Sport Climbing in Türkiye 2026: Boulder, Lead, Speed, Competitions and Scoring
One climber finishes at a marked hold, another receives a numbered-hold result, and a third races to the top in seconds. These are different disciplines rather than contradictory ways to judge the same event. This guide explains organised climbing in Türkiye and its results using selected sources reviewed on 28 October 2026, separating international rules from a local event’s regulations.

Three disciplines on artificial structures
Competitive climbing distinguishes Boulder, Lead and Speed. The competitions discussed use artificial structures with problems set by specialists, rather than mountain outings or natural-rock trips. In Türkiye, follow TDF’s Spor Tırmanış discipline; the word Tırmanma in car hillclimb racing should not be confused with climbing walls.
Identify discipline, category and round before comparing athletes. A person can enter several disciplines, but a boulder victory does not establish a speed title. Routes can differ between categories and rounds where they are reset; two photographs of different holds do not establish the same sporting test.
| Discipline | What to follow | Result key |
|---|---|---|
| Boulder | Solve short problems within the attempt/time format | Tops, zones, attempts and resulting points |
| Lead | Highest valid progress on a route | Top or highest scoring hold, with + where earned |
| Speed | Complete a standardised timed route | Valid time and the round’s race outcome |
Boulder: do not add 25 and 10 for one problem
Recognise the Top, a successful finish, and any marked Zone hold. Touching a finish is not always sufficient: international rules require clear control in a stable position according to the finish design. Judges determine the top, zone and attempts, rather than the viewer’s impression of a clip.
Under 2026 World Climbing international event regulations, a top is worth 25 points minus 0.1 for each preceding unsuccessful attempt. A zone is worth 10 minus 0.1 for each attempt before it was awarded. The problem receives the greater earned value, with a minimum of zero; problem scores are then added. These examples explain that format without imposing it on a local event with different published arrangements.
| Hypothetical single problem | Score | Calculation |
|---|---|---|
| Top on first attempt | 25.0 | No previous unsuccessful attempts |
| Top on third attempt after two failures | 24.8 | 25 minus 0.2 |
| Zone on second attempt, no top | 9.9 | 10 minus 0.1 |
| No awarded zone or top | 0.0 | No negative result |
Reaching a zone before a top does not add 10 to 25. The top is not an additional bonus above the zone. Older summaries ranking only tops and zones can describe another edition. Read the event’s scoring version, and wait for the round total rather than judging the whole competition from one problem.
Lead: a hold number and the + sign
Lead involves a scored attempt on a route while secured by rope. A successful finish is recorded as Top. Otherwise, the last scoring hold with the required control determines the result. A + marks an earned advancing movement from that hold; it is not a viewer-estimated half-hold or decimal.
For example, 40+ is better than 40 on that route, but is not a comparison between different routes. Check whether a final’s regulations use count-back to the preceding round before climbing time when resolving a tie. Extra seconds do not simply deduct hold points: lead is different from speed.
The event regulations set the attempt time; international rules cap it at six minutes. They also govern technical incidents and permitted restarts. Performance and belaying instruction belong with coaches and officials; this explanation helps interpret results rather than teaching rope systems or climbing technique.
Speed: qualifying time is not the title
Speed uses standardised parallel routes. The international explanation describes a 15-metre wall with identical routes for men and women. A valid attempt finishes by striking the finishing pad by hand. In elimination rounds, follow the race winner rather than only a personal best or qualifying position.
The fastest qualifier can lose a later race. A fall or false start is a result status, not a zero-second time to rank arithmetically. Separate records from the final sporting classification; training times do not become official records simply because a video is published.
Türkiye: the announced November 2026 Ankara event
TDF announced Turkish championships in Boulder, Lider and Speed for 14–21 November 2026 at Mehmet Akif Ersoy in Yenimahalle, Ankara. This is the published allocation of days. The programme can change and does not establish completed results or spectator admission.
| Announced dates | Büyükler/Gençler/Genç A | Genç B/Yıldızlar |
|---|---|---|
| 14–15 November 2026 | Lead | Boulder |
| 17–18 November 2026 | Boulder | Lead |
| 20–21 November 2026 | Speed | Speed |
The notice explicitly uses 2027 age categories despite the event taking place in 2026. Do not recalculate categories from its title year. It gives a 30 October 2026 application deadline at 07:00 through clubs in DYS, with separate entries for each competition and discipline. Check the latest notice with the club; an accommodation request does not guarantee availability.
Separate championships, cups and camp invitations
Domestic coverage includes championships, cups, age categories, results and camps. Türkiye Şampiyonası is not Türkiye Kupası, and a podium result alone does not establish an international national-team roster. Retain discipline, category, round and competition name when recording a result.
TDF’s 2026 criteria distinguish candidate, development and performance camps. Development assessment combines competition and camp performance, with further assessment, resources and technical decisions addressed later. A camp invitation is therefore not automatic Olympic qualification or guaranteed entry on every international trip. Do not transfer one category’s threshold to every age group.
For participation, begin with a suitable club and coach, then the event’s discipline/category documents. A recreational gym ticket or a completed training problem does not establish national acceptance. If a registration display conflicts with the published category table, clarify it through the club and federation rather than entering a presumed category.
Useful viewing and an organised visit
Open the start list alongside the result: match athlete, nation or club, category, problem, round and result status. DNS means did not start, rather than failure to solve a problem. Separate event totals from season-ranking points. Provisional results can change after review or appeal; keep the final version’s date.
Before attending, confirm the discipline session, arena, spectator admission, ticket, accessibility and seating. The competitors’ isolation opening time need not be the public door time. No universal verified tariff applies here; ask what admission includes and separate viewing costs from coaching and equipment.
For streams, check the authorised broadcaster and viewing territory. An international YouTube channel does not guarantee every round is available in Türkiye. A complete round explains the differences better than a single finishing clip; compare it with the official result. Competition and isolation areas remain separate from public viewing spaces.
Frequently asked questions
Is sport climbing a mountain ascent?
These competitions use artificial walls and sporting formats, distinct from summit or natural-rock outings.
Does a Top score 25+10 points?
The international format described takes the higher earned value; top and zone are not added.
Is + in lead a fraction of a second?
It marks an earned advancing movement from a hold, not time.
Does the fastest qualifier always win speed?
The final result depends on subsequent valid races and rounds.
Does a national-team camp guarantee international entry?
Invitations and further assessments have conditions; they are not automatic qualification or a guaranteed trip.
