Antalya and Alanya Transport: Trams, Buses and Resort Transfers
Antalya and Alanya are among Türkiye's best-known coastal holiday destinations. Yet arriving at an all-inclusive resort does not necessarily make it obvious how to explore beyond it.
This guide introduces transport in Antalya and Alanya: trams, buses, dolmuş minibuses, airport connections and journeys between resorts and town.
Antalyakart: Antalya's transport card
- Antalyakart is the main public-transport card for Antalya's tram and municipal-bus network.
- Buying a card: use a card centre, authorised sales point or machine that sells cards. Not every top-up point sells new cards.
- Topping up at a machine: place the card where indicated, select the amount and use the payment method the particular machine accepts. Cash and bank-card availability can differ between devices and sales points.
- The official app and website also offer top-ups. An online payment is reflected on the physical card when it is presented to a supported validator or turnstile; check that the loading and boarding steps have succeeded.
Getting around Antalya
Trams
- Tram routes link parts of the city, with an airport branch and stops useful for the centre and bus terminal. Check the destination shown on the service: not every tram goes to the airport.
- Using Antalyakart is straightforward once you have the right route and direction. A tram can avoid some road traffic, although the complete journey still depends on connections and the walk at each end.
- Trams work particularly well if your hotel lies near a stop.
- For Kaleiçi, the old town, or the old harbour, identify the nearest suitable stop and the onward walk. A stop near the historic centre does not mean the tram takes you down to the harbour itself.
City buses
- Buses serve many neighbourhoods, including areas beyond the tram routes, and use Antalyakart on the participating municipal network.
- They can be useful between residential or hotel areas and the centre, or for an attraction that is not close to rail.
- Use the official Antalyakart route, stop and timetable information to check your journey. Google Maps can help where transit information is available, but confirm the actual stop, direction and service for your date.
- Your hotel can also help identify the nearest stop and the correct bus number for the centre and return journey.
Antalya Airport connections
Airport buses: city services connect the airport with key city destinations. You may need a further bus, tram or short taxi ride to reach your accommodation. Check the current route and departures rather than assuming a direct hotel service.
Tram: the airport branch can suit a hotel near the route, especially with manageable luggage. Confirm the airport-bound service and your terminal. International Terminal 1 and the Domestic Terminal are connected; Terminal 2 is separate, so allow for the airport's onward terminal connection where needed.
Taxis and private transfers: useful for resort destinations or a difficult final leg. Ask the hotel whether it offers an airport transfer and confirm the booking, charge, pickup point and luggage capacity before arrival. A hotel transfer should not be assumed to be included in the room rate.
Getting around Alanya
Alanya is smaller than Antalya, but the holiday season can bring busy roads and services.Local buses
- Services run along coastal corridors and between neighbourhoods, linking hotel areas, central Alanya and some shopping destinations.
- Check the actual route and final stop rather than assuming that every seafront hotel has a direct bus to every mall.
- Payment depends on the local service and its current arrangements. Ask your hotel or the operator which card or other method is accepted; do not assume that every Alanya bus uses the same rules as Antalya city's network.
Dolmuş minibuses
- A dolmuş is a shared minibus operating on a set route, often useful between neighbourhoods or resort areas and town.
- It can cost less than hiring a taxi for a short journey, provided its route and operating hours fit your plans.
- Confirm the destination, boarding point, accepted payment and return service locally before relying on it. Ask the hotel to explain the route if you are unfamiliar with the area.
Taxis and private transfers
- Both are common in a resort town, particularly for accommodation some distance from the centre.
- Ask your hotel for an approximate taxi cost to town or a known attraction. Confirm the meter procedure and known extras; an estimate is not a guaranteed final fare.
- Some hotels provide a free or paid shuttle to the centre at stated times. Check whether it operates during your stay, whether booking is needed and when the last return leaves.
Travelling between Antalya and Alanya
Intercity buses: compare published departures between the cities. Vehicle type, route, traffic and intermediate stops affect the journey. Check the exact bus terminal or boarding point and the onward journey to your hotel; a service between the cities is not automatically an airport-to-resort transfer.
Minibus or private transfer: tourist-transfer providers may offer a shared or private journey between Antalya and Alanya, including resort destinations. Confirm whether the quoted service reaches your actual accommodation and whether other pickups add time.
A private or hired car: useful if you want to visit beaches or villages along the way and set your own timetable. Stop only where parking and access are safe and permitted, rather than treating every stretch of coastline as a stopping place.
Choosing transport for your trip
Families with children:- At a resort, start by asking about its town shuttle.
- For the airport, compare a suitable taxi with a prearranged transfer, with a clear price basis and child-seat arrangements where required.
- Within town, buses plus a short taxi ride may work well if the route, luggage and children's needs fit.
Residents and students:- In Antalya, combine Antalyakart with the tram and bus network.
- In Alanya, compare local buses, dolmuş and walks around suitable streets near the seafront.
- Use a student or other discounted product only if you meet its eligibility and documentation requirements; a student travelling on holiday is not automatically entitled to it.
Solo travellers or friends:- Use Antalya's trams and buses where their routes fit the day.
- In Alanya, local buses and dolmuş can be useful for coastal travel, with a taxi for a late return or when the group is tired. Check the return options before setting out.
Common mistakes to avoid
Using taxis for every journey in Antalya: a suitable bus or tram can reduce costs on many routes. Keep a taxi in mind for heavy luggage, a late arrival or a destination poorly served at that time, rather than assuming either mode is always the best choice.
Overlooking the hotel's transport arrangements: ask whether a shuttle exists, what it costs, where it stops and its outward and return times. Some hotels offer one; others do not.
Booking an isolated hotel without checking access: a distant resort with no useful shuttle or local service can leave you dependent on taxis. Check the map and ask about the nearest bus or tram stop and any transfer service before booking.
Making the most of the coast:
Antalya and Alanya offer more than a resort and a beach. In Antalya, the transport card, trams and buses can make many city outings practical. In Alanya, local buses, dolmuş and an available hotel shuttle may cover the journeys you need, with a taxi or transfer for the gaps.
A little planning around the hotel's real location, the nearest stop and the return journey helps you spend more of the holiday budget on the coast and its attractions.
