Türkiye's Mediterranean region, Akdeniz Bölgesi, offers a varied combination of coastal scenery, mountains and historic towns. Its southern coast extends from Antalya towards Hatay, bringing together blue seas, wooded uplands and a rich cultural inheritance.
Antalya, Mersin and Alanya are well-known coastal destinations. Across the region are beaches, old harbours and a wide range of hotels, including waterfront resorts.
The coast has a Mediterranean climate, with hot summers and generally mild, wetter winters; the Taurus Mountains are much colder at altitude. Wooded slopes, valleys, rivers and streams add variety to the landscape. Citrus fruit, olives and vegetables are important crops.
The region's history spans thousands of years, including Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman periods. Notable archaeological sites include Perge, Aspendos and Patara, each preserving important traces of antiquity.
