Fenerbahçe continue the season under İsmail Kartal, with prominent options in goal, defence, midfield and attack. After six rounds, they were the league’s highest-scoring side but stood sixth. Turning that attacking output into regular wins is therefore a central task for the next stage of the season.
| Measure | Record |
|---|---|
| Position | Sixth |
| Points | 10 from six matches |
| Results | Three wins, one draw, two defeats |
| Goals scored | 16 |
| Goals conceded | 6 |
| Goal difference | +10 |
The wins came against Konyaspor 4–2, Samsunspor 2–0 and Eyüpspor 8–0. Fenerbahçe drew 0–0 with Gaziantep and lost 1–2 to both Gençlerbirliği and Beşiktaş.
They were three points behind the leaders after six rounds.
Half of Fenerbahçe’s league goals came in the Eyüpspor match alone. Continuing to score and take points against different opponents will provide a more useful measure of progress over the coming rounds.
| Area | Leading names |
|---|---|
| Goalkeepers | Ederson, Mert Günok, Tarık Çetin |
| Defence | Milan Škriniar, Nathan Aké, Nélson Semedo, Mert Müldür, Archie Brown |
| Midfield and creative roles | N’Golo Kanté, Mattéo Guendouzi, İsmail Yüksek, İrfan Can Kahveci, Oğuz Aydın, Bartuğ Elmaz |
| Attack | Vedat Muriqi, Romelu Lukaku, Mason Greenwood, Marco Asensio, Kerem Aktürkoğlu, Dorgeles Nene |
These are selected names from the European squad list. The line-up changes according to fitness, the opposition and the demands of each match.
• Vedat Muriqi: Six league goals made him the team’s leading scorer after six rounds.
• Mason Greenwood: Four league goals took his combined total with Muriqi to ten of Fenerbahçe’s 16.
• Archie Brown: He made an important contribution to the European campaign, scoring against Lyon in the qualifying decider and then equalising against Roma in the league-phase opener.
The squad gives the coaching staff several ways to build attacks. Three aspects help frame those options:
Players such as Asensio and Kahveci offer different passing and chance-creation options. Keeping them close enough to combine with the forwards matters, particularly against opponents who defend deep.
Muriqi and Lukaku provide centre-forward options, with the wide players offering movement around them. The quality of the final pass and the timing of runs into the penalty area will determine how effectively those options work.
Kanté, Guendouzi and İsmail Yüksek give the team several midfield combinations. In tactical terms, balancing support for the attack with covering space will be important in reducing dropped points.
This is an assessment of the squad’s tactical possibilities. The effectiveness of those roles must be judged through match performances.
Fenerbahçe reached the Champions League league phase by overcoming Lyon in the play-offs.
The sides drew 1–1 in Istanbul, before Fenerbahçe won 2–1 away on 26 August through goals from Muriqi and Archie Brown, progressing 3–2 on aggregate.
Lyon against Fenerbahçe in the second leg of the Champions League play-off.
In their league-phase opener on 10 September, Fenerbahçe drew 1–1 with Roma. Bryan Cristante put the Italian side ahead in the 39th minute, and Archie Brown equalised in the 48th.
Fenerbahçe against Roma in Istanbul on the opening European matchday.
All times are in Türkiye and Saudi Arabia.
The schedule was upcoming at the 1 October update date.
| Date | Fixture | Competition and kick-off |
|---|---|---|
| 10 October 2026 | Rizespor v Fenerbahçe | Süper Lig — 19:00 |
| 14 October 2026 | Aston Villa v Fenerbahçe | Champions League — 22:00 |
| 20 October 2026 | Fenerbahçe v Slavia Praha | Champions League — 19:45 |
| 4 November 2026 | Fenerbahçe v Liverpool | Champions League — 20:45 |
The next spell begins with away matches against Rizespor and Aston Villa. Taking points from those games would provide a boost before the visit of Slavia Praha, while managing fitness across domestic and European competitions remains important.
What is the most important change Fenerbahçe need to turn their attacking strength into regular wins: better chance creation, a more settled midfield balance, or a different allocation of attacking roles?
