📍 Location
Kayseri lies in Central Anatolia beneath the imposing volcanic mountain Erciyes. A major industrial and commercial city, it connects with other regional centres including Konya, Ankara and Niğde.

🏛️ Introduction
Kayseri combines a long trading history with a modern economy. Historic caravan routes helped shape its prosperity; today, industry and commerce sit alongside cultural sightseeing and seasonal mountain tourism.

🏰 Historic and cultural sights
Kayseri Castle stands in the centre, close to the Hunat Hatun complex, an important example of Seljuk architecture.

The Museum of Seljuk Civilisation introduces medieval Anatolian art and architectural culture. Historic caravanserais provide further insight into long-distance trade: Sultanhanı in Bünyan district, on the Kayseri–Sivas road, is a separate excursion, distinct from the similarly named caravanserai in Aksaray province.

🏔️ Erciyes and winter sports
Erciyes rises above 3,900 metres and is among Türkiye’s highest mountains. Its modern ski resort attracts winter visitors, while summer offers walking and climbing opportunities on appropriate routes.

Check resort operations, snow conditions and ticket categories before travelling. A visit to the resort or a viewpoint is different from a summit ascent, which requires mountaineering experience, suitable equipment and weather.

🍽️ Local food
Kayseri mantısı consists of small meat-filled dumplings, commonly served with garlic yoghurt and a seasoned topping. Sucuk, a spiced sausage, is another product strongly associated with the city.

Baklava and other sweets are widely available. Kaymak is clotted cream, usually an accompaniment rather than a dessert in its own right.

💼 Economy and contemporary life
Furniture, textiles and aviation-related industry contribute to Kayseri’s economy. Universities, including Erciyes University, add to its educational and social life.

Modern infrastructure and longstanding traditions coexist across the city’s commercial and residential districts.

💡 Planning a visit
  • Choose winter for skiing, subject to snow and resort conditions, or spring for lower-level countryside outings.
  • Browse the historic markets for carpets and traditional crafts, comparing quality and provenance.
  • Try mantı and sucuk at local restaurants and producers in the centre.
  • Visit an accessible Erciyes viewpoint for mountain scenery; plan any high-altitude climb separately.
