📌 Why does this news matter?
January’s inflation figures help inform discussions about rent, supermarket prices, service charges and pay in some sectors. They do not determine every price or contractual increase automatically.

🧾 What did TÜİK report?
- The consumer price index, TÜFE, rose month on month in January 2026.
- Annual inflation also remained high. For residents, the practical question is how changing prices affect contracts and everyday spending.

🔎 What can this mean in practice?
1) Rent
- Many landlords refer to inflation or comparable market rents when proposing an increase. A high headline figure may strengthen their negotiating position, but the applicable contract and legal renewal rules still govern the increase.
- Practical advice: document the condition of the flat and comparable neighbourhood rents before renewal, and keep negotiations in writing.

2) Essential goods
- Monthly increases in food, transport and some services can be particularly noticeable in household budgets.
- Monitor the cost of a weekly shopping basket rather than relying on one product’s price.

3) Pay
- In the private sector, an increase is not automatic, although inflation can be raised in pay discussions.
- Prepare a request supported by figures: monthly expenses before and after the changes, together with higher bills.

✅ A practical checklist for the February 2026 context
- Record the prices of 10 products you regularly buy each week and compare the results monthly.
- Set a revised spending limit for February, even if it is temporary.
- If your rent is due for renewal, collect at least three examples of comparable flats in the same neighbourhood.

Where to follow the figures
- TÜİK’s official January 2026 CPI bulletin, released on 3 February 2026.
