Rows of planted trees at the foot of a dry rocky hill.

⛰️ Göksun, Andırın, Çağlayancerit, Pazarcık and Türkoğlu 2026
Mountain roads, valleys and Kahramanmaraş's southern gateway

Beyond Kahramanmaraş city, the landscape ranges from cool uplands and wooded slopes to agricultural plains and roads linking Central Anatolia with the eastern Mediterranean. Göksun, Andırın, Çağlayancerit, Pazarcık and Türkoğlu reveal this variety through mountain drives, rural life, orchards and working towns.

These districts suit a flexible road trip more than a conventional resort holiday. Reconstruction following the February 2023 earthquakes also makes it important to check roads, visitor access and local services before travelling in 2026.

🏔️ Göksun: the province's north-western highlands

Göksun lies north-west of Kahramanmaraş, among mountains, grazing land and farming villages. Its higher elevation brings cooler summers and cold, snowy winters.

The Kahramanmaraş–Göksun road, with its tunnels and mountain scenery, is a distinctive part of the journey. Rocky slopes and valleys change considerably through the seasons: spring and early summer bring greener landscapes, while autumn adds colour to the countryside.

In winter, check for snow, ice and fog before setting out. Clear conditions in the city do not guarantee the same weather on higher roads.

🌿 What to do around Göksun

  • 🚗 Enjoy the mountain drive, stopping only at safe, authorised places.
  • 🥖 Explore town markets and bakeries and try local food.
  • 🏞️ Visit rural uplands when weather and road conditions permit.
  • 🍯 Look for locally produced dairy food, honey and home-made products.
  • ❄️ See snowy scenery in winter, subject to current road and weather warnings.

🌲 Andırın: forests, springs and quiet country roads

Andırın occupies the mountainous south-west of the province. Forests, springs, winding roads and villages give it a greener, quieter character than the surrounding plains.

The area also contains historic fortifications, many without extensive visitor facilities. Ask locally about access rather than assuming every ruin has a maintained path, parking or an organised entrance.

It is a rewarding area for nature photography and an unhurried drive. Take extra care on narrow roads, particularly in rain or fog, and allow more time than a map's distance alone suggests.

🌰 Çağlayancerit: orchards and walnut country

East of Kahramanmaraş, Çağlayancerit is associated with orchards and especially walnuts, an important part of its agricultural economy and local identity.

During the harvest, visitors can buy walnuts and other seasonal produce. Check their origin and harvest year when comparing products.

Summer conditions can be milder than on the plains, while winter brings cold weather and snow at higher elevations. A day trip works well when planned around the season and current road conditions.

🌾 Pazarcık: plains, the reservoir and regional roads

Pazarcık lies south-east of the provincial centre, on routes linking Kahramanmaraş with the south-east. Farming, villages and the Kartalkaya reservoir shape its surrounding landscape.

The district was severely affected by the February 2023 earthquakes. Reconstruction continues to affect journeys and everyday services in 2026. Respect barriers and damaged-site restrictions, and never enter abandoned or unsafe buildings.

Pazarcık can provide a practical stop on a journey towards Gaziantep or Adıyaman, with opportunities to eat locally and see rural life. Check current access arrangements before making a special trip to the reservoir.

🚛 Türkoğlu: Kahramanmaraş's southern gateway

South of the city, Türkoğlu connects with roads towards Gaziantep, Hatay and the eastern Mediterranean. Agricultural land, major roads, industry and logistics give the district a practical, working character.

It is useful as a road-trip stop and as a way to understand the province's production and transport links, rather than as a destination built around visitor attractions.

Earthquake damage and rebuilding can alter local road layouts. Follow current diversions and keep clear of construction areas in 2026.

🧭 A suggested two- or three-day route

  1. Day one: Drive towards Göksun through the tunnel route. Return to Kahramanmaraş or stay overnight, depending on weather and your onward plans.
  2. Day two: Explore Andırın and nearby forested countryside and villages.
  3. Day three: Visit Çağlayancerit, then include Pazarcık or Türkoğlu according to your next destination.

These districts are spread across a large area. Do not attempt to cover all of them in one day: mountain roads, stops and reconstruction can make the journey much longer than expected.

🚗 Driving advice for 2026

  • Check winter conditions carefully before driving towards Göksun or Andırın.
  • Refuel before taking remote rural roads.
  • Never stop for photographs inside tunnels or on bends.
  • Use designated lay-bys and other places where stopping is permitted.
  • Allow for diversions and construction traffic.
  • Download maps for use without a mobile connection.
  • Avoid muddy tracks after heavy rain; a route appearing on a map is not necessarily suitable for your vehicle.

🗓️ Choosing the season

  • Spring: Green valleys, fields and milder conditions for rural exploration.
  • Summer: Cooler uplands offer an alternative to the heat of lower areas.
  • Autumn: Forest colours and agricultural harvests add interest to the journey.
  • Winter: Snow can transform the scenery, but requires a suitable vehicle, winter equipment and frequent forecast checks.

⚠️ Practical notes

  • A car provides the greatest flexibility for this route.
  • Services become less frequent in remote areas; plan supplies in advance.
  • Carry drinking water and food for longer outings.
  • Respect private land, farms and village life.
  • Check drone permissions, especially near restricted infrastructure.
  • Telephone accommodation and restaurants beforehand to confirm that they are operating.

✨ Planning your journey

Göksun's highlands, Andırın's forests, Çağlayancerit's orchards, Pazarcık's plains and Türkoğlu's transport links reveal different sides of Kahramanmaraş. Together they offer a journey through nature, agriculture and everyday regional life.

Allow flexibility, check current access during reconstruction and choose a manageable route for the season. The reward is a broader understanding of the province beyond its central city.
