👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Family rooms: one label, very different layouts

A “family room” may be a single room with a sofa bed, two rooms joined by an internal door, or an apartment with a living room and kitchen. Start with sleeping arrangements rather than the size suggested by a photograph. Who needs a separate bed? Do the children go to sleep early? Will everyone need the bathroom before an early excursion? A family of five may be more comfortable with two rooms and two bathrooms than a large suite with only one bed.

🏨 Three examples that show the differences

🏖️ Rixos Premium Belek
The official Deluxe Family Room description gives 74 m², two bedrooms, two bathrooms and two balconies. These features can help when bedtimes differ or mornings are busy. Still enter every child's age: the word “family” cannot replace a confirmed occupancy allowance. Check the bed arrangement and the final party size accepted by the booking system, and whether an extra bed is included. The page's descriptive and numeric occupancy figures differ, making written confirmation particularly useful.

🏙️ Hilton Istanbul Bomonti
The hotel advertises connecting rooms and confirmed connecting-room arrangements. Choose the booking option that confirms the connection and keep the confirmation. Requesting adjacent rooms in the notes does not establish that they have an internal door. Ask about a cot before arrival and compare the two-room cost with breakfast for every family member included.

🛋️ Marriott Executive Apartments Istanbul Fulya
Apartments offer different bedroom counts, living space and equipped kitchens, giving you somewhere to sit and eat away from the beds. Open the exact category description: a studio is not a two-bedroom apartment. Published housekeeping is twice weekly; ask about extra cleaning charges and laundry equipment in your apartment.

🔎 Small details that change the experience

🛏️ Request photographs of the actual category and a floor plan if available. “Sleeps five” might include a baby without an extra bed, while you need five separate sleeping places. Decide who will share rather than leaving that decision until reception.

🚪 Distinguish connecting from adjoining rooms. Connecting means an internal connection; adjoining may mean only next door. Ask whether the children's door opens onto a public corridor and whether the connecting door can be controlled from both sides.

🧳 Calculate usable space once the sofa bed and suitcases are open. A dining table and living room may be more useful than a large balcony counted in the advertised area.

🪟 Check window and balcony locks for your children's needs. A room opening directly onto a pool needs different supervision arrangements from a room inside the building; attractive photographs do not explain this.

🍽️ Request the total including breakfast, extra beds and taxes. Children's offers may have age limits, and adding an older child can change the price.

✉️ An enquiry to send before paying

“We are (...) adults and (...) children aged (...). We need (...) actual sleeping places and (...) separate bedrooms. Please confirm bed types, bathroom count, internal connections between rooms, breakfast and extra-bed charges, and send photographs of the category we will book.”

💡 If your children sleep early, prioritise a door separating sleeping and living areas. For a short stay spent mostly out, a simpler category may suffice if all sleeping places are confirmed and comfortable.
