Your first month in Türkiye can involve a long list of tasks: finding a flat, preparing documents, visiting public offices, arranging banking, and sorting out school or work. Well-chosen temporary accommodation gives you a base while you make those decisions.

Editorial clarification — 8 October 2026: A booking confirmation or accommodation invoice is useful evidence of a stay, but it is not automatically sufficient for address registration or a residence permit. The receiving authority decides which documents are required. Short-term tourism rentals of homes are also subject to permit rules, so check that the accommodation is offered lawfully.

1. Compare the main types of temporary accommodation

Hotel or aparthotel: Often convenient for a few nights or a short initial stay. Reception, cleaning and sometimes breakfast are available, although services vary. Compare a monthly quotation with other options rather than assuming the nightly rate is affordable for a whole month.

Temporary furnished flat: A possible option for a month or two, with a kitchen, washing machine and often internet. It can make cooking, laundry and family routines easier. Check what is actually included, who is offering the property and the applicable tourism-rental permission.

Staying with relatives or friends: This may reduce costs, but agree on the expected duration, contribution to expenses and household arrangements. Privacy and comfort depend on the people and available space.

2. Choose a useful base within the city

Prioritise access to the metro, Metrobus or useful bus routes, and to the neighbourhoods where you expect to look for a permanent home. If you have an immigration appointment, check its actual location rather than assuming any nearby public office handles your case.

Very expensive tourist areas can stretch the budget, while a remote bargain may add time and transport costs to every errand. Compare the full practical cost of the location.

3. Check the facilities you will use

• Kitchen: Usually helpful for a family or a stay of a month or more. For a brief visit, a hotel arrangement may be sufficient.
• Laundry: Confirm whether there is a washing machine or laundry service, and whether it costs extra.
• Workspace: If you need to work from the accommodation, look for a quiet place to sit and a reliable connection. Ask about internet quality rather than relying only on the word “Wi-Fi”.
• Everyday essentials: Confirm heating or cooling, hot water and the items shown in the listing before paying.

4. Give yourself enough time without overcommitting

Two weeks to a month can be a useful initial planning period for visiting neighbourhoods and viewing flats, but it is not a guarantee that a suitable home or official appointment will be available by then.

Avoid an unnecessarily long non-refundable booking in an unsuitable location. Equally, do not leave so little time that you feel forced to accept a poor permanent home as your checkout date approaches. Understand the price and conditions for extending the stay.

5. Check the booking details

• Read recent reviews for cleanliness, noise, internet and the accuracy of the listing.
• Check the map and the real walking route to public transport.
• Read cancellation, amendment and refund conditions carefully.
• Confirm the total price, included utilities, cleaning fees and any deposit.
• Keep the booking, contract, invoice and payment evidence.

For tourism-purpose home rentals of 100 days or less per contract, check the applicable Ministry of Culture and Tourism permit arrangements. A listing on a large platform does not by itself establish that the property has the required permission. Hotels and other licensed accommodation have their own regulatory framework.

If you will use accommodation documents for an official process, ask the relevant authority about that process's requirements before relying on the booking.

6. Use the temporary stay to make a better long-term choice

The main purpose is a reasonably comfortable base with practical transport and services. It should give you time to inspect neighbourhoods, compare properties and choose a permanent home carefully, rather than rushing into the first available flat.

Official guidance: Ministry of Culture and Tourism notice on tourism-purpose home rentals and permit application information.
