This is the English editorial edition of a 2025 guide, reviewed on 8 October 2026.

Travel health insurance can protect visitors against eligible unexpected medical expenses during a trip to Türkiye. The right policy depends on nationality, visa requirements, the journey and the cover purchased.

Editorial clarification, 8 October 2026: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs requires visa applicants to hold medical insurance valid for their stay. This does not establish a new universal 2025 insurance entry rule for every visa-exempt visitor. Check the requirements that apply to your nationality and application. The prices below are unverified figures from the original 2025 guide, not current quotations.

Why arrange travel health insurance?

It can meet an applicable visa requirement and help with covered emergency treatment costs. A tour operator, hotel or other travel provider may also have its own contractual requirements; these should be checked with that provider.

Choose a policy covering a visitor’s stay in Türkiye. An outbound policy sold in Türkiye for residents travelling abroad may not cover an incoming visitor.

Types of policy

  • Single-trip cover: For the stated journey and dates; a 7–90-day trip is an illustration, not a guaranteed duration offered by every insurer.
  • Annual multi-trip cover: For more than one journey, usually with a maximum duration for each trip. A year-long policy does not automatically cover a continuous year abroad.
  • Family cover: For eligible family members under the insurer’s definitions and conditions.

What may be covered?

Depending on the wording, benefits may include eligible accident or emergency medical care, ambulance transport, hospital treatment and medically necessary tests, within limits and subject to conditions.

Pre-existing conditions, pregnancy, dental treatment and cosmetic treatment require particular attention. Their treatment under the policy varies; do not assume either that all such care is covered or that every policy excludes it in the same way.

Prices quoted in the original 2025 guide

  • One week: TRY 400–700.
  • One month: TRY 700–1,200.
  • Three months: TRY 1,200–2,500.
  • Annual cover: TRY 3,500–6,000.
These figures have not been verified as a historical tariff and must not be used as an October 2026 price estimate. Obtain a current written quote stating the insured person’s age, trip dates, territory, benefits and exclusions.

How to buy

  1. Use a licensed insurer or authorised intermediary and select cover for an incoming visitor to Türkiye.
  2. Provide the passport details, date of birth and exact travel dates requested.
  3. Check the territory, medical benefits, limits, exclusions and assistance arrangements.
  4. Pay through a method the insurer accepts. Card or Papara payment is not available with every provider.
  5. After acceptance and issue, check the policy details and keep the PDF and a printed copy where required.
The 2025 guide named Allianz, Sompo Japan, Mapfre, Quick, Groupama and, in its purchasing examples, Gulf. These are retained as names appearing in that guide, not as verified current legal names, recommendations or confirmation that each offers a suitable policy today. Verify the present insurer, authorisation and product before paying.

Can insurance issued abroad be used?

It may satisfy an applicable visa or travel requirement if it meets the authority’s conditions, including Türkiye as a covered destination, the dates and required benefits. Ask the relevant consulate whether any translation or additional evidence is required. A foreign policy is not automatically accepted simply because the insurer operates internationally.

Residence-permit insurance is a separate matter with its own accepted evidence and requirements; a travel policy does not automatically qualify or convert into residence cover.

Common questions

Is insurance required for an e-Visa? Check the official application conditions for your nationality. Additional requirements appear after selecting the travel document country and dates; they are not identical for every applicant.

Can I use any private hospital? Check the network, emergency procedure, prior-authorisation requirements and whether the insurer pays directly or you must claim reimbursement. Network restrictions and out-of-network benefits vary.

Can I buy it at the airport? Do not assume a suitable product or sales desk will be available. Arrange cover before departure where possible and verify the start time.

Can I extend it or use it for residence? An extension depends on the insurer’s acceptance and conditions. For a residence application, obtain proof meeting the separate residence requirements rather than assuming a travel-policy extension is sufficient.

Practical tips

Keep the policy PDF, a paper copy where useful, and the insurer’s assistance number. Contact the insurer when its procedures require it and circumstances allow, but do not delay urgent medical help to obtain an approval.

The original guide mentions Acıbadem and Memorial among private hospital examples. Ask the insurer about the particular hospital and treatment; the name does not establish network membership or immediate free treatment. Keep invoices and clinical documents for any claim.
