Almacı Pazarı, also called Elmacı Pazarı, is a place to take some of Gaziantep’s flavours home. Among the pistachios, spices and dried vegetables, comparing products matters more than buying large quantities in a hurry. Arrive with a short list, starting with ingredients you actually use in your kitchen.

📍 A food market on a historic city walk
This historic market sells spices and dried fruit and vegetables. Its goods include pistachios, mild and hot tomato or pepper pastes, and şire products made from grape juice. These specialities make it a different visit from shopping for clothes or buying cookware in the coppersmiths’ bazaar.

Save its full Turkish name on your map, and agree on a meeting point with your companions before entering the passages. Keep purchases light at the start so you are not carrying bags throughout your old city visit.

🥜 Choosing pistachios and dried foods
Compare like with like: pistachios in their shells or shelled, roasted or unroasted, salted or unsalted. Ask about the packing date and origin, and check their smell and texture if the seller offers a tasting. Buy a small quantity first if the variety is unfamiliar.

Dried vegetables vary in size and intended use. Tell the seller whether you want them for stuffing or cooking, and ask how to soak and store them. A lower price alone does not establish quality when weights or grades differ.

🧳 Packing purchases for the journey
Ask for sealed containers rather than open bags, and keep liquids away from clothing in your luggage. Glass needs separate protection; a small container is less likely to go to waste when you are trying a product for the first time.

Before buying large amounts of food, check your carrier’s conditions and the food import rules at your destination. Do not rely on a seller’s general assurance that everything can be transported. Keep labels and receipts, especially for products with several ingredients.

💡 Shopping at a relaxed pace
Ask to see the weight and final price, with any packaging charge shown separately. If buying several varieties, ask for each to be labelled: similar-looking blends can be difficult to tell apart once you get home.

A tasting does not oblige you to buy. Thank the seller, compare options and return to the one that suits you. If you have a nut allergy or cannot tolerate certain ingredients, ask directly about blends and shared utensils; a simple appearance does not establish that a product is safe for you.
