Datça and Bozburun 2026: bays, villages and history

Datça and Bozburun combine beaches, bays and coastal villages. Give each area time for walking, swimming and exploring its surroundings.

They are geographically distinct routes. Datça is a district and westward-reaching peninsula; Bozburun belongs to Marmaris district. If combining them, consider splitting your accommodation and check the actual roads between hotels and destinations.

Datça: the old town and Knidos

Begin on the waterfront in central Datça, then visit Eski Datça, with cobbled lanes, stone houses, cafés and small shops.

Knidos lies at the peninsula's western tip, reached by a winding road from the centre. Its remains include a sea-facing theatre and the site of the Temple of Aphrodite. Give it a separate block of time, and check entry hours before setting out, particularly if you hope to remain until near sunset.

Choose another day for Palamutbükü or other peninsula bays, according to your accommodation, sea conditions and required facilities.

Bozburun and Selimiye: harbours and coastal accommodation

Bozburun is associated with harbours, boats and marine tourism, with Selimiye and Söğüt as further stops around the area. Accommodation ranges from properties near harbours to those around smaller bays.

Before booking, ask whether sea access is from a beach or pier, and check parking and nearby restaurants. For a quiet stay, assess the property, its surroundings and the season. A small number of rooms alone does not establish how peaceful or uncrowded it will be.

Protected bays: what this means for visitors

Large parts of the area lie within the Datça–Bozburun Special Environmental Protection Area. The coast contains sensitive habitats, bays and archaeological sites, alongside villages supported by farming, fishing and tourism services.

Use permitted access points and paths, and follow local mooring and swimming instructions. Take your rubbish away from bays without waste-collection facilities.

Muğla's 2026 restrictions prohibit entry to designated forest areas from 1 June to 31 October, covering areas in Datça and around Marmaris. Check your intended route before planning a forest walk.

Arriving by road and sea

Datça can be reached by road via Marmaris. A Bodrum–Datça ferry service also operates; the operator identifies Kairos Marina at Körmen as the departure port from Datça to Bodrum.

The port is separate from central Datça, so include the transfer in your journey plan. Check operation on your travel date, vehicle availability if taking a car, and booking and cancellation conditions. Weather can affect sailings.

A suggested four-day itinerary
  • Day one: central Datça, Eski Datça and a seaside walk.
  • Day two: Knidos, with a coastal stop if time allows.
  • Day three: transfer to the Bozburun area and explore around your accommodation.
  • Day four: Selimiye or Söğüt, or a boat trip suited to the weather.

Shorten this suggested plan by choosing one area. Outside the summer peak, confirm hotel services, restaurants and transport before finalising bookings.
