Some announcements are general promises. A project that can be checked should have an identifiable budget, timetable, procurement or delivery arrangements, and a clear location.
- A specific project name and location
- A tender, contract or implementation announcement
- Work beginning on site, such as excavation, equipment arriving or traffic diversions
- Progress updates from the municipality
- General statements without locations or dates
- The same promises repeated each year
- No visible implementation after months
These are reasons to investigate the project's stage, rather than proof by themselves that an announcement is merely publicity.
- Check the municipality's official website and tender announcements.
- Watch for traffic diversions, which may indicate work beginning; confirm which project they concern.
- Ask neighbourhood residents whether an implementation team has actually arrived.
- A road or metro project may improve an area's appeal and affect property values, but construction can also cause prolonged disruption, potentially for two years or more depending on the project.
- A park or lighting project may improve everyday quality of life once it is completed and operating.
Do not judge by headlines alone. Look for site progress supported by project documents and budget information, while distinguishing planning, procurement, construction and completion.
