Tourism remained a major source of foreign-currency earnings for Türkiye in 2025. In the figures announced by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism on 31 October 2025, the country recorded almost 50 million visitors and approximately $50 billion in tourism revenue during the first nine months of the year.
The headline figures
Visitors in January–September 2025: approximately 49.993 million, compared with 49.181 million in the same period of 2024. This total includes Turkish citizens resident abroad, as well as foreign visitors.Visitor numbers increased by approximately 1.6% compared with the same period in 2024.
Tourism revenue reached approximately $50 billion, up 5.7% year on year.
The average stay was approximately 10.3 days, according to the ministry’s briefing.
Average expenditure per person per night was $103 across all visitors and $116 for foreign visitors. These are separate measures and should not be confused with total spending per trip.
Türkiye’s principal tourism markets
Russia, Germany and the United Kingdom were the three largest source markets identified in the announcement, with approximately 5.53 million, 5.22 million and 3.54 million visitors respectively. Balkan countries are also relevant regional markets, although the release does not rank them collectively above those three countries.Diversification beyond established markets remains relevant to the sector, including the Gulf, Eastern Europe and Latin America. The headline release does not provide separate growth figures for all these groups, so it does not establish a uniform increase across them.
Popular destinations include İstanbul, Antalya, Muğla’s Bodrum and Marmaris resorts, Trabzon and Cappadocia.
How tourism affects the economy
Foreign-currency earnings from tourism can help finance the current-account balance, although the overall balance also depends on trade and other flows.Visitor spending supports:
Hotels and resorts.
Restaurants and cafés.
Airlines and tourism transport services.
Retail businesses, including shops and souvenir sellers.
Tourism demand can also encourage investment in airports, motorways and marinas. The return on individual projects depends on demand, costs and financing.
What do these figures mean for visitors and residents?
High seasons, including summer, major holidays and New Year, can bring larger crowds and higher prices in popular destinations.Spring and autumn may offer better value and more availability, depending on the destination, weather and event calendar.
A busy tourism sector can create opportunities in tourism and related services for residents, although demand and employment are seasonal and vary by location.
These figures describe January–September 2025; they are historical figures, not current-year statistics.
