Pharmacies and On-Duty Pharmacies in Türkiye 2026: Opening Hours and Finding a Nöbetçi Eczane

A pharmacy in Türkiye is an Eczane. A pharmacy assigned to operate outside normal opening hours is a Nöbetçi Eczane, or on-duty pharmacy.

Knowing how to find one is particularly useful at night, at weekends and on public holidays. Ordinary opening hours vary by province, district and the locally approved timetable.

1️⃣ What is an on-duty pharmacy?

It is a pharmacy included in an official rota to serve an area after ordinary pharmacies close. Depending on the city and district, its duty may last through the night or end at a specified time.

Use the current official list, rather than an old notice or an unverified map result. Call before setting off, especially if the pharmacy is some distance away.

2️⃣ How to find an on-duty pharmacy officially

  1. Open the Ministry of Health’s official on-duty pharmacy search on e-Government.
  2. Select the province, İl.
  3. Select the district, İlçe.
  4. Choose today’s duty pharmacies, Bugün, or tomorrow’s, Yarın.
  5. Note the pharmacy’s name, address and telephone number.
  6. Call to confirm it is open and ask where to enter. Night service may be provided through a dedicated window or after ringing a bell.
The provincial health directorate or local chamber of pharmacists may also publish the rota. The e-Government search provides a useful official starting point.

Organising documents and an online application

3️⃣ What to take

  • Your passport or residence card and foreign identity number, if you have one.
  • Your electronic prescription code, e-Reçete Kodu, or paper prescription.
  • A medical report if the medicine requires one or is part of long-term treatment.
  • The previous medicine’s packaging or a clear photograph.
  • The active ingredient, Etken Madde, rather than only the brand name.
  • A list of allergies and other medicines you take.
Similar brand names in different countries can conceal differences in strength, dose or formulation. Do not choose a medicine solely because its name or packaging looks familiar.

4️⃣ Prescriptions issued outside Türkiye

Bring the prescription and medical report, preferably in Turkish or English. They help the pharmacist or doctor understand your treatment, but do not guarantee immediate dispensing of every medicine.

Some medicines require a prescription accepted under the Turkish system, particularly antibiotics and controlled medicines. The pharmacist may direct you to a doctor licensed in Türkiye for a suitable prescription.

5️⃣ Buying and paying for medicine

Without SGK entitlement or an insurance arrangement accepted by the pharmacy, you will generally pay the full price.

When using SGK, the pharmacy may need your identity number, electronic prescription code and any required medical report. You may still have to pay a patient contribution or a medicine price difference.

Ask for an itemised receipt and keep it, particularly if you intend to claim reimbursement from a private insurer.

Discussing care during a medical consultation

6️⃣ Before leaving the pharmacy

  • Match the medicine to the prescription.
  • Check its strength, such as 250 mg or 500 mg.
  • Check the formulation: tablets, capsules, liquid, drops or injections.
  • Ask how to take it and for how long.
  • Ask whether it needs refrigeration or other temperature precautions.
  • Check the expiry date and intact packaging.
  • Mention pregnancy, breastfeeding, allergies and chronic conditions.
  • Do not take someone else’s medicine, even if your symptoms seem similar.

7️⃣ Useful Turkish phrases

  • Bugün nöbetçi eczane nerede? — Where is today’s on-duty pharmacy?
  • Bu ilaç reçeteli mi? — Does this medicine require a prescription?
  • Bu ilacın eşdeğeri var mı? — Is there an equivalent medicine?
  • Bu ilaç nasıl kullanılmalı? — How should this medicine be used?
  • Bu ilaç buzdolabında saklanmalı mı? — Does it need to be kept in a refrigerator?
  • Fiyat farkı var mı? — Is there a price difference to pay?

8️⃣ When a pharmacy is not enough

A pharmacist can dispense medicines and explain their use, but cannot replace a medical assessment. For breathing difficulty, severe chest pain, loss of consciousness, heavy bleeding or a severe allergic reaction, call 112 immediately or seek emergency care.
