This 2025 guide explains how to prepare an application to renew a short-term residence permit for tourism in Türkiye: when to begin, the documents to check and common application problems.

English editorial clarification — checked on 8 October 2026: Renewal is not automatic. Apply within the 60 days before your permit expires and before the expiry date. Follow the current instructions on your e-Residence application for documents and attendance; do not assume that every document must be uploaded as a PDF. See the official application timing and tourism permit conditions.

At a glance

  • Begin preparing early, then apply within the permitted renewal window.
  • Check that the required health cover and accommodation evidence support the requested period.
  • Keep clear PDF copies for your records and take or submit the complete document file as instructed.

Who is this guide for?

  • Holders of a valid tourist residence permit preparing to renew it; the original guide was written for 2025.
  • Applicants reviewing an earlier refusal before considering another application. A refusal is subject to separate reapplication and lawful-stay rules; it is not an ordinary renewal.

When should I begin?

- Monitor your expiry date and prepare well in advance. Submit the renewal within the 60-day window before expiry, and always before the permit expires.
- Local document or appointment arrangements may differ. Follow the current instructions from the directorate handling your application without treating the statutory window as optional.

Document checklist

  • A valid passport and the required copies, including identity and entry information. Check that its validity supports the requested permit period.
  • Your current residence permit card and the required copy.
  • Health cover meeting the requirements for the requested period, where required.
  • The required tenancy/accommodation evidence and current address registration documents, as applicable.
  • Recent biometric photographs meeting the official specifications.
  • Printed fee receipts for the application file.
Use the checklist produced for your application; this general list does not replace it.

Online application steps

  1. Open the official e-Residence portal and choose the extension application for your short-term permit and tourism purpose.
  2. Check and update your details so that names and dates match the passport exactly.
  3. Provide the information and any files the current system requests. Keep clearly named copies, for example Name_Type_Date.pdf, for your own records.
  4. Complete the application, print the form and fee receipts, and follow the instructions for any appointment or document submission.
  5. Attend or submit the required file as directed, organised according to the official checklist.

Dates and supporting evidence

- Health insurance: Where required, the accepted cover must support the period you request.
- Accommodation/address: Provide valid accommodation evidence and current registration documents where required.
- Resolve gaps or inconsistencies before submitting; the dates need to support the application, not necessarily be identical on every document.

Common problems and how to avoid them

  • Unclear or crooked scans ⇒ use legible copies; 300 dpi is a practical scanning suggestion, not a legal requirement.
  • Gaps or conflicting dates ⇒ check the requested period against your accommodation and insurance evidence.
  • Disorganised files ⇒ use consistent filenames to make your own preparation easier. Filename style is not itself a verified legal refusal ground.
  • Missing supporting evidence, such as address documents ⇒ obtain it in advance.
  • Leaving the application until the final days ⇒ prepare early enough to correct problems before expiry.
Approval also depends on the permit conditions and purpose of stay, including the tourism information requested by the authority.

Frequently asked questions

Must I attend in person?
Follow the instructions issued for your application. Attend if required; do not rely on an old guide's description of every extension as an appointment.

What if I have moved?
For a move within the same province during a valid residence permit, notify the migration and civil registration directorates within 20 working days and provide the required evidence. If you move your residence to another province, apply for a new residence permit in that province within 20 working days. See the official address-change guidance.

Can I apply for a different permit instead?
A residence permit transfer may be possible if you meet the new category's conditions. Employment requires the relevant work permit process; it is not just a tourism renewal under a different label.
