If a transfer has not arrived, first establish how it was sent and what its status says. A queued instruction, a rejected payment and a completed transfer require different responses.
1. FAST, EFT and havale in practice
• FAST: Eligible Turkish-lira transfers between participating institutions are processed around the clock, including weekends and holidays. Successful payments normally complete within seconds.
• EFT: Conventional interbank processing depends on operating hours and the bank's cut-off arrangements. An instruction entered later may wait for the next available processing period.
• Havale: Transfers within the same bank are often quick, but the bank's controls and service availability still matter.
Editorial update — 8 October 2026: The ordinary FAST system limit became TRY 300,000 per transaction on 26 August 2026. A bank can apply lower limits. A weekend is not, by itself, a reason for a successful FAST payment to wait until Monday; first check whether the bank actually used FAST.
2. Why can a payment be delayed?
Possible reasons include an EFT instruction submitted after the cut-off, a future-dated instruction, a bank check, temporary maintenance or a technical problem. Incorrect recipient details can lead to rejection, return or a payment sent to the wrong destination.
Do not assume that an incorrect IBAN will always result in an automatic return. A valid but unintended account can require urgent action through the bank.
3. Reduce avoidable problems
For an urgent eligible payment, check whether FAST is available. Confirm the recipient's IBAN or registered easy address, the displayed recipient information, amount and currency before approval. Keep the receipt and transaction reference.
4. If the recipient cannot see the money
1. Check the app for the actual status: scheduled, processing, completed, rejected or returned.
2. Confirm that the recipient is checking the correct account and currency.
3. Share the relevant transaction details or receipt securely. A receipt for a pending instruction is not proof that the recipient has been credited.
4. Ask your bank to investigate if the status or delay is unclear, quoting the transaction reference.
Avoid immediately repeating the transfer: the first payment may still complete. If you suspect fraud or a wrong recipient, contact the bank promptly rather than simply waiting.
The useful habit
Check the payment method, status and recipient before deciding what went wrong. Timing explains some delays, but it is not the explanation for every missing payment.
