before travel, then in the residence file |
| Parents are divorced | Authenticated custody judgment or document, including all relevant operative parts | Before preparing travel and residence consent |
| Shared custody or the other parent’s visitation rights | The other parent’s authenticated consent under the checklist and judgment | Before travel and residence-file submission |
| A parent has died | Authenticated death certificate | When preparing documents for the circumstances |
| Legal declaration of absence | Authenticated document establishing the declaration | Before relying on this basis |
| Birth outside marriage or sole-parent situation | Appropriate status and custody evidence according to the authority’s guidance | Before finalising the file checklist |
| Child travelling with one parent or another accompanying person | Separate check of departure-country, transit, visa and carrier requirements | Before buying travel and departing |
The child’s documents: separate them from the sponsor’s papers
The application uses the child’s own details, with the applicant, legal representative or attorney holding a power of attorney signing as instructed. Do not substitute the sponsor’s identity because the sponsor is completing the form. Keep originals for the appointment and organise clear copies.
The following preparation list is based on the family-residence file, supplemented by documents arising from the child’s circumstances and application. It is not a requirement to collect every alternative, nor evidence of advance approval.
| Group | What to prepare for the child | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Application | Residence form signed by the person with the proper capacity, with its references | Signature and representation depend on age, legal capacity and authorisation |
| Passport or substitute | Copies of identity, photograph and visa pages where applicable, with the original for comparison | Check name, number, nationality and document dates |
| Photographs | Two biometric photographs taken within six months, with a white background and ICAO specifications | The sponsor’s photograph is separate; do not substitute it for a child’s photograph |
| Family relationship | Evidence identifying the parents and relationship to the sponsor, and a birth certificate in the specified circumstances | The sponsor’s marriage document does not establish every detail about the child by itself |
| Custody and consent | Documents applicable to divorce, shared custody, visitation or other circumstances | Do not request every death, absence and custody scenario from everyone |
| Cover and payment | Evidence that accepted cover includes the child, and receipts for assessed charges | Payment of a fee alone does not complete the documents |
| Follow-up and application stage | Correct contact details, a file copy and submission evidence; UETS where applicable | The checklist specifies UETS for extension and transition, not universally for every initial application |
The sponsor’s documents, accommodation, income and insurance
The checklist specifies the sponsor’s presence during the application. A Turkish sponsor provides the original identity document and a copy. A foreign sponsor provides their travel document and copies and the residence/work document, card or status relied on, with originals according to the category. Prepare one biometric photograph of the sponsor, separate from the child’s two.
The income condition is a total of at least one minimum wage, with at least one third for each family member including the sponsor. Check the income basis the authority requires for your file. Do not assume net income, gross income or one uniform amount for every family without accounting for its size and the applicable criterion. Original evidence of regular resources is submitted. The checklist states that a written income declaration is sufficient evidence for a Turkish sponsor: this simplifies proof, rather than removing the financial-capacity condition.
The sponsor needs evidence of no convictions for offences against the family order within the preceding five years under the statutory condition. If they have not resided in Türkiye throughout the last five years, the checklist specifies a record from their country’s authorities. For someone resident in Türkiye throughout that period, it accepts a Turkish record from judicial authorities or e-Devlet as specified. The foreign record requires the appropriate translation and authentication. A temporary period of residence during those years does not satisfy this case, and this passage alone does not define an acceptable amount of absence. This is sponsor documentation: do not automatically transfer it to the child or adopt a universal validity period for the record or consent without instructions specific to them.
Family-residence insurance must cover all family members throughout the period. One accepted alternative suffices: coverage under a social security agreement, SGK entitlement, evidence of a GSS application or a suitable private policy. If existing cover already includes the child, prepare proof. Do not require a new separate policy unnecessarily or generalise an age exemption from another residence category’s checklist to all children in family residence. If choosing private insurance, prepare its first page bearing the policy number and evidence of the child’s entitlement under the policy. Observe the signatures, stamps or electronic verification required for the alternative selected.
