🏦 Open banking lets you view selected accounts in a participating app and use specific payment services with your consent. The March 2026 update added practical functions; availability still depends on the bank, app and account involved.

1️⃣ What changed in 2026?

The Central Bank of Turkey launched ÖHVPS 2.0.0 on 17 March 2026. The update introduced card information and transactions, future-dated payment initiation and recurring payment initiation. It therefore extends beyond viewing balances from several banks, although every app need not offer all the features immediately.

Look for Açık Bankacılık, or an option for accounts at other banks, in the app you already use. Check which banks and account types it supports before starting.

2️⃣ Understand the different permissions

ServiceWhat it enablesWhat to check
Account informationViewing information from an account you connectAccounts, data and consent duration
Card informationViewing covered card details and transactionsWhich cards you agree to share
Payment initiationGiving a payment instruction for an account elsewhereAmount, payee and debit account
Future-dated or recurring paymentsArranging a later or repeated paymentDate, frequency and end conditions

3️⃣ Connect an account carefully

📱 Select the bank holding the account, read the consent summary, and complete strong customer authentication with the account provider. Check the final screen before returning to the app that requested the connection.

Start with one account you actually need. Confirm its bank, currency and identifying details. If the balance looks outdated, check the last refresh time. An aggregated view does not replace the original bank statement when you need evidence of a payment.

4️⃣ A practical consent checklist

SituationUseful actionWhat to verify
Trying a new appSelect only the accounts neededNo unnecessary account connections
The service is no longer neededRevoke information-sharing consentThe connection disappears or changes status
Changing the rent accountReview connections and payment instructionsThe correct debit account is selected
A payment is scheduledCheck instructions before disconnectingWhich instructions remain or require separate cancellation

5️⃣ Data consent and payment instructions

🔐 Revoking data-sharing consent is not, by itself, proof that a scheduled transfer or separate payment authority has been cancelled. Check the instruction list and cancel any instructions you no longer want under the applicable service rules. Keep the cancellation confirmation or reference.

Never give a bank password or verification code to an employee or intermediary offering to connect your accounts. Consent belongs in the official authentication process.

Seeking assistance with an application

6️⃣ A useful everyday example

💡 If your salary arrives at one bank and rent comes from an account at another, viewing both accounts together may help. A supported future-dated payment service may also let you arrange rent from the appropriate account. These are separate capabilities: a balance dashboard does not automatically create a monthly rent instruction.

For foreign residents, account and service eligibility remain subject to the bank and app provider. A tax number or residence permit alone does not guarantee access to every connection process. Ask about your particular account.
