Türkiye’s participation banking sector, which provides Islamic finance, reported strong asset growth during 2025 despite domestic and global challenges. This report draws on Anadolu Agency’s interview with Mehmet Ali Akben, chair of the Participation Banks Association of Türkiye (TKBB), on 26 November 2025.

1️⃣ Asset growth

Akben said the sector’s assets had grown by 45% during the year to the time of his statement. This does not represent a measurement through the end of November or a final full-year result.
He expected the sector’s prospects to improve as inflation eased and interest rates gradually declined. These were expectations expressed at the interview date, not confirmed subsequent outcomes.

2️⃣ The role of participation banks

Their activities include financing small and medium-sized enterprises, providing property and commercial finance in accordance with Islamic finance principles, and supporting foreign trade and exports. Akben highlighted the importance of SME finance for investment, production and employment.

3️⃣ The outlook for 2026

The association’s chair considered participation banks’ market share below their potential and called for a broader customer base. He expected further asset growth as inflation and financing conditions improved.
This article records expectations expressed on 26 November 2025; it does not present anticipated growth in 2026 as an achieved result.