| Sponsor’s file | Evidence to review | What not to confuse |
|---|---|---|
| Identity, status and presence | Turkish identity document or travel document and appropriate foreign status, with originals | Possessing the document does not replace sponsor eligibility |
| Income | Regular resources, family threshold and evidence appropriate to sponsor status | Simplified proof does not exempt the income condition |
| Record and photograph | The record within the required scope and one biometric photograph | This does not mean a criminal record for every child or two sponsor photographs under this provision |
| Insurance | Coverage of all family members for the period through an accepted alternative | Do not combine all alternatives or rely on an insurer’s name without cover for the child |
| Address and accommodation | Current address document with a bill or subscription and evidence of the actual home | A mailing address alone does not complete registration |
| Tenant, owner or hosted household | The actual accommodation alternative: title/address numbering, notarised rental or hosting under its conditions | This checklist does not require a separate rental contract in the child’s name |
Select evidence for the actual accommodation: for ownership, a copy of the title deed and the dwelling’s address-numbering document; for renting, a notarised copy of the contract containing the landlord’s details; for a hotel, evidence of the stay and a receipt covering the required accommodation period; and for student accommodation where applicable, its signed or electronic and stamped document as specified by the checklist. For hosting by others, provide the notarised undertaking from the host and their spouse if married, with a bill or subscription in the undertaking provider’s name. Do not collect every alternative or provide an address where the family does not live. This checklist does not establish a requirement for a separate contract in the child’s name.
Under Article 35(4), the conditions in Article 35(1) may be waived for a refugee or subsidiary protection beneficiary present in Türkiye. This is a discretionary provision for two legally specified categories, not an automatic exemption for every protection status or family. If the sponsor’s status is unclear, establish the category and applicable conditions with the competent authority before preparing a file for an unsuitable route.
Translation, authentication and matching names
Distinguish the document’s issuing country, type and place of use. A Turkish document used in this file needs its appropriate electronic signature or signature and stamp/seal; do not automatically require an apostille for use inside Türkiye. A foreign document follows the applicable notarised Turkish translation and apostille or alternative authentication route.
Where an apostille does not apply or is unavailable, the checklist describes authentication through the relevant consular authorities or embassy, foreign ministry or authorised Turkish authorities according to the circumstances, with notarised translation. Confirm the authentication sequence with the receiving authority before leaving the issuing country. One stamp or one consulate’s process is not a solution for every country.
Check spelling of the child’s and parents’ names, birth date, nationality and numbers across the passport, birth record, judgment, consent and translation. If a name or passport changed, keep evidence connecting the old and new details. Do not alter a translation or judgment image yourself to make details appear consistent. Resolve the discrepancy through the document’s issuing or certifying authority.
Keep a readable copy of the document, stamps and translation, but a digital copy does not remove the need for an original when requested for comparison. Do not impose a uniform validity period, such as three or six months, on all these documents without a provision specific to them or instructions for your file.
From arrival to residence-file submission
After entry through the appropriate route, arrange the application within the child’s actual lawful stay. Do not use the sponsor’s card expiry to determine the child’s deadline or transfer newborn-in-Türkiye arrangements to them. A ticket, accommodation evidence or an incomplete form does not issue residence permission or automatically extend stay.
Ordinary applications are made from inside Türkiye through e-İkamet, followed by the authority, appointment and submission arrangements specified for the application. Göç Randevu is not a universal alternative for creating a residence application. Prepare documents establishing the application stage and lawful stay if the appointment or completion is later, and resolve any uncertainty with the directorate before the period expires.
- Compare the child’s entry and document and the sponsor’s status with the eligibility checklist prepared before travel, and identify the correct application type.
- Create the application using the child’s details, travel document, address and correct representation, with a contact channel whose messages the family can monitor.
- Review the requested duration against the sponsor’s residence permission and child’s passport validity. Keep the reference, form, document checklist and appointment instructions.
- Organise the child’s file and sponsor’s papers into two clear groups. Check originals, authentication, presence and only the applicable alternatives.
- Review official assessments and any exemption or half-fee treatment that applies. Pay as instructed and keep receipts linked to the correct child.
- Attend with the child, sponsor or necessary representative according to file instructions. Submit documents, present originals for comparison and complete the procedure required for the circumstances.
- Keep submission evidence and record every missing item, notification, completion deadline and channel, with evidence of what the administration actually receives.
- Follow the decision, then the card and its details, and complete address registration and post-approval procedures. Do not treat card delivery as a new starting point for a deadline that has already begun.
Budget: the minor’s fee, card charge and other services
Separate the residence-permit fee (harç) from the residence-document charge, any applicable single-entry fee, and insurance, translation, authentication, photographs and private services. Liability and exemptions depend on nationality, category, entry method and transaction. Do not impose an entry fee on every child or promise complete exemption merely because of age.
