🔁 A recurring transfer is useful for a clearly defined repeated payment, such as fixed rent or family support. It organises payments while leaving you responsible for checking the balance, amount and recipient.

1️⃣ What is now supported?

ÖHVPS 2.0.0, introduced on 17 March 2026, supports recurring payment initiation through open banking. Banks may also offer standing instructions within their own apps. A national capability does not determine every bank’s available frequencies or end-date options.

If you create an instruction in an app connected to another bank, establish who manages the instruction and which bank debits the money. Keep the reference needed by customer support.

2️⃣ Choose the right instruction

NeedService to considerWhat to watch
Fixed monthly rentA fixed recurring transferChanges to rent or payee
One payment next weekA one-off future-dated instructionAvoid selecting recurrence accidentally
A bill with a changing amountSupported automatic bill paymentSubscriber details, limits and amount due
A subscription charged to a cardA merchant payment authoritySubscription and authority cancellation terms

3️⃣ Build a clear schedule

🗓️ Specify the debit account, payee name and IBAN, amount, first execution date and supported frequency. Set an end date if the app offers one. Use a meaningful description, such as apartment rent, that will make sense on a statement.

Choose a date consistent with your income and the payment deadline, and retain a separate reminder before it. The available frequency should match the agreement with the recipient.

4️⃣ A short monthly review

5️⃣ Amend or cancel without duplicates

🔐 Before making changes, check whether an approaching payment has passed an amendment deadline. If new instructions are required, resolve the old ones first so that two transfers do not pay the same obligation.

Disconnecting an open-banking account does not prove that a recurring instruction has been cancelled. Find the instruction itself, verify its final status and keep the cancellation reference. Cancelling a transfer also does not cancel the underlying rental contract or debt.

6️⃣ When one payment fails

🧾 Read the failure reason and establish whether the bank will retry or a new action is needed. Notify the payee where the deadline matters, then use an alternative only after ruling out pending processing. Do not assume later payments are automatically cancelled because one payment failed.

Review family-support schedules when travel, study or household needs change. Automated payment saves time, but it still needs clear records and statement review.
