Shipping is central to e-commerce: even an excellent product at a good price can leave customers disappointed if delivery is poor or late. This article covers domestic and international shipping from Türkiye, provider types and how merchants and buyers can choose a suitable option.
Parcels carrying delivery labels; an illustrative photo, not a specific shipment or grocery service.
Domestic shipping delivers orders between cities and neighborhoods, from stores to customers or between warehouses and branches.
- PTT Kargo, the Turkish postal service
- Yurtiçi Kargo
- Aras Kargo
- DHL eCommerce (formerly MNG Kargo)
- Sürat Kargo
- UPS / DHL, with domestic and international services depending on the specific operation and product
Each company has:
- Different prices by weight and distance.
- Delivery speeds varying by city.
- Service quality reflected in user experiences and ratings.
- Economy: lower-priced and slower.
- Express: more expensive, with an illustrative 24–48-hour timeframe in large cities where offered.
- Pickup points: some companies and stores allow collection from branches or designated points.
- Within one city: often 1 to 3 business days.
- Between cities: 2 to 5 business days, depending on distance and order volume.
Confirm the actual service and destination estimate; these ranges are not delivery guarantees.
Good packaging helps merchants avoid:
- Damage and breakage complaints.
- Returns caused by poor packaging.
- Negative marketplace reviews.
- Use boxes sized to the product without unnecessary empty space.
- Fill gaps with paper, foam or bubble wrap.
- Add protection for glass and sensitive products.
- Use a clear label showing:
- Customer name,
- Mobile number,
- Detailed address,
- Order number.
Many merchants in Türkiye target customers in Arab countries and Europe through international shipping.
- DHL
- UPS
- FedEx
- Aramex
- Intermediaries consolidating parcels for shipment to Arab countries.
- Actual weight in kg.
- Volumetric weight, calculated from box volume using the service's specified factor.
- Destination country and city.
- Express or Economy service.
- Gulf countries: often 3–7 business days, depending on service.
- Other countries: one or two weeks, sometimes longer.
Confirm destination, customs and service conditions rather than treating these examples as current commitments.
For international shipping, merchants and buyers should understand:
- Destination customs charges may depend on:
- Product type,
- Invoice-declared value,
- Receiving-country customs rules.
- In some arrangements:
- Customers pay charges on arrival.
- Or charges are included in the price where the required delivery arrangement, such as DDP, has been agreed in advance.
- Explain customs charges before purchase.
- State a truthful product value on invoices to avoid legal problems.
Some domestic carriers offer:
- Kapıda Ödeme, payment on delivery, in cash or by card using the courier's terminal.
Advantages:
- Encourages hesitant customers to buy.
- Helps customers without bank cards.
Disadvantages:
- Usually adds a payment-collection fee.
- Creates a greater risk of refusal at the door.
Accurate addresses are important for prompt delivery in Türkiye.
- Neighborhood and street.
- Building and apartment number where applicable.
- Compound name or nearby landmark, such as a mosque, hospital or university.
- Postcode, Posta Kodu, where available.
- A correct phone number that will be answered.
- Many couriers rely on telephone contact as well as maps.
- Merchants should ask customers for:
- A clear nearby landmark.
- Their ability to answer during delivery hours.
Almost all carriers provide:
- A tracking number.
- A website or app where it can be entered to check shipment progress.
- Reassure customers with automatic or manual status updates.
- Identify unusual delays and contact the carrier early.
1) You do not have to use only one carrier
- You can contract with several:
- One for local-city deliveries.
- Another for intercity or international shipping.
2) Negotiate prices
- With substantial monthly volume:
- Request contract rates.
- You may obtain a per-kilogram or per-shipment discount.
3) Explain the shipping policy on your website
- A dedicated page should cover:
- Expected delivery times.
- Approximate shipping prices.
- Handling of delayed shipments.
- Responsibility for return costs following refused delivery.
4) Monitor customers' carrier feedback
- Even with excellent products, complaints may concern:
- Courier conduct,
- Unexplained delays,
- Damaged packaging.
- Repeated problems may require:
- A different carrier,
- Or another service from the same company.
Shipping within and outside Türkiye is a core part of customer experience, beyond parcel transport.
A suitable carrier, good packaging and clear policies:
- Reduce problems and losses,
- Increase customer confidence,
- Help even a new, small store deliver a professional service.
| Comparison item | What to request in writing |
|---|---|
| Price | Chargeable weight and additional fees |
| Timeline | Preparation, transit, clearance and destination |
| Responsibility | Delivery evidence and loss-claim deadlines |
| Return | Cost, route and who initiates it |
Request a quotation for the same actual and volumetric weight, destination and postcode, including fuel, remote-area, collection and return charges. Separate store preparation from transit and customs clearance. Specify import costs and responsibilities in the agreement; a DDP or DAP label does not replace checking the service and legal obligations.