The fee rule provides for half the basic fee for foreigners who have not reached 18, subject to any applicable exemption. This means half the applicable harç, not half the card charge or every expense for the child. Do not calculate the half from an intermediary’s invoice or the insurance-and-translation total, or replace a valid exemption with a half-fee assessment without a basis.
The residence-document charge for 2026 is TRY 964, separate from the residence-permit fee (harç), and the child’s age rule does not halve it. This is the document charge for this year alone, not the child’s entire file cost or a 2027 tariff. Use the official assessment for the child and the document’s year of issue, checking the amount, name and reference before payment. One child’s charges do not necessarily establish those for a sibling with different nationality, category or status. Do not transfer one year’s tariff to the next without verification.
| Cost item | What to check | What not to assume |
|---|---|---|
| Residence-permit fee: harç | The financial basis, exemption and half-fee treatment below 18 where applicable | That half the fee means complete exemption or half every invoice |
| Residence-document charge | TRY 964 for 2026 for the document alone, with a receipt for this item | That the half-harç rule halves the card charge |
| Single-entry fee, if applicable | The child’s entry method, exemption and official assessment | Automatically adding it for every child or initial application |
| Insurance | Proof that cover includes the child, or the cost of cover actually needed | Buying a new policy despite an accepted alternative already covering the child |
| Documents, translation, authentication and photographs | Document type and number, authentication sequence and service quotation | One national price for every family or half the cost because of age |
The e-İkamet application and official appointment booking are free. Document or permit charges do not make a private company the decision-maker. If payment has not appeared, keep the reference and clarify the status before paying again. Buying a private service does not guarantee approval.
Missing documents, assessment, decision and card
The general 90-day assessment period starts when all information and documents have been submitted to the competent authority, with notification if the period is extended. It is not a guaranteed postal-delivery time for the card and does not start merely by saving an incomplete form.
Monitor messages, e-İkamet and notifications for the application. For missing items, record the document, required form, deadline and submission channel. The regulatory completion rule is 30 days from notification, with removal from processing if not completed. Follow the deadline in your notice and do not assume a general enquiry call extends it.
If a judgment, consent or foreign document cannot be issued, present the reason and evidence to the authority and seek guidance before the deadline, without assuming an alternative or extension will be accepted. Do not submit another child’s document or consent that does not cover the required circumstances.
On approval, check the child’s details, permit type, duration, identity and address, separating the decision from printing and post. On refusal, keep the complete decision and notification evidence, and understand the review route, deadline and child’s lawful status. Refusal of family residence is not automatically a removal decision, and an objection does not automatically confer a new right to stay.
| Stage | What to keep | Why? |
|---|---|---|
| Application creation | Reference, form and details used | Identify the child’s number and correct contact channel |
| File submission | Submission evidence and list of documents provided | Establish when the documents became complete |
| Missing-item request and completion | Notification, its date and evidence of submitting the supplement | Track the deadline without relying on memory |
| Decision | Complete copy and notification evidence | Understand the outcome, obligations and review routes |
| Card and post | Delivery reference and checks of name, duration and category | Address postal problems without mistaking them for absence of a decision |
After approval: address, school and personal details
The family-residence checklist specifies address registration within 20 working days after approval of an initial application. Extension and transition require address registration as specified by the checklist. Accommodation evidence used to prepare the file does not mean the child’s address registration completed automatically. Keep proof of the correct registration and check how a move or province change affects the child’s and sponsor’s records.
Family residence allows primary and secondary education up to age 18 without a separate student residence permit for that purpose. It does not automatically enrol the child in a particular school. Admission, transfer, educational documents and the local authority have their own procedures. Arrange the school file after identifying lawful status, and do not substitute school enrolment for the residence application.
If family residence does not apply and the purpose is education, an appropriate primary- or secondary-education student route may exist, subject to care, expense and parental/legal-representative consent conditions and the authority’s assessment. A child’s student permit does not automatically give parents or relatives residence rights.
When the child’s passport, name or family details change, keep connecting evidence and update the record through the appropriate route. If the card is lost or delayed, follow the official process using the application reference. A police loss report alone is not travel permission or a guarantee of return.
