A railway project still under construction
The Ankara–İzmir high-speed railway is intended to improve connections between the capital and the Aegean. Construction remains in progress; it is not an operating end-to-end high-speed service that can be booked in 2026. Its implications for Afyonkarahisar, Uşak and Manisa are prospective opportunities, dependent on completing construction, testing and service arrangements.
In its statement of 3 April 2026, the Ministry of Transport uses 505 kilometres for the new works connecting beyond the existing network near Polatlı, and 624 kilometres for the intended complete Ankara–İzmir journey. The 508-kilometre figure in some older project descriptions reflects an earlier stated scope. None of these lengths establishes that a passenger service is operating.
The intended Ankara–İzmir journey time is three hours and thirty minutes once the project is complete, rather than a timetable available today. In its 2026 budget presentation, the ministry targeted the Polatlı–Afyon section for 2027 and the entire line for 2028. These are implementation targets that may change, rather than guaranteed opening dates.

Understanding the figures and targets
| Item | Announced figure or target | Meaning for travellers |
|---|---|---|
| New works / complete journey | 505 / 624 km in the April 2026 statement | Two different measures of the project scope |
| Ankara–İzmir journey | Target: 3 hours 30 minutes | Use only after an operating service and timetable are announced |
| Polatlı–Afyon section | Completion targeted for 2027 | Does not establish that tickets are available now |
| Entire line | Completion targeted for 2028 | Follow testing, service-launch and station announcements |

Afyonkarahisar: thermal tourism and local connections
A future fast connection could make Afyon's thermal resorts easier to reach from Ankara and connecting cities. Increased hotel occupancy or a doubling of health tourism caused by this line are not established results for 2026.
A station's usefulness depends on its location and onward access to a hotel, home or workplace. Confirm any connecting bus or hotel shuttle with its operator; a planned station does not establish that a dedicated smart-bus fleet serves resorts. Medical-tourism and property schemes nearby need separate checks on permissions and construction. Proximity to a transport project does not guarantee higher property values.

4.
Uşak: industry and business visits
Uşak has an industrial base in textiles, leather and recycling. Better future passenger connections could facilitate factory visits and meetings. Same-day return journeys will depend on the actual operating timetable and station location.
Distinguish fast passenger travel from freight and connections between industrial zones and İzmir's ports. Freight requires its own infrastructure and operating arrangements; a passenger project alone does not establish that direct freight trains to ships are running. Proposed warehousing and distribution facilities near stations likewise need separate investment and permissions.
5.
Manisa: employment and links with İzmir
Better connections between Manisa and İzmir could support business and access to services. The practicality of using a future service for daily commuting will depend on fares, station locations, frequency and the complete home-to-work journey.
Moving suitable trips from road to rail may reduce some emissions once a useful service is operating and being used. It does not establish that this line has already removed thousands of road journeys or reduced emissions in 2026. Assess housing and urban-renewal schemes individually rather than attributing growth to a service that has yet to begin.

What to verify before travelling or deciding
| Your decision | What to verify | Practical approach |
|---|---|---|
| An intercity journey | A timetable and booking released by the operator | Choose a service operating on your travel date |
| A factory or resort visit | The station served and onward connection | Calculate door-to-door time and cost |
| Housing near a station | Station location, planning and construction status | Assess the property and current services independently |
| Freight or warehousing | Freight access, permissions and actual operations | Do not infer readiness from a passenger-rail announcement |
Start with the services actually available on your date, then follow construction, testing and the release of bookings. This keeps the project useful for understanding the Aegean's future without treating its targets as results already achieved.
