Türkiye’s 2. Lig 2026–2027: White and Red Groups, Promotion and Play-offs

Following a historic club outside Türkiye’s top two divisions, or looking for competitive football near your city? 2. Lig is the third tier of the professional pyramid. This guide explains the groups, participating clubs and promotion route, including the exception that leaves the groups with different sizes in 2026–2027. Information was checked on 28 October 2026; the club list is not a live ranking.

⁦1️⃣⁩ Where 2. Lig fits and why group sizes differ

The division sits below 1. Lig and above 3. Lig. Its number therefore does not mean it is the country’s second tier. Competition is divided into Beyaz, the White Group, and Kırmızı, the Red Group. Each has its own table, with home-and-away matches against teams in the same group.

The original statute provided for 36 clubs in two groups of 18. Temporary Article 1 subsequently addressed Altınordu’s non-participation. White has 18 participating clubs and Red 17, making 35 actually playing. The amendment, effective on 10 July 2026, also changes the Red Group’s relegation arrangements.

From those group sizes, White clubs have 34 regular-season games and Red clubs 32, with byes in the latter programme. These totals are calculated from a double round robin and exclude cup games and play-offs. A club marked bay has a round off; that is neither a defeat nor a cancelled fixture.

GroupParticipating clubsRegular-season games per club
Beyaz / White1834; twice against 17 opponents
Kırmızı / Red17 following the Altınordu exception32; byes because the group has an odd number

⁦2️⃣⁩ Find your club’s group before reading its position

The list uses shortened names of the clubs in the season tables when checked. TFF programmes can include sponsors and legal company names. Keep the Turkish name and group when searching, especially where different clubs share a city. The list describes membership, not points or strength.

For example, Red Group İnegölspor is different from White Group İnegöl Kafkas Spor; Adana 01 and Adana Demirspor are also separate clubs. Historical prominence does not determine a present division. Match the club identity, group and season before attributing a fixture or promotion story.

⁦3️⃣⁩ Four promotion places and a relegation exception

Each group’s regular-season champion is promoted directly to 1. Lig. The clubs finishing second, third, fourth and fifth enter their group’s play-offs. The winner of each group final also goes up, giving four promoted clubs altogether: two champions and two play-off winners.

In White, the clubs finishing 16th, 17th and 18th are relegated to 3. Lig. For Red, the temporary article relegates non-participating Altınordu and specifies the bottom two participating clubs at season end. Applying “the bottom three” unchanged to Red’s 17-team table would misrepresent this exception.

An October position is provisional. Fifth place puts a club inside the play-off zone in that snapshot, without guaranteeing qualification. Consider remaining and outstanding matches and points decisions before describing promotion or relegation as settled.

⁦4️⃣⁩ The play-off route within each group

Second plays fifth, and third plays fourth, over two legs within the same group. The fifth- and fourth-placed clubs host the first legs; the higher-placed teams host the return games. The two winners meet in a single final at a neutral venue selected by the federation.

When wins or draws are equal over the two games, the team with more aggregate goals advances. If goals are also level, two 15-minute extra-time periods follow the second leg, then penalties if needed. Do not add an away-goals advantage from another competition.

A drawn final also goes to extra time and then penalties. As an illustration, fifth in White must beat second in White and win its group final; it does not await fifth in Red. The 2. Lig route differs from 1. Lig, so do not import a direct place in the final from the higher division.

Final outcomeWinner promoted to 1. LigSeparate final for each group; two additional promotion places

⁦5️⃣⁩ Read the group table and points carefully

Select the 2026–2027 season and the correct group first. In Red, games played can differ because of a bye even without a postponement. A club with fewer games has not necessarily had a match cancelled or received a penalty. Compare its matches played and points with rivals in the same group.

TFF displays points deductions separately. If the points total does not match the wins-and-draws calculation, inspect the deduction field and relevant decision rather than inventing a financial or disciplinary explanation. A visible goal difference is not, by itself, a final ruling on a tie-break; the governing rules and relevant meetings matter.

Record the date and round covered. Combining White and Red into one table does not identify promotion: each group has its own champion and play-off route. Turkish Cup results belong to a different competition.

⁦6️⃣⁩ Follow the correct fixture or broadcast

Open the 2. Lig programme, select Beyaz or Kırmızı and the required round, then check both clubs, kick-off and stadium. The first-listed club is the scheduled host, but the actual venue matters more than assumptions about its usual city or ground.

The federation can change the day, time and venue, and stadium use requires approval under the statute. Check match details and club announcements before booking. For television or streaming, verify the authorised coverage for that particular game and your location; an old video or club channel does not establish free coverage of the next fixture.

⁦7️⃣⁩ Plan a visit beyond the top-flight spotlight

Follow the host club’s admission announcement and designated seller. The statute provides for ticket or season-card access to stands; there is no single division-wide price. Check the category, current price and conditions for that match, including away supporters and children where relevant.

Plan transport around the confirmed ground and ask early about access, the appropriate entrance and assistance or companion arrangements. An approved alternative venue may be used. The archive photograph here identifies a sporting venue; it does not establish where a particular game will take place or today’s stand arrangements.

A useful routine is to save your club’s group, check its weekly programme and update the result after it is confirmed. When sharing a report, include 2. Lig, the group and season so readers can identify the competition and stage immediately.

⁦8️⃣⁩ Common questions

Is 2. Lig the second tier?
No. It is the third tier, below 1. Lig and above 3. Lig.

Why does Red have 17 clubs and White 18?
The 10 July 2026 amendment addressed Altınordu’s non-participation and provided for a 17-team Red schedule.

How many clubs are promoted to 1. Lig?
Four: each group champion and each group play-off final winner.

Do the two group play-off winners meet again?
No. Each group has its own final, whose winner is promoted.

Is a bye a defeat?
No. Bay means the club has no match in that round of the odd-sized group.