Renewal, travel and changes in family circumstances
Start renewal from 60 days before permit expiry and, in all cases, before it expires. Recheck the child’s and sponsor’s eligibility and current documents: family circumstances, accommodation, cover, income and sponsor status, not just a copy of an old card. UETS is specified in the extension and transition checklist. Provide what the file requires without applying it universally to every initial application.
Before travel during assessment of the child’s application, establish the document covering stay and travel and the status of any previous permit. A printed form or payment receipt alone is not general travel authorisation. The established route involves the directorate-approved residence application document, required fees or exemption and conditions, and returning within 15 days on each trip to use that procedure. Beyond that, general visa rules apply. The minor’s travel documents and consents remain a separate matter.
If the sponsor’s status ends or changes, the sponsor dies, custody changes or the family moves, do not assume every arrangement continues automatically or every card is cancelled without a decision. Identify the change, notify the authority and establish the next route before lawful status expires. On the sponsor’s death, a person previously linked through family residence may be able to apply for short-term residence without a duration condition. This is an assessed application, not an automatic switch.
Review the category early as age 18 approaches. Someone reaching 18 who has held family residence for at least three years may apply to switch to short-term residence under its conditions. This does not mean every adult remains in the child category. Dependency of an adult child requires separate assessment. Do not promise automatic renewal because of university attendance or because the parents remain in Türkiye.
| What changed? | What to review immediately | What not to do automatically |
|---|---|---|
| Child’s or sponsor’s permission nearing expiry | Renewal window, sponsor eligibility, duration and documents | Wait until status expires, then rely on an old appointment |
| Reaching 18 | Previous family-residence duration and the next category or dependency evidence | Renew the minor category or switch without an application |
| Divorce or changes in custody or visitation rights | New judgment, consent and connection to the accommodation and sponsor | Treat a spoken agreement as enough to change the file |
| Sponsor’s death | The document, existing status and possible appropriate alternative route | Assert permanent continuation or automatic termination without review |
| Travel before the card is issued | Approved document, return conditions and minor-travel requirements | Travel with a printed application or loss report alone |
| New home, province or passport | Updating the child’s and sponsor’s details and address registration | Use old details because the card has not expired |
Resolve practical problems before they become missing items
If a name differs between the passport, birth certificate or custody document, identify whether it is spelling, a legal change or an issuing error. Then prepare connecting evidence or obtain correction from the competent authority. Do not open another application with conflicting details simply to bypass an error message.
If the system does not match insurance, confirm that the cover and details concern the child and that the insurer, policy number, renewal and start/end dates are correct. Contact the coverage issuer about an error. Do not use the sponsor’s policy in the child’s field on the assumption that the sponsor’s name alone replaces proof that the child is covered.
If the other parent is not accompanying the child, first check custody and visitation rights and the separate documents required for travel, visa and residence. Non-accompaniment alone does not impose one uniform document, nor does sole custody always remove every consent requirement regardless of the other parent’s remaining rights.
If the sponsor fails a condition or their entry/status does not qualify, resolving the route matters more than adding documents. A school, rental contract or relative’s undertaking alone does not replace an appropriate residence condition. Seek assessment of an alternative matching the purpose of stay instead of submitting an application you know does not describe the family accurately.
Two educational examples of preparing the circumstances
Example one: a 10-year-old child is arriving to join a foreign father who has held permission for two years, with 14 months remaining. Parental agreement and relationship documents do not automatically give the child three years. Sponsor conditions and the other eligibility requirements are examined, and family residence cannot exceed the foreign sponsor’s permission. The family prepares the child’s document and two photographs, sponsor’s papers and one photograph, proof of the child’s cover, accommodation and relationship, then follows the correct entry and application route. This illustrates preparation, not approval or a promise of 14 months.
Example two: a girl is joining her mother following the parents’ divorce. The judgment gives the mother custody but retains the father’s visitation rights. The family should not reduce the file to ‘the mother has custody’. Read the judgment, prepare the father’s authenticated consent where the visitation-right condition applies, and separately check visa documents and departure requirements in the child’s country. If contact with the father is lost, that alone does not become a legal absence certificate or implied consent. Guidance is needed from the competent authority on evidence establishing the circumstances.
Final checks before travel, submission and renewal
Before travel: are the child’s nationality, document, journey purpose and entry route clear? Are relationship, custody, consent and foreign authentication documents ready, and does sponsor status support the intended route?
