Fethiye, Ölüdeniz and Seydikemer 2026: sea, mountains and Lycian heritage

This route combines Fethiye, the coastal lagoon at Ölüdeniz and the natural and archaeological sites of Seydikemer. A single itinerary can include beaches, ancient remains and a gorge, provided visits are spread over enough days to enjoy each place.

Ölüdeniz belongs to Fethiye, while Seydikemer is a separate district of Muğla province. The distinction helps when searching for accommodation, excursions and local service offices.

Fethiye: a starting point for exploring

The waterfront and harbour provide an opportunity to walk and get to know the town before trips further afield. The Amyntas rock tombs are among Fethiye's ancient landmarks associated with Telmessos.

Allow a day for the centre and harbour. Visit Kayaköy separately or as part of a shorter route around nearby places. Its historic buildings offer a different experience from the beach; leave time to walk around and respect the site's boundaries.

Ölüdeniz and Babadağ: choosing an activity

Ölüdeniz is known for its protected lagoon, shades of blue water and the open beach at Belcekız. When booking, establish where the property lies in relation to the lagoon and beach, and whether it provides the facilities you need during the day.

Babadağ is associated with paragliding over the coast. Before booking, ask the operator about participation requirements, weather, cancellation terms and inclusions. A beach visit can be a separate activity for those who prefer swimming, walking and photography.

Seydikemer: Tlos and Saklıkent Gorge

Tlos adds Lycian heritage to the trip, while Saklıkent offers high rock walls and cold water. The district governorate describes the gorge as approximately 18 km long. This is the length of the natural formation, rather than a tourist trail fully accessible to every visitor.

Keep to open areas and follow site instructions. Consider water and weather conditions before venturing further into the gorge. Families should choose a visit suited to their children's walking ability and the terrain.

Visitor pressure and access in 2026

Allow extra time for journeys and parking at popular beaches and sites in peak season. Group nearby activities together, and check return services if relying on a dolmuş or bus.

Muğla's 2026 decision restricts access to designated forest areas from 1 June to 31 October. Before choosing a forest route, check the restricted boundaries and local signs, and use areas where visits are allowed.

A suggested three-day itinerary
  • Day one: central Fethiye, harbour and rock tombs, with time for a waterfront walk.
  • Day two: Ölüdeniz, with an optional airborne activity if conditions permit, or Kayaköy if time allows.
  • Day three: Tlos and Saklıkent, adjusted to opening hours and weather.

Choose central Fethiye if services and transport are the priority, or Ölüdeniz for a beach-focused trip. For a longer rural stay in Seydikemer, calculate the journey to each planned site before choosing accommodation.
