Online shopping has become an established part of life in Türkiye. Smartphones, digital payments and delivery networks make it convenient for citizens, residents and visitors to buy a wide range of goods. The practical experience still depends on the seller, delivery address and product.

1️⃣ Major shopping platforms 🛍️

  • Trendyol: A major marketplace with many independent sellers and categories ranging from clothing and electronics to food products.
  • Hepsiburada: An established marketplace offering electronics, household appliances and everyday goods.
  • Amazon Türkiye: Amazon’s local shopping service, with domestic fulfilment arrangements and Prime delivery benefits for eligible items and addresses. Some orders are dispatched by independent sellers.
  • Other services include:
    • ÇiçekSepeti for flowers and gifts.
    • Getir and Yemeksepeti for food or grocery delivery, depending on the service and location.
    • Small businesses and individuals selling or promoting goods through Instagram and TikTok. A social-media storefront should not be assumed to have the same payment protections or processes as an established marketplace.

2️⃣ Shopping habits and payment methods 📲

  • Clothing, household goods and electronics can be ordered online instead of requiring a shop visit for every purchase.
  • Coupons and daily promotions encourage shoppers to compare discounts before buying. Compare the final price, including delivery, rather than the advertised saving alone.
  • Available payment methods may include:
    • Credit and debit cards.
    • Payment on delivery at sellers that offer it.
    • Card instalments on eligible purchases, subject to the card, product category, lender and applicable limits.
  • Shopping platforms advertise widely through television programmes, series and social media. Advertising and popularity do not replace checking the actual seller and terms.

3️⃣ Delivery within Türkiye 🚚

  • Parcel networks include Yurtiçi Kargo, Aras Kargo, PTT Kargo and the business formerly branded MNG Kargo, which began operating as DHL eCommerce on 22 May 2025. Coverage and delivery schedules vary by address.
  • Some services offer collection points or branch collection for customers who cannot wait at home. Check the exact collection location and deadline.
  • Same-day delivery may be available for eligible orders placed before a specified cut-off in İstanbul and other large cities. It is not available for every seller, item or postcode.
  • Allow additional time for:
    • Mountainous areas and remote villages.
    • Busy periods before public holidays and the start of the school year.

4️⃣ Orders dispatched from abroad: customs and taxes ✈️

  • Purchases sent from Europe, the United States, China or elsewhere abroad are subject to Turkish import rules:
    • Import duties, VAT or other applicable taxes and clearance charges may be payable. Treatment depends on the goods, value and procedure.
    • Product restrictions matter as well as fees. For example, an ordinary overseas mobile-phone purchase cannot be imported by post or express courier merely by paying tax. The ministry describes a separate, narrow procedure for returning an already registered phone left abroad by a traveller.
  • Goods already stocked and dispatched within Türkiye usually avoid the recipient having to arrange a personal import. A listing on a Turkish platform can still be dispatched from abroad, so check the dispatch country and who handles customs.
  • Read the delivery, import-charge and restricted-product information before paying, particularly for overseas orders. Do not assume that a parcel will be admitted simply because a website accepts the order.

5️⃣ Practical tips for residents and visitors 💡

  • Starting with one or two established platforms, such as Trendyol or Hepsiburada, can make it easier to understand ordering and returns. Still check the identity, contact details and record of the individual seller.
  • Read product descriptions and customer reviews carefully, particularly for electronics and clothing. Reviews are useful clues rather than a guarantee of quality or authenticity.
  • For qualifying consumer distance purchases, the general right of withdrawal is 14 days, without giving a reason or paying a penalty. For goods, the period generally starts on delivery; statutory exceptions apply, for example to certain personalised, perishable or unsealed hygiene products. A shop’s return policy cannot remove rights provided by law. Follow the required withdrawal and return process and retain the confirmation.
  • Visitors should enter the hotel or apartment address accurately and arrange receipt in advance. Confirm that reception or another person can accept the parcel during the expected delivery period.

E-commerce is a substantial part of Türkiye’s retail economy. Understanding platforms, delivery and the applicable consumer rules makes it easier to shop and receive orders with fewer surprises.