Before submission: is the application in the child’s name, is the requested duration consistent with the passport and sponsor, are the child’s two photographs, sponsor’s photograph and originals present, does cover include the family, are address, accommodation and financial assessments correct, and is every applicable case-specific document included?
After submission: are you monitoring contact channels and keeping missing-item requests, completion evidence, the decision and card? After approval, has the address been registered, the school file arranged and the child’s details checked? Set reminders for permit renewal and review of the child’s status at 18 or when family circumstances change.
Seek help through YİMER 157, the directorate or the mission within each body’s remit. Describe the circumstances clearly without publishing passports, custody judgments or the child’s personal details. The passport, newborn, spouses, permit-transition, insurance and card guides complement this process. Use the relevant guide to resolve a specific issue instead of repeating a transaction that does not concern the child.
Frequently asked questions
Does a child automatically get residence because a parent is resident?
No. Permit category, sponsor and child eligibility, relationship and documents are assessed. The child has a separate application and document appropriate to their circumstances.
Is this guide for a baby born in Türkiye?
No. It focuses on a foreign child arriving from abroad. The newborn-in-Türkiye guide connects birth, registration, passport, parents’ status and the application. Do not transfer its arrangements to an arriving child.
Does a Turkish child need a foreign national’s residence permit?
Start with citizenship evidence and Turkish documents if the child is Turkish, or resolve an unclear citizenship position with the competent authority. Do not assume a foreign-residence application merely because the birth was abroad.
Does every child need a family-reunification visa?
This guide imposes no uniform condition for everyone. Before travel, check nationality, document, purpose and exemption or the appropriate visa with the mission. Do not assume a tourist e-Visa is sufficient for settlement.
Is one parent attending always sufficient?
The file depends on representation, custody, consent and the required presence of the sponsor and child. Travel, visa and residence documents are checked separately. Non-accompaniment alone does not settle every condition.
Does sole custody always remove the need for the other parent’s consent?
Do not generalise. Check the judgment and visitation rights. The family checklist specifies the other parent’s consent for shared custody or retained access/visitation rights; travel instructions may differ.
Is a birth certificate required identically from everyone?
The checklist specifies an authenticated certificate where the parents cannot be identified from the specified identity documents. Further relationship evidence may be needed for the file. Do not neglect proof or impose one scenario on everyone.
How many photographs should I prepare?
The family-residence checklist specifies two biometric photographs for the child applicant and one for the sponsor, meeting the required recency and specifications. Do not substitute one person’s photograph for the other’s.
Is every child under 18 exempt from insurance?
Do not infer this from age or another category’s checklist. Family residence needs accepted cover for all family members. If existing cover includes the child, prepare evidence.
Is the child exempt from all fees?
Not automatically. Under-18s pay half the basic harç under the rule, subject to an applicable exemption. This does not halve the card charge, insurance, translation or all other costs. The 2026 document charge is TRY 964, separate from harç. Do not treat it as the total cost or carry it into a later year.
Does family residence always grant three years?
Three years is a ceiling per issue, not a guarantee. It cannot exceed a foreign sponsor’s residence duration, and the travel document, request and decision also matter.
Does the child need a separate rental contract in their name?
The family checklist does not establish a universal condition of this kind. Prepare evidence of the actual family home, address registration and the applicable alternative, not an artificial contract for the child.
Is UETS required for every initial application?
The family checklist specifies it for extension and transition. Follow the child’s application and transaction-stage requirements instead of generalising it to initial applications without a basis.
When do I register the address after initial approval?
The checklist specifies 20 working days after approval for address registration on an initial application. Extension and transition require registration under their requirements.
Does a schoolchild with family residence need a student permit?
Family residence allows primary and secondary education up to 18 without a separate student permit for that purpose; school-enrolment procedures remain separate. If family residence does not apply, check the appropriate student route and conditions.
Does every adult child remain dependent?
No. Dependency is a category needing evidence and assessment, not settled simply by kinship or university attendance. Review the route as 18 approaches instead of assuming the minor category continues.
When should I start renewal?
From 60 days before permit expiry and always before it expires, rechecking the child’s and sponsor’s status and current documents.
Can the child travel while awaiting the result with a printed application?
Do not rely on the printout or receipt alone. Establish the approved document, stay/return conditions and consent for the minor’s travel before departure.
Does 90 days mean the card is certain to arrive?
No. It is the general assessment period for a complete file, with notification if extended, not a guarantee of printing or post. Track the decision and card stages separately.
